[Apologies for my recent silence.  We were doing a little trailering with friends in the future State of Jefferson during the past week ;-)  When SoJ comes to pass, one of the first orders of business is to spread broadband far and wide.  And we can, of course, start that right here in Nevada County.  Did everyone see D'Souza's film 'America'?  Apparently every leftie in town went to see it, and then packed the movie's review page with horrible posts.  But, hey, at least it's good to see them put their money where their mouth isn't.]

Stevie…I saw a link at the drudge report for another “council” of sort back East. Was wondering if the SBC provides similar “services”? The “what we do” sections are similar.

More business friendly news from Nevada County. This Local CBS Report made the Drudge Report.
NEVADA COUNTY (CBS13) — A war veteran who builds furniture in his garage and gives it to military families in need could be forced to shut down the saws.
A homeowners association is telling Dennis Kocher he needs to close up shop after years of doing business, or he could be fined between $100 and $1,000.
“I may not paint, sand, cut wood or screw on the property at anytime,” he said.
The new mandate cuts deep, as he’s been building cabinets and dressers for a decade, donating most to military families.
“Everyone who received my furniture or responsible for dispersing it gave me this gift and it’s something I’ll treasure forever,” he said holding a photo.

He builds to help make a better life for families who have very little.

“Apparently every leftie in town went to see it, and then packed the movie’s review page with horrible posts.” — Maybe it was just a crappy movie to begin with.. what proof do you have of this far fetched statement.. none as usual? Is this just another case of blaming the left for everything you disagree with?
“Liberal love RUlES that tell us how to live out lives.” another example of the above– Russ — please offer some proof that the homeowners association in question was a bunch of liberals. Perhaps Mr. Kocher was violating building codes or homeowners association regulations. A person cannot run a lawnmower in Lake Wildwood before 8:00 AM. Is this more liberals tellings us how to live our lives or just common courtesy that had to be written into law because some people are just plain discourteous and fail to recognize how their actions effect their neighbors?
The next thing you know the hard right will be blaming liberals for solar eclipses because they are a socialist plot to take sunlight away from conservatives and stomp on their constitutional rights.

JoeK 1019am – The uniform panning of the movie was on a Sierra Cinemas page for ‘America’. But just google movie reviews for the movie to see how it is being received by the Left. It is not farfetched to report that in our polarized country the Left will pan a movie that reports the Right’s view of US history and its role in the world. And yes, it’s good of you to grasp that one of the main themes of RR is to remind readers of how the stratagems of central planners impact our lives. However, as the record here shows, the Left does not get blamed for “everything” that is wrong with our governance – Republicans are also frequent targets when they stray from the Founders’ Principles and the Bastiat Triangle of Rights. Your job is to convince readers of the benefits of socialism and how it will not destroy America.

I am no big admirer of D’Souza, and thought the late Christopher Hitchens did a good job of mopping the debate stage with Dinesh from a left-libertarian atheistic point of view. That said, I have no doubt the panning of “America” by the local Left is more of the same reactionary criticism the hard Left is famous for.
By the way, there has been no comments at El Jefe’s blog for two days. Maybe he should go on vacation and post travelogues more often.

Lefty’s are well known for “stacking the deck” on anything they collectively don’t like. From a Board of supervisors meeting, with every “decenter” having the same pre written screed in hand, to ” petitions of locals”.( with more out of town names than local names).
LIBS even figured out how to run up the tally with the Union’s online polls. ( then bragged about it openly.)
So trashing a Concretive movie isn’t anything new. Not a bit different than what they did with Atlas Shrugged, or Obama’s America.
Don’t forget how LIBS sung the praises of Mikey Moore’s crapumentry,, and of course the BS of “gasland”.

Just saw ‘America’. It is a well done telling of the story from both the America Haters and Lovers side – although I thought that he really bent over backwards to tell the Hater side with first person interviews, historical film clips, and an overflow of direct quotes. The movie contains about the first half of his book of the same name. The second half goes into more detail on the history and ‘theories’ of governance. I can recommend both the film and the book to RR readers of all stripes.

EPA Admits to Senate that CO2 Regs Not About Pollution Control
On Wednesday, before the Senate EPW Committee, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy had this priceless quote regarding the EPA’s proposed carbon dioxide regulations (italics added):
“And the great thing about this proposal is it really is an investment opportunity. This is not about pollution control. It’s about increased efficiency at our plants…It’s about investments in renewables and clean energy. It’s about investments in people’s ability to lower their electricity bills by getting good, clean, efficient appliances, homes, rental units.”
This gaffe could come back to bite the EPA. The Endangerment Finding was all about the negative effect of “carbon pollution” on the environment. Now we find out “this is not about pollution control”?
Clear demonstration of how the liberal mind works, tell the people on thing, but do another.

Dr. Rebane’s asks what is the definition of evil? Evil dons many faces yet always looks the same.
Evil is our Justice Department where all transparency and inquiries go to die. Evil is declaring the results of any action are racist if the outcome has disproportionally affected one group, even though no racism nor intent of racism ever originated. Evil is intentionally stilling a free and vibrate press (asking hard yet fair questions) so the press would back off and look the other way. Evil is wiring tapping reporters and their families. Evil is letting the dogs loose on political opponents (real or imagined) with the full force of the Justice Department and Treasury Department (IRS) to silence political opponents.
In essence, a definition of Evil can be construed to be a purposeful attempt to trash the 1st Amendment with its guareentes of freedom of speech (expression) freedom of the press to be uninhibited, freedom of association, and passing laws or by executive Order hindering freedom of religion or favoring one religion over another.
Evil is the author of lies, deceit, and misrepresentation. Religious writings label Evil as the Father of Lies and the word evil is actually personified.
Evil is cooking the books, be it wholesale canceling of sick patients’ appointments at the VA or awarding higher grades to anyone who received less than adequate scores in school based on the color of one’s skin to avoid having outcomes that the Justice Department may deem to be unintentional racism. Evil is the antithesis of liberty, Justice, and valor.

Mr Kocher lives in Lake Of the Pines. He has probably upset some one who is now ratting him out. Most gated communities are, to me, hell holes. A lot of folks love them. Mr Kocher is learning – too late – the issue I have with these places. I’m not against the idea of having them for the folks that like them, and I’m all for letting folks live there if they want. It keeps them far, far away from me. This isn’t a good example of lefty fascism, it’s just a case of some one who’s not clued into the way of life in a gated community. Lefties go after everyone, no matter where they live and pry into their lives and drawers and refrigerators and thoughts. There are plenty of examples of that – this just isn’t one of them.

Being a recent escapee from one local “planed” lockdown community, I can attest to their draconian covenants. The “no fences” was at the top of my peeves. Anyone and everyone used my place as a short cut. ( a well beaten path right by my window)
No hunting either.. The deer and turkeys are well versed in those restrictions.
Who says wildlife and man can’t co-exist? Take a ride through the likes of LWW and LOP and observe the co-mingling.
The anti hunting critter lovers should get a nice look at their handiwork. A deer the size of a goat with a 275 in. rack. ( Uh,, not good.) The inbreeding is showing big time. Same goes with the turkey’s They are turning blonde.( no pun intended)
Crime seems more prevalent inside the wire than out. Yup,, I sure was getting my money’s worth. If it wasn’t the county busting my balls over not getting a permit to do a minor repair, the ASSociation was sending nastygrams for an empty garbage can that was just visible from the street. Never mind the hole in the vacant house’s roof just up the street. That’s OK… ( I guess banks who foreclosed are immune from fines for run down property.)
Glad I’m out of there. No I can mow my lawn nude at 10:00 at night if I see fit to do so. I can take a pee and have a smoke off the front porch as the Sun rises without fear of getting some association enforcer writing me up.
This used to be the ” Land of the free”… FREEDOM… Think about that. Just what are we really ” free” to do? ( without need of license, permit, permission, or statute)
That sure doesn’t leave much anymore.

Question: Would you have a better chance of surviving two weeks on the mean streets of Detroit or Chicago than you would in Guatemala? Which scenario would have the higher probability of being murdered? If young people are less safe per capita in Chicago than in Central America, what does that say about the liberal mindset and the liberal dominated politicians who run our inner city ghettos and barrios? No wonder results don’t matter. Who are the real refuges and who is experiencing a true humanitarian crisis?
Now, dear reader, we must give credit where credit is due. Detroit’s murder rate has actually took a turn for the better. No, it’s not because people have abandoned Motown in droves, but that could play a role. According to the police chief of Detroit City, he gives full credit to that fact that more citizens have armed themselves with guns, thus the drop in the murder rate. Straight from the horse’s mouth and most contraire to the Liberal/Marxist/Obama Mind(less)set. Say it ain’t so.

I used sarcasm when I applied Homeland Security’s new definition of refugee to our children terrorized in our liberal run inner cities and dangerous urban jungles on a daily basis. I did forget to mention New Orleans, but things might be looking up for The Big Easy now that their former mayor during Katrina has been convicted on multiple racketeering and kick back charges. Should do more time than William Cold Cash Jefferson. But what about American born refugees? How can we turn our backs to them? Have we no heart? Ellen and I went to see America this afternoon before it closed up shop and left town. We went to the late afternoon show, and there were 19 people in the theater, all gray hairs above 50. One person jumped up at the end of the show and declared “God Bless America” to loud applause from the audience. There were two twenty somethings in the theater before I took my count, but they left after about 3 minutes, must have gotten in the wrong theater.
We give the movie two thumbs up. Well done, kept our interest. plus I learned some history that was not taught is school. I am looking forward to reading the book and exploring some of the issues in more detail.

His 15 nearest neighbors have written letters of support. Now Vet Units across the land are coming to his support. Lake of the Pine rules and their application is getting some national attention. His neighbors are not complaining, it is the management who according to Kocher, who has never even visited his home has decided he is running a business. His defense, he is running a hobby out of his garage. The Lake of Pine claims it is a business which is forbidden in this closed community. Looks like closed minds at Lake of the Pines. Mitt Romney 2014?
As much as I relish the underdog role, I will suffer through and be part of the immoral majority on this issue.
“Americans are so down on President Obama at the moment that, if they could do the 2012 election all over again, they’d overwhelmingly back the former Massachusetts governor’s bid. That’s just one finding in a brutal CNN poll, released Sunday, which shows Romney topping Obama in a re-election rematch by a whopping nine-point margin, 53 percent to 44 percent. That’s an even larger spread than CNN found in November, when a survey had Romney winning a redo 49 percent to 45 percent.”
Two years ago, Obama won re-election with about 51 percent of the vote.
Of course, the poll should be taken with a grain of salt. While Obama is actually taking on the tough task of leading the nation, Romney is sitting comfortably on the sidelines where he is liable to receive a more favorable reception. Still, the finding comes as foreign and domestic crises have sent Obama’s approval rating tumbling back to 40 percent, per Gallup.
Also in the CNN survey, a record-low 46 percent say Obama “shares [their] values,” while only 49 percent say he is “sincere in what he says,” also a record-low. – – Jon Terbush

Just some rigid bureaucrats who are incapable of applying come common sense. The neighbors are not concerned, why is the Home Owners Association Administrator? There has to be some pressure being applied now, as his building hobby has been going on for over decade. Why is his hobby an issue now? Are the rules being applied uniformly, or as Mr. Kocher claims used to target people? With all the national focus, lets see how our local media covers the story and the how the Home Owners Association responds.

It boils down to “power trips”. Give someone an smidgen of authority, and dollars to donuts that authority will be abused. Some “code enforcer” must have found out what the man was doing, and decided to implement zero tolerance.
In LWW, I had to deal with a “compliance officer” about my propane tank. They demand it be screened from view of the street. ( it was,, by my house) They demanded a redwood lattice “box”. So surrounding a pressure vessel with highly flammable wood is a GREAT idea. Someone else down the street put a “lifetime gate” ( those farm gates every rancher uses) in front of his.. Great decent man he is. 3rd or 4th or 5th generation. His grand pappy (or his grandpappy’s dad) built that old barn on Spenceville Road and last I looked it was still
standing. Funny guy. He used the term Penntucky proudly and it was the first time I ever heard it way back then.
He often said Wildwood is not Penn Valley. There is PV and there is Wallyworld. And he just wasn’t talking about location. He was referring to a mindset, about newcomers with their pockets full of new regulations and changes and requiring us to play “Mother, may I?” Enjoy your naked lawn mowing in Penntucky and don’t forget to wear yer sunscreen.

Something custom fit for the sandbox:
In a delightful sign of the times, a new poll and much data mining reveals that Redskins fans wants the word “Washington” dropped from the team’s name. Sanity rears it’s ugly head in Washington of all places.
