Happy Thanksgiving everybody. Heading down to my Feast down in Auburn at the homeless place. My special tradition. Tons of good grub, no dishes, no cooking. I wear my tattered jacket for this special occasion once a year and my old leather beanie with wool earmuffs. Stand in line and am waited on and foot with love . You should see the eyes of delight and caring when they feed me. The homemade soups are killer and the cranberries served are not in the shape in a can.
The best part is making the selfless caring people feel so good that they are helping a poor lost soul such as moi. Yes, we must think of others and bring joy to the hearts of the helpful and those who sacrificed their day to give back to the less fortunate. I have much to be thankful for, especially the free grub, no dishes, no sweating over a hot oven, a low gas prices to get there. And a full belly. Thank goodness for homeless shelters and kitchens.

Much to be thankful for this year as usual. And none of it has to do with material goods. A loving wife, being brought up in a caring household with parents that taught me to love learning and to be responsible. Healthy children enjoying their lives. I’m not in the hospital or in jail. Thank you Lord for my life!

YES!! We get a reprieve from the cooking and associated mess this year. Off to the eldest daughter and son-in-law’s digs. ( they guy can cook) It’s navigating the rat maze of Alta Sierra that will be the challenge.
For those who like to try different cooking recipes I will post my Father’s version
for Turkey in a day or two. Maybe the good Doc. will put up a thread for others to add their favorite “family secret”. Dad’a will be an all day event. ( you have been warned)
I even may add the stuffing fix’ns as well. ( measured for 30 people no less….)
( actually printed in a prominent cook book many years ago)
A Happy Thanksgiving, and safe one to all.

Walt 1023am – Good suggestion. Why not use the comment stream of this post as the repository for any and all recipes, reports, reminiscences, and other suggestions related to Thanksgiving celebrations? Looking forward to the entries and I’ll even start one of our holiday favorites from the Rebanes called ‘Santa Claus squash’ – the origin of the name does not relate specifically to Christmas, but that’s another family story. The recipe is here, enjoy!

Instead of trying to re-write Dad’s “novel” can I send you a copy of the original “manuscript”? I have yet to figure out how to attach anything to these pages.

Happy Thanksgiving, and here’s hoping we all survive Black Friday, Turkey casserole Saturday, Turkey Taco Sunday, and December. Cheers!

Walt 1129am – Convert the manuscript into a pdf and email it to me. I can upload it to TypePad and then post the URL from which readers can access it. Comment photos are a bit more complex and require you to include both HTML code which accesses, formats, and displays the graphic, but also requires a web address from which the graphic can be accessed. Perhaps the easiest way is for you to set up your own website/blog to which you can upload whatever you want, each thing thereby getting its own URL which you can then include/embed in any or your communications from comments on RR to emails or even text messages.

OOhhhhh mannnnn…. The turkey wasn’t the only one that got stuffed…
That Son-in-law knows how to cook a bird. He used the smoker-grill this time.
NEVER had a better bird. Since I happen to have the same cooking device, the Christmas Turkey is mine. Just to one up the kid, I will throw a ham in next to Tom.
Hope everyone had as good a dinner as our family. ( now where are the Tums??)

The ladies brined the turkeys, then I put one in the smoker for an hour and then finished it off on the rotisserie. We had one in the oven also. Everyone agreed the smoked and rotisserie bird was the best.
