In genereal liberals are not stupid; many of them just have bad luck when they think.  (However, this cannot be said of California liberals).

As we await details of the House suit against this Executive, it might be good to remind ourselves what kind of thinking has put the country into a tailspin.

1. When you are against government providing a service or subsidizing a class of people, you are immediately pilloried as wanting to deny everyone the benefits of such service, or ‘waging war’ and/or ‘hating’ members of the subsidized class.  You stand loudly accused of this no matter that the service can be freely and widely obtained elsewhere without government funding.  And you are a hating warmonger no matter that you can demonstrate most government funding programs at worst exacerbate the stated problem, and at best are totally ineffective.

2. Given a uniform history of failures, the same government funded/imposed solution should be applied again because this time it really will work – besides, the data on past failures can simply be denied as partisan.

3. Messages from the wrong messengers need never be evaluated on their merits.

4. Government funded science should serve a prescribed social agenda and tailor its results accordingly.  Science not funded by government is prima facie suspect.

5. Imposing calcifying regulations on an area of rapidly evolving enterprise is always good, especially when done without any understanding of the enterprise or examination of the effect of the new regulations.

6. Tax rates have no impact on the practice of taxed activities, or how much of the taxed products/services will be available to and/or demanded by the markets.

7. Unmediated democracy based on universal suffrage and franchise is the best form of government.  Fair and just government results from allowing everyone to vote on everything.  In the aggregate, all people are informed, wise, and rational.  (Victor Davis Hanson gives us an overview here of what such people abet and abide.)

8. The government and the country are one.  If you criticize and oppose government, then you are not a loyal American and subject to sanction.

9. There should be no limit on what fraction of GDP is made up of government spending.

10. Jobs are created by judicious government spending, and destroyed by corporate greed.

11. Taxing corporations impacts only overcompensated management and speculators in the corporation’s shares.

12. Above a certain TBD level government owns essentially all of your earnings.

13. Above a certain TBD level government owns ALL of your property and can charge you rent for its use.

14. All debts public and private can be forgiven at the pleasure of the government.  All savings may be confiscated at any time for the public good.

15. The Founders erred when they provided Americans the means to vote with their boots, bullets, and ballots.  Voting should only be possible with ballots.

16. Equality can always be increased without diminishing liberty.

This is a partial list.  And recent examples of such thinking in action are readily available from the daily press.  Two come to mind today.

American corporations pay the world’s highest taxes, averaging about 40% when all federal, state, and local taxes are included.  This adds pressure to other reasons to relocate overseas – lower labor costs, taxes, proximity to world markets, less onerous regulations, declining access to investment capital, … .  The promised tax reform is not coming, so corporations have increased the pace of ‘inversions’ – merging with overseas companies so as to relocate their headquarters offshore and essentially become foreign companies.  This year we have already seen 14 inversions and more are cooking.

So what do the brainiacs in Obama’s administration propose, lower corporate taxes?  Nooo, SecTreas Lew wants Congress to pass more onerous restrictions that prevent such moves.  The collateral damage from such butt stupid solutions are manifold (more here and here).

Think tanks on the left are proposing that the top income tax rate be raised to 80% with an added 10% “wealth tax”.  This would be the latest in government’s trashing the Constitution’s takings clause and exercise of eminent domain for public use (SCOTUS essentially trashed the latter in Kelso v New London which allows government to transfer property from one private owner to a more favored private owner).  But the wealth tax is a dooser, any such tax is a constructive rent on the use of your former property which now tacitly belongs to the government (more here).

These inverting companies don’t get high “buddy ratings”. These companies would probably convert to Islam if it would save or make them money.
That said, overtaxing is not the solution. I wonder what will happen if a conservative government takes power in a couple of years? Not much really seems to get accomplished no matter which party holds the Oval office.

Lots can happen when the same party occupies the Oval Orifice and dominates both houses of Congress. Sometimes, like Obamacare and the Great Society, it’s bad things that happen.

How we got to this condition in America is pretty simple. If you’ve ever trapped animals even the smartest can be caught with the right bait. Some ways are downright violent and fast….like a rat or mouse trap baited with a piece of a Snickers candy bar. Or you can use a cage trap with whatever bait is desired. If you don’t know just put some food outside the cage until the habit is developed. Then put it inside the cage trap. The addict will be trapped.
George, you’ve pretty much described the human aspect of falling for the trap. Dependance on government handouts redistributing the wealth from producers to itself to become all powerful deciding who gets what. The terrible immigration fiasco was planned. No sane government would tolerate it. It’s not about compassion, it’s about planned confusion, economic destruction, and constant war within. The funny part is that there is no so- called home security with this regime. It’s all smoke and mirrors. How many times have we heard “it’s for the children” by those fleecing taxpayers for their personal gain. Now we’re told these children made it to and across our border on their own? Something’s fishy in D.C. If our nation has to borrow money to stay afloat…and our cities are already strapped and unable to deal with their growing numbers of poor, unemployed homeless people…why would our regime bring in thousands more, unless to bring us to our knees. Sorry to get carried away, but it’s depressing to realize what’s happening. If you’ve ever been poor you remember that it’s hard to give time and money to charity. America used to be a place where the little nobody could realize his/her dreams. Now there are too many regulations, taxes and fees to feed the aristocracy in charge of redistribution.

“Not much really seems to get accomplished no matter which party holds the Oval office.”
We’ll assume you mean the 2 dominant parties. There are others. The odds of the Greens or some flavor of Tea Party gaining actual power in DC to pass and sign into law legislation promised by these outliers is somewhere between slim and none with the odds going heavily on none.
But – there would be changes.
There is so much power and money concentrated in DC, that there is little for the average folk to do anything about it. The IRS is now weaponized to bring down any who would threaten the status quo. And a willing news media that regurgitates outright lies and assures the average person that the powers that be always know best. The smarties on the left that claim they are willing to think for themselves and follow the facts are laughable. Witness the outcry from the left concerning the Hobby Lobby case. I haven’t heard one single lefty that even has a clue what the case is about or what the outcome means to the average citizen. Every lefty simply listens to Nancy Pelosi’s lies and falls right into line. Even more laughable is the nut case notion that politicians would be ever so honest if only the govt was in charge of handing out campaign funds. True conservatives and libertarians are the only independent thinking folks (as a group) left in this country.
And they are regularly savaged as racists or worse to avoid having to actually deal with the issues they bring up.
The power base in DC and most statehouses depend on promising ever more free goodies to the proles. These goodies are always held out as ‘rights’. More and more money has to be forcibly transferred from producers to takers. At this point, though, it’s not nearly enough and the fed govt is busily engaged in borrowing and money printing to try to make the nut. The nut, of course, moves ever further away into infinity as the govt races to catch up. This has all been tried before numerous times in history and it never ends well.

Here is my take. In 1953 the Marxists knew they could never win running as a 3rd party in America. They chose to enter and infiltrate the Democrat party back then because the Democrat Party had Caucasus in the primaries while the Republican Party did not. It took the Marxists awhile but through hard effort they eventually took over the Democrat Party local, state and national leadership roles and chaired the committees of power.
now they have their sights on the Repulican Party and are starting to make inroads, albeit the Rhinos are being thwarted by the Tea Party at the local committee and chairmanship levels.
You can take the entire list of Dr. Rebane’s excellent post above and instead of using the word “liberal”, substitute liberal for the more accurate word “Marxist”.

Number 11 nails the typical lefty response to the Hobby Lobby decision.
“that women have a right to their bodies.”
The H.L. decision doesn’t have anything to do with any decision any woman makes about ‘her body’. Also notice that only women have this ‘right’. This same simpleton has no trouble fabricating all manner of laws that do, in fact, remove from women decisions that concern their bodies. You can bet she will never debate any of these 11 points in a public forum.

I’m sorry there are so many people who don’t realize they’re in charge of their body, their choices they make and if they don’t like the way it turns out they can also change. The crippling mentality is thinking our body, our choices should be someone else’s responsibility. It’s disgusting….and where will this wind up? Probably like China’s birth control solution.

Bonnie has hit on a key marker concerning theories of governance. If it is my body and my choice, what business is it of the government to decide how I will spend my efforts with same body and what financial recompence I should receive for those efforts? How does prostitution play out in a socialist system? Does an old and ugly street walker deserve a ‘living wage’ if she hangs out on a street corner for 40 hrs a week? If the government can force me to wear a helmet while operating certain types of motor vehicles due to ‘social costs’, then obviously control of ‘my body’ is the total concern of the government. What we eat and how fit we are constitutes a much greater ‘social cost’ to society. Ah, but these are facts and feftys don’t like facts when talking about the govt. It’s all about hysterical shrieking and gaining power. Being responsible for making decisions about our bodies leads to the obvious conclusion that we are then responsible for the outcomes of such decisions. Here is where the left’s ship takes sail and departs from reality. The left has a firm belief in ‘a woman’s right to chose’ but also that society (your money and mine) has the responsibility of picking up the tab for the consequences. It is this dichotomy of reason that I can not follow.

Very True– just recall how those who opposed the war in Iraq (or VietNam) were treated by “patriotic Americans”– America, love it or leave it all over again. Oh yeah, in case you forgot.. the Iraq war was started by neo-conservative oil goons who lied through their teeth and caused the deaths of tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands by independent non-American counts) of people, the total destruction of a sovereign nation, and a ten-fold increase in global terrorism. Perhaps if you changed your heading to “conservative logic– devoid of reality and always subservient to monied interests” your assessment might be a more accurate depiction of political discourse in America today. Have a nice weekend.

Vietnam was your war JoeK. Your ilk started it and it took a Republican to end it. America was in it because of the treaty obligations we had with the South and SEATO. But libs break the treaties don’t they? No guts to follow through with their obligations. Equality can always be increased without dismissing liberty ( point 16). Now that is good for a morning chuckle. Won’t bother throwing out the usual quotes from Ben Franklin to Dwight E. Eisenhower. Falls on dead ears, albeit 100% true today as it was 5,000 years ago. The Marxist liberals haven’t a clue.
Somewhere in the liberal logic Israel is the bad guy and the post-PLO Hamas is the hero riding in to town with the white hat and white stallion to save the day. Go figure. Makes sense to somebody out there in the Liberal Brain Freeze Zone, but I digress.
Political Correctness does not increase equality but it sure negatively impacts liberty. Same with seizing from one who earned and passing it out to those who do not earn makes neither more equal, be it morally or monetarily, but it sure impacts the one who has the fruit of her labor confiscated less free. In fact, the receiver becomes a slave to the earner. The Marist Liberal though process is if misery loves company, then all should be equally miserable.

Blame Bush, blame them Wiley Republicans. Republican ends with “i can” as in yes we can, hope and change, the check is in the mail and the Mercedes is in the shop.
This sleazy administration ( as well as the Marxist Progressives) still don’t get it. They claim we don’t have an illegal alien crisis, we have a “humanitarian” crisis. And they know exactly how to handle a humanitarian crisis. More pencil pushers, more money to blanket and obscure the problem with, and why not use The Border Patrol to make the kiddies sandwiches and wash the little ones’ clothes since we don’t have an immigration crisis, the border is secure, and The Border Patrol needs something to do now that the border issues are a thing of the past.

Dr. Rebane, as spectacularly accurate as your list was, your are omitting the liberals’ inability to correctly prioritize issues that affect the American people. I am flabbergasted that amidst the many current crises facing America, our leader chooses to allocate his time and resources towards pressing Congress into promoting jobsite equality for the LGBT community. Now, mind you, workplace equality is of importance, but one couldn’t help but think that perhaps this could hold off for more important pressing matters. But alas, there are more voters to be added to the ranks through empty rhetoric that is so grossly put on display by all major news outlets, and the fundraising bus was just gassed up for another cross-country tour. Say what you want about GB Jr., but at least he was reading to school children when a crisis occurred (9/11), rather than BHO being on the road grabbing cash from 1%ers, all while spewing the evils of income equality and completely ignoring the hole in the side of the Titanic.
Nevermind the fact that a world power may be behind the downing of a commercial airliner, another brazen move by a powerful dictator whom has completely defied the wishes of both the USA and the EU. In strength, Russia is no Iraq. How much longer until Putin decides to go for another land grab and annex in a few more territories? Think he is scared off by Obama, or by a possible future Hillary Clinton?
And don’t even get me started on our border…what is the purpose of even having one at this point? At this juncture, I am wholeheartedly convinced that Progressives believe that with the right (and obscenely high) amount of money, any problem can be solved through the “helping and efficient” hand of government. This country truly is one generation away from becoming a repeat of Lenin’s Russia, any deniers of this are the “frogs in the pot of water.”

Meanwhile, Gov. Rick Perry decides to actually do something about the situation:
    http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/21/politics/perry-national-guard-border/
One can’t help but notice the difference here in approach. The Team Obama solution is to utilize a huge sum of taxpayer dollars from the slush fund to provide social services to an unending tide of illegal immigrants. By providing these free services, surely (note the sarcasm here) this type of kind treatment would discourage future waves of unchecked immigration. The Mexican Drug Lords applaud in the background, as their coyote operations become more profitable and more channels for drug smuggling become available. With our border essentially wide open, now is the time to move some gang members/henchmen across the border to help strengthen the smuggling line.
Rick Perry, recognizing the dangers posed by unchecked immigration, has wisely decided to double down and request assistance, in what will surely be a valiant, but unsuccessful (no help from Washington) effort to protect his constituents.
How much longer until Al-Qaida (or an equivalent) wises up to the hole in the fence and decides to send in some operatives into the US via Mexico? While Washington and State Governments devise new ways to confiscate and limit the firearms of law-abiding CITIZENS, they have no problem letting lawless gang members flow in from our Southern border. Is there no end to the hypocrisy?

More lib logic. If one little “blue” pill can give one an woody lasting 4-6 hours and a trip to the ER, what would a dozen pills do? Queen Nancy obviously knows the answer. She took a couple handfuls of them little blue cures to find out what’s in them. To be fair, The Queen did agree to have her Botox injections taxed at a higher rate. Never seen a lib that didn’t climax over the thought of a tax hike. Judging by her appearance, she single handily has paid more than her fair share into the Treasury. Botox or no Botox, that 71 year old’s mug is enough to make a freight train take a dirt road.

Now some liberals say that Obama is not a Libby cause he ain’t liberal/Marxist enough. Guess we have to take the kiddies on a tour of our fine institutions of higher and staying high learning (Humanities Departments) to show them what a real libbie/Marists looks like.
Now, this is how the liberal/Marxist mind works. First the promises of what our Nation will do FOR you, then the deceit and facade and rule books taller than Mt Everest to keep State as the one and only God in existence. Example: Cuba. Disagree? That will cost you 20 years.
Enjoyed Milton Friedman’s quote in this opinion concerning the deceit, or Dr. Rebane’s point 1 if you prefer.

There is always the Exorcist,, There is a child and old people in that book,,.
But no child in Moby Dick.. The shame!
The Dome… Now there is some wholesome reading Now there is a ” Andy Griffith” way of life closer to reality.
Since Steve is familiar with Atlas Shrugged,, just which “side” of the fence were you on? They guy who came up with the product,, or the government’s ? Hell… Who am I kidding?? Steve is a “share the wealth” kind of guy.. By government decree and mandate if need be.

LIB Logic strikes again. “more gun laws,, gooood…” LIBS NEVER learn their lessons.
Again,, the mule mascot applies nicely. What happened in Colorado when draconian laws were written? Magul INC. pulled up stakes and left.
Now Beretta Arms is giving the finger to future gun laws.

Here’s the latest H.L. hysteria from the GV Union letters to the editor –
“Impeach the Supreme Court, Citizens United, McCutcheon and Hobby Lobby 5. No company should force their employees to not be covered for birth control, etc., due to their own religious beliefs. I feel this is not right and against the constitution giving the right for woman to choose what is right for her own health and body.
    Marian Farris
    Grass Valley”
I’m sure Marian really believes what she wrote is true. She has never read the decision or talked with anyone knowledgeable on the subject. H.L. employees have the same exact rights under Obamacare as anyone else, but she probably doesn’t want to believe that. We are a divided nation because the left spews lies at an increasing rate.
Best line of the day though, goes to Ms Pelosi as she quotes the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
“I reference the conference of bishops statement in which they say baby Jesus was a refugee from violence. Let us not turn away these children and send them back into a burning building.”
Uh, Nancy – first of all, we’re not a theocracy. Next – you usually tell the US Conference of Bishops to shove it. Now you quote them?
How many of these children are at Nancy’s mansion?
Ah – that’s right, they’re being sent to some where far, far away from anywhere you live.

Reading Rand I never really ‘picked a side’ Walt–seriously that is kind of like asking an adult which they like more the Coyote or the Roadrunner. Choosing between cartoons of ideas is not a rational choice.

He’s right Walt, believing in an ever growing state chock full of government functionaries will solve all our problems….that’s clearly the “rational” choice.
