Iran and Saudi Arabia will be at war soon. The Saudi’s will pay a mercenary air strike team to bomb the nuke facilities.
On the last Sandbox we were discussing the proper punishment for drug dealers who sell to children. I support summary execution by firing squad and Paul Emery wants to throw them a party. Kind of a great divide I’d say.LikeLike

One must never confuse an Arms Treaty with peace nor friendship. The nuke plan with Iran, like so many bright ideas coming down the pike lately, looked and sounded so good both in rhetoric and in theory. Bagdad soon to be the capital of the Persian Empire? Looking that way. Anybody up for a game of 52 Card Pickup?

MK 19:40 “lack of class”
I touch base with this blog because it gets thoughtful opinion from some extremely articulate and insightful people. Frequently I don’t concur with the expressed opinions, but I am open to learning new perspectives and HAVE, on occasion, had my opinions changed by these intercourses. The price for visiting here is wading through the spew that comes from two of the dumbest people I’ve ever met. Todd and Walt are both too ignorant and/or stupid (or drunk) to even know what questions to ask, much less understand the answers. Their retorts usually bear little resemblance to the conversation at hand – but they are apparently blissfuly unaware. I swear that sometimes they think we are laughing with them rather than at them.LikeLike

Well golly Joe and Mike, you see I have to respect someone before I take their advice. So far a no go with you too. You always go personal and your sense of humor is nowhere to be found. As usual, you only complain about those on the right, never giving the same compliments to the left. So, please, regardless, I do enjoy your faux psychoanalysis and it really doesn’t work.
BTW, tell the readers all about yourselves, have you ever been involved in anything that helps others? Probably not.LikeLike

“As usual, you only complain about those on the right, never giving the same compliments to the left”
I take great pleasure in pricking the pompous left wing hides of the ilk of Pugslie Pelline and Rennet Sebum. It’s a community service, if you haven’t noticed. I am an equal opportunity offender when it comes to barbing the fringe on either end of the spectrum. Don’t feel so special.
Now, back to Yemen. When are we going to inextricably stick our dark fingers into that morass? Who are we going to give (at taxpayer expense) arms? When can we expect the first Americans to be killed with said arms? How much is this worth to Cheney in Halliburton shares?LikeLike

Joe Smith – The Saudis pay cash for their arms and are putting them to good use as we speak. Having the Egyptians and their Arab partners breaking the back of the new persian empire now instead of later when they have a bomb is a good thing. 0 may have unintentionally done something extraordinary by letting iran run amok and that is to have Israel and the Saudis cooperating on military maters against Iran. London news reports yesterday that just before the strikes on Yemen there was an odd air defense exercise in eastern Saudi Arabia. In this exercise they stood down all military aircraft and shut down a corridor of radar coverage. Then after awhile they surged their fighters in a massive high cover air sweep. It has been observed that would be exactly what would be needed to let the Israeli Air Force strike package pass over the edge of Saudi air space and the shut the door to pursuing Iranian aircraft after the Israeli AF egresses Saudi air space on the way home. The Israelis learned to listen to what their enemies say, a lesson hard learned when everyone ignored hitlers rants and 10’s of millions paid the price. Iran says death to America and wipe Israel off the map in just the last few days, take them at their words and act accordingly. Walk away from the nuke talks and double down on sanctions. The world needs nothing the Iranians have thanks to fracking in the US the world is awash in oil. Hey weren’t we supposed to run out of oil in the 90’s, right those guys moved on to global warming that was going to ruin the world by the turn of the century. Guess they got(Al) Gored.

“How much is this worth to Cheney in Halliburton shares?”
Good heavens what a tired old canard. The underlying idea is of course, that Cheney single handedly started a war so that he could make billions and billions of dollars blowing up brown people and building bases (or at least get as rich as Bill Clinton, a thing he has fallen short on..alas).
A quick homework assignment.
Look up Halliburton’s stock price starting in 2001 until the present. Lay the stock price for Schlumberger (a pretty darned pure-play oil service company) over it for the same time period. Marvel at how the charts are practically the same and probably represent some truth about the oil market. Consider the fact that people will gobble up practically any old political meme. Then have a nice glass of cabernet.LikeLike

When our 20 year old nephew returned from Iraq we threw a party for him and even bought a keg of (gasp) Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Yes, we provided gallons of a drug to someone under age. I suppose Todd would have my wife and I executed for such an heinous, unpatriotic, and illegal act.

Todd — Would you pull the trigger yourself Todd or would you let someone else who was “just following orders” do it for you? What if the law allowed the incarceration and death by gas chamber for, oh I don’t know, what about Jews? Would you gas 5 million of them because it was “legal”? Legal and moral are not the same thing or do your political beliefs blind you to such things as happened in Germany?

Paul Emery 02Apr15 at 08:19 PM
In an article posted Saturday, March 28, 2015 on his blog he lists 10 changes he would make to fix what ails America. He than adds, “In the next round I like death by firing squad to drug dealers selling to children.”
The answer to your question is clear enough to me, Paul, but Todd seems unwilling to confirm his ridiculous stance.LikeLike
-
JoeK, no I think I would have the executioner do the job.
Regarding the Jews in your comments. What does your desire to murder them have to do with selling drugs to kids? You are a sicko.
Kesti, what is ridiculous about executing drug dealers selling their poison to kids?LikeLike
-
Todd Juvinall 02Apr15 09:45 AM
I oppose the death penalty. In addition to not wanting the state to kill in my name, I believe that life in prison is a more severe penalty than death.
I also believe that the penalty you propose is incommensurate with the crime to a degree worthy of being called rediculous.LikeLike
-
so Todd, if it is not ridiculous to execute a pot dealer for poisoning kids, what about polluters who poison all of us, should they be executed also. If so you might want to start with the CEO of Monsanto. After all their subsidiary poisoned thousands of people in Bopal, India.
My earlier reference to German atrocities is called an analogy, Todd. That means using something as a comparison to explain or clarify something else. In this case it was to point out that legal doesn’t always mean morally correct which you obviously don’t have the capacity to understand.LikeLike

Kesti, Wow! So, My wanting the death penalty is “rediculous” (your spelling) for drug dealers selling poison to our kids because you simply oppose the death penalty. Please review your statement as it appears you are the purveyor of “rediculous”.
JoeK, your analogy is ridiculous. It is not very bright of you to use NAZI’s and the murder of Jews with the death penalty for drug dealers selling to kids. What is your objection to the death penalty? Or are you and Kesti simply opposed to the death penalty. I can respect that but when you go to the NAZI’s you show us what a loon you are.
Rather than debate the position I have taken you seem to want to make some moral equivalency to a CEO or whatever. You are like every liberal when you are unable to debate a point. You change the subject.LikeLike

Did you miss my point concerning incommensurate penalty, Todd, or have you chosen to ignore it?
Please accept my sincere apology for my spelling error.
The plural of “NAZI” is “NAZIs”, without an apostrophe.LikeLike
-
Kesti, I accept your apology. As far as not proportionate regarding crime and punishment. It is in the eye of the beholder.
Paul Emery, yes if the law and due process are followed then death by firing squad is appropriate for selling drugs to our kids. I can say it as many times as you like.LikeLike
-
Todd Juvinall 02Apr15 11:19 AM
Yes, Todd, whether the crime and punishment are commensurate is a matter of opinion. My opinion is that capital punishment for the crime of selling drugs to minors is a ridiculous idea. The matter of due process is irrelevant because this discussion concerns your opinion concerning appropriate punishment rather than whether that punishment would be legally administered.LikeLike

Following up on DonB’s 1241pm, the debate becomes rather shallow when someone has to equate death due to 1) purposive action, 2) accident, and 3) surreptitious criminal act by a third party. Kinda plumbs the depths of intellect, doesn’t it?

That does explain the adverts for huge butane gas refill cans sold by the case in a growers magazine I picked up recently… refilling cigarette lighters didn’t pass the laugh test. Hadn’t heard of this new extractive… something to look forward to in my stoner second childhood golden years, I suppose.
The key item we’re still missing… a quick field test to determine ability to drive. A videogame-ish test of reflexes and judgement might doLikeLike

“The liquid butane is forced through a marijuana bud that has been stuffed in a glass tube. Held vertically, the butane sticks to the resin and drips from the tube. It’s then cooked into a solid. A pound and a half of marijuana is used to make about an ounce of “shatter.”
A grade school kid could figure out the rest, and with a few bucks can get the needed “plumbing” at the local hardware store.
Or is this the same distillation as “honey oil”? ( just dried)
Yup, hear all the time about those “labs” going boom.
As for your “description”,, Yup,, that’s just about right. The bigger the rig, the easier it is. It’s when he gets to the hill side is when the trouble starts. What’s a few skinned trees in the process?LikeLike

Don Bessee 02Apr15 08:27 PM
No, Don, I cannot say that I recall those events but I’ll accept that they happened even without getting with what you think I should.
If you would like to see these events stopped then you should support legalization. Rather than kicking marijuana under the figurative rug of prohibition, legalization would allow us to actually control production, distribution, sales, and consumption in the ways that we currently do with alcohol and tobacco.
There will never be a drug free anywhere and it is time to admit it and deal with it. The war on American people, AKA the war on drugs, has not, cannot, and will never work.LikeLike
-
Walt 02Apr15 08:49 PM
To continue the analogy, Walt, the must be figurative hillsides in producing shatter that aren’t included in those instructions. What’s a few house fires and explosions in the process?LikeLike
-
Just how do you propose to do that Kesti?,, We can’t control production, distribution, sales, and consumption now. The same issues will arise with taxation.
I can grow plants right now without fear of getting busted. ( personal use of course)
The same would go if I happened to “share” with a friend “in need”. ( for a nominal fee)
And for the record (again) I have never sold… ever.
So in your grand plan, good luck taxing that sale, or regulating said production.
So DO explain how legalizing it, is going to make it harder for kids to get. If they want it they can get it right now with NO problem. ( ask your kids. I bet they know someone, who knows someone to get it from.)LikeLike
