Had young Chicagoan Master Stephen Frisch escaped to San Antonio rather than San Francisco, the average IQ of both California and Texas might well be just a tiny bit higher, though overall, Texas would have been the loser.

Aha! The news says that Honduras is the murder capital of the globe. Maybe, maybe not. Assuming that is true, per capita one has a greater chance of being cut off from among the living in Chicago or New Orleans or pick you favorite Americana City run by gun hating progressive liberal Marxists
Hate to break it to my dear brain dead pieces of broken thinker progressasses, but no gun control law has ever prevented a murder. No law has ever prevented rape or assault. The unwashed masses are simply not deterred by laws, especially gun control laws. From Sandy Hook to the movie theater in Colorada numerous laws, including scores of gun laws already on the books were violated.
Immigration laws are violated every darn day. Those with broken thinkers do not even think first to enforce existing laws. Their sorry solutions is to add more worthless laws in an attempt to nationalize gun control and decriminalize sneaking into our country (breaking into our house) rather than enforce existing laws on the books for years.
Judging by the way libs/progressasses who reelect the likes of Nancy and Maxine and even our disengaged Vacationer in Chief, one can only conclude that libhole Marxists have broken pickers as well as broken thinkers.

    Quote for the day:
Environmentalism and the Fear of Disorder: Greens engage in rituals to allay their anxieties.
Why do people recycle and buy organic foods? According to Marijn Meijers and Bastiaan Rutjens, a couple of social scientists at the University of Amsterdam, they do it to realize a sense of personal control stemming from their fear that disorder is increasing in the world. Technological optimists, meanwhile, are more likely to eschew the comfort of such rituals.
Glenn Reynolds offers this analysis: This also explains why they’re largely immune to facts and reason: It’s basically something more like a religion, or maybe compulsive hand-washing. My thought, this is why they do not recognize the facts about AGW, by subscribing they feel some ability to control the climate by reducing CO2 emissions, but refuse to stop breathing.

The rush to pass more gun control laws when those on the books, if followed, would have already prevented the atrocity is one of the many sicknesses that inhabit the progressive mind which is more or less impervious to reason as the world knows it. Occam would say they are either butt stupid or promoting the evil of subsequent tyranny.

I am glad to see the big out-of-town papers probing our towns, often on their front page, as The Bee did in the Lester fraud case and the failure of Citizens Bank, or The Chronicle when it comes to our financial drain from the Lester fraud case. We need more “watchdogs,” and — being “isolationists” much too often — we need to see how others see us.

El Hefty got called on his BS by the CEO of the Grass Valley Chamber today:
“Anyway it is obvious that you don’t really want to join the GGVCC so lets move on and please before you lash out in future articles about the GGVCC contact me for the facts and real story behind any controversy, real or not, you may have.
Remember Jeff, the first rule of journalism is to check the facts before you go ahead with the story, unless of course you don’t care about the facts and that seems to be the case with many bloggers these days. Kumbaya back to you!”
Jeff got real huffy with me last year after another story of his that he did an incompetent job vetting… Jeff waxed eloquently when announcing (what a scoop!) the oldest collegiate choir in the US coming to Grass Valley, InConcert Sierra presenting the Harvard Glee Club. Only the HGC isn’t the oldest collegiate choir even at Harvard… the Harvard University Choir predates it by perhaps as much as a half century, about a score years if you only go by the charter dates. Jeffie’s sole source was a web page maintained by the undergrads of the HGC. Frat rats. Presented with official Harvard links about the UChoir stretching back over 170 years, all Jeff could do is repeat the kiddies claims to be older, over and over.
The Glee Club replaced their manager before they got to Grass Valley and InConcert Sierra’s announcement in The Union followed my guidance, not Jeff’s.
    Lazy and mean.

Maybe the ocean floor methane plumes are emitting from our progressive friends who have yet to crawl out of the primordial slime from whence they originated. We should welcome our yet to appear new arrivals. It’s called being neighborly.

I see Boardman has gotten under the skin of Jeffie and the Lickspittles; his pointing out that the recent organic dining extravaganza on the street in downtown Nevada City, courtesy of the leadership of Ms. Senum was a $95 a plate affair has them in an uproar.
How “sustainable” is that? Once again, a left-liberal upper middle class, or wannabbe upper middle class, affectation. Much like shopping at the current incarnation of the Briar Patch. I don’t know about the rest of you guys but to me the old “commie co-op” on Joerschke Drive had a charm to it, not to mention prices that were a bit less stratospheric for those of us who think life is too short to put up with using fake maple syrup.

Mr Gregory. I read an exchange between between former Nevada City mayor/city council historian/all around good guy Steve Cotrell and Ms Senum a couple of years back.
Seems Steve was pointing out that never in Nevada City’s history anyone was charged to attend an event on the public streets of downtown and that was by design and long forgotten city council’s’ rules, declarations, protocols, and regulations.
Miss Renee’s response was it was for a good cause and screw you naysayers (in more polite language). Steve replied he was not against the dinner on the public streets, but felt it was not ok to charge folks per previous councils’ rulings on the use of the public square. He was quite civil and informative and Missy stuck to her guns doing the ends justify the means routine. Papers? We don’t need no stickin papers or permits.

Walt, good question. Who is the biggest lame brain, the one who complained about the display of that horrid 5 letter word starting with B and not rhyming with itch, or the business who removed the sign containing that 5 letter word?
Bacon is an offensive word. Looking at fat tubs of lard waddling in public offends me, but I don’t whine about it. I can understand any business wanting to maintain a certain public image and I can understand if the business sent her a gift basket of pork rinds, bacon bits, and sliced ham. With a bottle of alcohol of course.
Not owning that business in that New England town, I can’t bring myself to call them a bunch of pussies for not standing up for the 1st Amendment after so much blood had been shed defending it. Plus Commerical speech is different than free speech.

Wonder what Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain boys would think of that. Probably the good folks of Winooski think Ethan Allen is a home decorating store, or, most likely, they don’t claim him as an ancestor, neither do they have his blood pumping through their veins. Time to give Patrick Henry death.
Sure, displaying the word bacon is not Winooski friendly. After all, in this new millennium no one can be offended, no one at all. Read about one school district in the same neck of the woods that banned every single word that might possibly offend someone. The word Halloween was banned cause it had the potential to offend Jehovah Witnesses. I know some Jehovah Witnesses and getting uptight over what the secular world does is not even on their radar. They would be more offended by celebrating a birthday party at their kids school than anything else. Yet, they would allow their kids to attend. Hard has those dear souls try, they have yet to convert me, despite their numbers of fine looking babes wishing to serve a husband. They ain’t out to change society or words used in public I can assure ya.
I find this whole topic a bunch of horse pucky nonsense. Even some schools have banned little 5 minute birthday parties at the end of class cause some child might get butt hurt if their parents did not send now banned pink cupcakes on Johnnie’s B-day. That offends me as well.
Commerical speech is different than free speech in public. Any TV or radio station can refuse to air an ad if they deem it offensive or found to be in the “that is so wrong” category. That is why it is different, although our public institutions of higher learning act as though conservative speech should be treated like Commerical Speech and regulated heavily. Just ask the professor who teaches a class on porn at UC Santa Barbara. Teaching porn is A-OK, being pro-life is offensive and not to be tolerated according to Professor Porn, the nickname her students adoring named her.

Assad is doing airstrikes on the Syrian Isis fellows and we are doing the same on the Isis fellows in Iraq. Does that mean we are on the same side as Assad? Egypt and Qatar are doing airstrikes in Libya now….without 0bama’s permission. How dare they recognize a threat to their survival and take action. Shocking I tell, absolutely shocking. The rebels we armed under the guise of the moderate Muslim Bro-hood ended up in the hands of Al Quata and Isis. Most puzzling. Bet they are laughing all the way to the bank.
Now the Palestinian folks are being occupied and 0bama is pissed at the Zionists to the max. Problem is the folks in Gaza are being occupied by Hamas.
Figure Egypt is siding with Israel and possibly the Kurds and blasting away at the Bro-hood’s proxies in Lybia on this one cause Isis is the name of an Egyptian god and it is downright so wrong to take that name.
    Don’t call me Bro, bro-in-law.
It wasn’t too long ago when 0bama went to one of those G-7 summits and the Chinese delegation dodged him. Hide and seek. The White House aids were scrambling to find out where the Reds were cause they were off rubbing elbows with other world leaders while 0bama was holding court. He had to race down the hall and crash the Chinese party uninvited. Well, at least 0bama solved the Northern Ireland conflict, but somebody forget to tell Britian it was all 0bama’s doing.
Oh, 0bama started off so good with that Nobel Peace Prize for community organizing and telling the Egyptian President that the banned Muslim Bro-hood was coming to Cairo over Egyptian objections and sat the Bro-hood in the front row, lol. Well, that Egyptian Prez is now gone. At least the military running Egypt is smart enough to give 0 and company the middle finger right back at them.

    Sigh….
My FB response to Jim Hemig’s defense of George Boardman that he has the right to state his opinion ( and of course he does…. BUT) This doesn’t fly with me, Jim, and this is why… “Boardman needs to educate himself before writing a column and attacking something of great benefit.
Either he has the right to criticize or not….you don’t get to “qualify” his speech. It is an “opinion piece”.
    “Great benefit”….prove it.
Perhaps Boardman should actually scratch a little deeper and look into the hidden costs of unhealthy food. If he is so concerned about the price of organic food and the need for foodies to help those down on their luck, he should point out how Big Ag is completely subsidized.
Fine….since you and jeffy are friends….and I draw this conclusion because he lets you post there sans moderation, perhaps you and he will petition the government to eliminate farm subsidies. Scoopy markets himself as the “Voice of the Sierra Foothills” so I’m sure you should have no difficulty arranging an audience with democratic legislators who share your concerns.
I would suggest though that you too “scratch a little deeper” and look into the ramifications of all the government sponsored initiatives that are likely as guilty in causing the health problems you are so concerned about….food pyramid, suggestions that sugars are preferential to fats, etc.
WE the taxpayers are subsiding cheap, unhealthy food… then we’re hit again with the hidden costs of health care due to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc. If Big Ag wasn’t subsidized it would be four times more expensive than organic.
    Cited without evidence.
And how many other fundraisers has George bashed? Funny, out of all the hundreds and hundreds of fundraisers that we have in this county, Boardman goes after this one.
Who cares? Again it’s an opinion piece….
He has chosen to use a beautiful event to unnecessarily prove a point. Shouldn’t we all be sparing and sharing a dime whether we eat organic or not?
We all are “sparing and sharing” both voluntarily through events like this and compulsorily through taxes.
Too bad he didn’t enquire ahead of time because I could have informed him that at the dinner table we had homeless, and the poor sitting with us, and their dinners paid for. I could also have informed him that we also fed about 20 hungry mouths of those on the street with what we had left over.
I’m sure he was at least vaguely aware that you would be feeding the homeless.
Or that some of those ‘foodies’ actually worked with the county to get EBT moneys for our local farmers market so that the poor CAN afford organic. But, no, he chose to pick on the Farm to Table to make his point instead…. and completely unnecessarily. I don’ t have a problem with Boardman expressing his opinion, but to bash such a beautiful event to make his point is just completely uncalled for.
It certainly seems like you do have a problem with Mr. Boardman expressing his opinion. You were a public figure as the mayor so I’m sure you understand that your statement (to get EBT moneys for our local farmers…) makes it a completely legitimate target for criticism as it has to do with the spending of tax money.
Why not ask people to forgo their Starbucks latte, or a nice expensive meal at one of our non-orgnanic restaurants, or skip the family vacation, or, hey, how about dropping a Union subscription to put the money towards the hungry? Talk about a double standard. No, instead, Boardman uses the Farm to Table as his example. COMPLETELY unnecessary.”
Just a suggestion Reinette….don’t adopt jeffys writing style….to be blunt it’s not good and largely incoherent when passions (his usually and yours in this case) are involved.

    Here is the question-
Is The Union trying to hold onto their aging subscribers or trying bring in new ones? I believe it is the former because of the pinch social media is putting on news print. By choosing this route The Union will be finished by 2025. I know our age bracket 45-50 are moving more and more into the digital age and using print less and less. Those under 40 are almost exclusively internet/ digital with news, books, and music. This is why the battle for net neutrality is so important.
I think there is a real danger in making news a free for all on social media. Without proper training, oversight, and rules the news media is a dangerous tool if it is accepted as the truth.

You do realize that you’re arguing against your premise in the first paragraph with your second.
And who had Mr. Democratic Equalitarianism figured for a crypto media gatekeeper?

    Fish,
Wrong again, I am pointing out that The Union is making poor long term decisions by not trying to adapt to the changing demographics and technology. If they actually did a better job at reporting the news instead of trying to create the news maybe more people would be willing to stick with news print and eventually purchase their online news subscriptions. Try to reach out to the younger generations instead of ignore or alienate them. The route they are taking will assure becoming obsolete within a dozen years or so. What advertising will invest in a dwindling readership and population who’s consumerism/ shopping has been dramatically reduced.

Whether the content is worth a shit I leave for the reader to decide….that they were FUElish enough to hire jeffy at some point is an argument in your favor though. He’s bad enough for free (except for comedy relief) I couldn’t imagine anyone paying for his bilge if not forced to at gunpoint.
And unfortunately again, in the space of two sentences you manage to argue against your previous point.
….. I am pointing out that The Union is making poor long term decisions by not trying to adapt to the changing demographics and technology.
    contrasted with;
If they actually did a better job at reporting the news instead of trying to create the news maybe more people would be willing to stick with news print and eventually purchase their online news subscriptions.
    Pssst…..Ben….the Union has a website: http://www.theunion.com….just like SacBee.com, SFGate.com etc.
Why would anyone elect to “stick” with print? A media that you acknowledge is dying out….2025 is still your timeframe I believe.
I am curious to know why you suddenly have gone all gatekeeper on the media…..something those of the younger generation demonstrate that they won’t put up with. They want music, they get it online usually without paying for it….they want movies and TV same thing. Porn, games, gossip…..all free!
And of course you close with another patented Emery stinging indictment of society and its purchasing decisions…..I don’t know why they won’t pay for news content Ben…..maybe because they are stealing it just fine right now.

He’s too much of a coward to sign his name, and Rebane won’t moderate his blog. “Fish” obviously doesn’t have much going on his life. Without this blog, his dialogue would be cut by 7/8. Just count the number of times he mentions this blog vs. the times he doesn’t. LOL.

Fatty you just don’t get it…..chatting with you idiots is just how I burn extra calories. The only way that I “crawl back under my rock” is if I suddenly find myself bored with you…..a possibility….. but not one I see in the immediate future!
    …and as always LOL!
