Hope the kids do great! They earned their way there from hard work and determination,, and parents that sacrificed plenty. Hat’s off to all.
A little ritual has been started here. He who goes on a long distance trip to a far away place, brings back a “top shelf” bottle of the local
exotic elixir for the good Doc. Don’t forget to read the fine print of where it was bottled. I ran across plenty of fake “local stuff” on the islands.
Just wrap it up good, and stuff it in checked baggage. No problems.
Carry on will get you a nice visit with TSA… If ya’ know what I mean…

Is The Union turning into a real-estate agent? Looks like the old Indian Springs vineyards is up for sale again. The same sales pitch too. ” houses among the vines”
Maybe a good “investment” for one “who shall not be named”,, Worm farms are out, and vines are in! There is plenty of new, cheap, experienced labor just crossing the boarder needing work.
Even El Jeffe’ can get in on this. They can split the costs. Just write up some grant papers for submission. Try the biofuel angle. ( but some Lefties who love their wine, would consider that “alcohol abuse”…” How dare you!”)

In my simplistic view, the Supreme Court is not one iota about mandates. That is for the other 2 branches of government to harsh out. Its all about one question: Is it Constitutional or not? Nothing to do with mandates.
Yes, the Supreme Court ruled within a narrow scope about Hobby Lobby and also ruled in a narrow scope about the unionized home care workers who are not really state employees because they do not receive all the perks that other “real” state employees receive.
We should not extrapolate these decisions to overturning Row vs Wade or teachers and cops walking away from paying dues to the union thugs and their bosses who are currently having conventions at the nicest spots around the globe.
The Left always cries the “slippery slope, the slippery slope!!”
Two parties addressed the Court of have their grievances heard. In both cases The Supreme Court of the United States America ruled the aggrieved parties had their Constitutional rights trampled on by the State. Obama is having a bad track record lately before his sworn adversary, The Supreme Court.
Mandates? Mandates shamdates. Mandates have nothing to do with a law’s Constitutionality. Its to protect the little guy and his minority rights. Anyway, any former Harvard Law Professor of Constitutional Law knows this full well. We are a Republic ruled by law, not a Democracy ruled by a majority. Its for us little people.

“I have only held four jobs: staff writer at the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel…; staff writer and chief technology writer at the S.F. Chronicle covering big business …; editor at CNET … and The Union.”
Jeff, I’m a bit puzzled about that ‘editor at CNET’ claim being one of only four jobs of yours; the actual pieces you wrote at CNET for years stated you were just a “staff writer”. So, what were you, “editor” or “staff writer”?
Perhaps you could clear something else up for me: I have been told you were universally despised at The Union, given to yelling and in general, being a bully. Hard to imagine, I know. Perhaps some friend of yours from your time there, maybe the kid whose anonymous apology you related in the link you shared, could speak up for your work there.
Finally, by your standards, Huffington, Kos and NYT are solid and unassailable. Economist (a mildly Euro social democratic rag of high standards) and the WSJ are bad and can’t be cited in polite company.
And you try to paint yourself as a “moderate”. Amazing.

Well something has rubbed off on the Grandkids on the side of good.
I never have been a fan of hard rock “metal” music.. As for at least ONE band, that’s changed. The kid picked up a CD of ” Madison Rising”,, and begged me to play it, assuring me I would like it. ( Ya.. Sure thing kid,, I have already heard what you listen too..)
DAMN!!!! These guys are good, and the “message” is even better.
Never been a fan of great songs being rewritten for the “personal touch”, especially the “Star Spangled Banner”. That has been butchered by “artists” at every ball game. These guys actually did it justice!

The video is also awesome. ( Video content Warning to LIBS.. The starts and stripes is used “liberally” throughout, along with other patriotic images..)
Just maybe these guys would be worth booking to play at a Nevada Co. event. This is the younger generations music, and what better way to get their attention in Conservative politics?

“A 5-4 ruling along ideological lines is not anymore a “mandate” than a close vote in an election.”
The term is “stare decisis”, and it is far more than a close vote in an election, ready to be overturned the next time there is a similar case. Face it, Jeff, 5-4 at SCOTUS really is settled law and they aren’t likely to overturn it on a whim. It isn’t like elections, when the next time a case like that is brought up the issue is decided anew.

Jeffy has gone on the warpath over my note above, regarding his status as a “staff writer” early on at CNET.
Jeff, the issue wasn’t whether you were literally an Editor there at the end of your stay, it’s whether you were an Editor there at the beginning, which seemed to be your claim. I’ve found multiple citations of you as a “staff writer”, i.e. grunt. From the outside looking in, it appears you were bumped up to “Editor” circa 2004 (though on occasion sometimes as Internet news “editor”, lower case before then), and then flamed out not long afterwards.
Here’s an example of Pelline’s uninflated title:
http://news.cnet.com/Whitehouse.com-goes-to-porn/2100-1023_3-202985.html
Jeffie also seems to think the number of LinkedIn ‘friends’ seems to indicate something other than his choice to whore around to get “endorsements”; I have not and have even separated my connections to people who, for example, have worked with me in music who then “endorse” my skills in engineering. Sorry, not interested in meaningless endorsements.
More to my challenge… looking over Jeff’s LinkedIn endorsements in Journalism… not a single journalist is among the 47 who have given him the nod. It’s apparently mostly local government workers and his advertisers.

Stop the presses! Jeffie has shared the fact that one (1) person he worked with at The Union endorsed him for Journalism on LinkedIn… checking, he’s absolutely correct, one did. She’s been on the street for a couple years and is freelancing. So that’s still Zero working-at-a-company journalists endorsing Pelline for journalism. No one from the Chronicle, no one from C/NET, no one at The Union. One and only one person who used to be at The Union. Perhaps Jeff can get her to post here about how well liked Jeff was by his subordinates and peers.

“Greg XXX has a hard time admitting he’s wrong. But worse he resorts to outright lies and fabrications to score points. And Rebane publishes it. Greg: I was hired as an editor at CNET, not a staff writer.”
No lies, no fabrications from me, Jeff. I’m just reporting what I found at cnet.com. It calls you a staff writer early on, occasionally an Internet news editor (small e) multiple times early on. So magnanimous of you to accept being called a staff writer when your true title was more exalted.
Then you were on the street from 2004 to 2007, when you accepted the gig at The Union, lasting until 2008.
Stop the presses again! Jeff now claims two (2) former The Union employees gave him some endorsement, and one of them is actually working. Wow.
Jeffie also makes light of his tie to Mikail Graham, and refers to ‘our little joke’; the joke being his out and out fabrication of a “temper tantrum” he claimed I threw which, in fact, was a dispassionate letter I wrote to the Marching Presidents regarding their naming Mikail (great red diaper name, eh?) the Col. Bill Lambert Award winner. I recounted, in the first person, how Graham jumped onto Cooper’s Bar to steal away what he called “that thing”, the dress Navy uniform of one of the bartenders who had been called to active duty, when the bartender was around the corner out of sight. A classic case of hating the soldier, not just the war; he didn’t ask to be called to active duty, but his duty he would do. Jeffie apparently invented said tantrum for a bargaining chip… Jeffie offered to apologize if only I’d retract the claim I was told he was “universally despised” at The Union, but damned if I was going to retract something I was told by trustworthy sources in order to get an “apology” for a bald faced lie from Pelline.
The Presidents tried to refund my ‘dues’ so I wouldn’t cause a scene, but that isn’t my style (either backing out or causing a scene) but they could not refute my recounting of Graham’s denigration of a sailor’s uniform and service, and they couldn’t denigrate my protest letter precisely because it was devoid of emotion. Just the facts catching one in apparently a long line of chickenshit actions by Graham that even his friends acknowledge, and Col. Lambert was probably spinning in his grave the whole time.
Jeff Pelline, you are a baldfaced liar. Just admit you had NO EVIDENCE whatsoever for the claimed “temper tantrum” and we can get past this. I’ll even pat your head and praise you for finally doing the right thing.

Gee Gregory Goodnight, when you are going to call someone’s parents communists just because of the name they gave their child the least you could do is get the spelling of the name correct.
The name is spelled “Mikhail.”
That you would call someones parents communists just because they named their baby Mikhail really says it all about what a total complete idiot you are.

I got a double dose of that when he and Utah Philips were the MC’s for the so-called “Peace Vigil” at Miner’s Foundry in the lead up to the Iraq war, with the two of them leading one of the most hate filled rants I’ve ever seen. They kept telling their fans that we shouldn’t hate the Iraqis, when it was never “hate for the Iraqis” that was the motivator for ANYONE, even the folks who were gung ho for war. Even John Kerry was for the war before he was against it.
Mikail did a nice imitation Sinead O’Connor tear-up-a-photo-of-the-Pope as the real enemy while he was at it. I had enough at about 2AM.

If there is any real debate about the popularity, (or lack of) of the FUE when he was employed at The Union, one needs to simply ask ANYONE who worked there at that time, how he was to work for, with, etc. In my experience it is UNIVERSALLY 100% Negative! I challenge anyone to publicly state an opposing view. It is EXACTLY like communicating with him now. Rude, arrogant, dishonest, condescending, you name it, you will find it in a survey of former co-workers. Any suggestion otherwise is comical at best!

“Imposing religion on workers”
Posted on June 30, 2014 by jeffpelline
“The Supreme Court’s deeply dismaying decision on Monday in the Hobby Lobby case swept aside accepted principles of corporate law and religious liberty to grant owners of closely held, for-profit companies an unprecedented right to impose their religious views on employees,” The New York Times is reporting on its Op-Ed page.
Looks like both the “Old Grey Lady” and the “Old Fat Lady” are miffed that Hobby Lobby no longer has to be complicit in inducing abortions. Hey Fattius…women still have safe and legal access to all the contraception they had last Friday….they just have to pay for some of it now.
Imposing religion?
You should work for the Times….your grasp of logic is as flawed as theirs.

Here is a good article about the Court’s reasoning:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-30/obamacare-rebuffed-by-high-court-in-contraception-ruling.html
The government failed the pass the second part of the test. Also, the owners of a pro-profit company are just a group of human beings and those humans have religious rights whether at home, at play, or at work.
Gregory was right when writing about another topic. Using a word with a upper case or lower case makes all the difference in the world. In this case citizens or citizen. To expound:
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2014/06/30/hobby-lobby-ruling-why-supreme-court-got-it-right/
Of course the government can step in at anytime and cover the abortion pill gap.
Mr. Pelline, its all about Constitutional or Unconstitutional. Just like the Commence Clause that some love, others disdain. How come a person growing wheat in his back yard, selling the wheat to absolutely no one, consuming it solely for himself, not sending it over state lines or even giving it away or sharing the fruit of his labor with no one is regulated under The Commence Clause? Think about those consequences. No, strike that. Ponder solely if it is Constitutional or Unconstitutional.
What drives the Left batty is the Constitution is not a document that spells out what government cannot do: rather it spells out what the government can do. If you can’t find it in the Constitution, then the government cannot do it.
At least Obama is taking this all in stride.

One of the interersting things about the Hobby Lobby case is that the Supreme Court used a law written and supported by Democrats (Kennedy and Moynihan) and signed by Clinton. Now Scnumer (who authored the legislation) is complaining about the consequences of freedom of religion which he supported when Clinton was President. The fact is the government cannot compel me to violate my deeply held religious beliefs whether it be forcing me to subsidize abortions or smoke peyote. The Supreme Court decision is a win for freedom and liberty which all should celebrate.
Our founding fathers created a government in which freedom and liberty reigns. Hopefully we can keep it.

And that comment from a fellow who spent his employees taxes to the tune of $250,000. He has no credibility on the ethics and morality planes. Too funny.

My my. Such tasty treats this morning. I must defend my scared honor even though it is absolutely not necessary. But I shall sink down into the abyss and fill my boots with slime to meet my brethren from across the aisle half way.
I for one never posted the link about EPA employees defecating in the hallways. I could have, but my extreme self control prevented me. I used to have more self discipline, but now I refuse to be a slave to it.
Whoever leaked the national news about EPA employees pooping in the halls not once, not twice, but thrice must a whistle blower or someone that does enjoy stepping in a pile of Frisch. Or maybe one of those compulsive obsessive control freaks that come over here to straighten out the sandbox.
Now, whose that pooping in the halls? Someone from the Right? Some neo-con Nazi? Or some sicko that delights in showing others the sights and smells of fresh warm human debris in a pedestrian corridor (ain’t taking about Fattis Maximus in this case)?
Me thinks (I could be wrong) it must be some one who works for the EPA with a left on center bent. The world has gone mad. Now the EPA needs some Environmental Protection under its own roof. And they have the answers?
All other charges are true. Guilty as charged. I be the one. Me be a cyper-bully! Finally got a title to put before me name. Warms the cockles of me heart, as does taking a nice smooth movement when reading Mr. Frisch’s words of wisdom. Glad I got that off my bowels.

Hobby Lobby will still pay for Viagra. Let’s keep those women in their place, barefoot and pregnant. BTW, where’s my slippers and beer and what’s for dinner, bitch. Gee, I wonder why all the women justices voted against this? I wonder what would have been the result had their been one more woman on the court?

But Joe!! MY employer won’t buy my gun!! He’s spitting in the face of my 2ND Amendment rights! I’m a law abiding citizen, and have EVERY right to gun, but he’s not supplying me one!
Then there are those that work the night shift at the corner stop and rob. Those employers forbid the employee from having a gun on the job.
Their 2ND Amend. rights are also being violated.

Yeah but they probably would have been within their rights to not. Somehow I don’t believe that the howls of outrage would have been nearly so loud had this been the case!

Loud cheers for the misogynist right wing. It’s OK for me to get my pharmaceutical woody for free but if you women want to protect yourselves from woody’s onslaught you have to pay for that. Would Jesus even want a pharmaceutical woody?
Or how about this: You all will have to search your consciences for this one: It this really about religion or is it just another lame excuse to increase profit (by buying cheaper insurance for employees) at the expense of their employees? It will be interesting to see if Hobby Lobby (which I assume relies heavily on women customers) see a decrease in business over this.

“The proximate cause of all our woes is/
Civilizational apoptosis”—My Ling Gum, late Tang (or early Gatorade) Dynasty
In my role as chief social oncologist of the Republic (remember it?) I offer the following diagnostic snippets. Although the patient is dying, the disease remains of interest. Let us begin with the Secretary of State. A headline:
Kerry: ‘I’m Working Hard to … Have Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Ambassadors’
From a curmudgeonly point of view, this is wonderful. America is going to be represented abroad by a freak show. The country is going to hell, sissified neocon Tamerlanes in panties bankrupt us with brainless wars they don´t understand, the schools make us an international joke, but the Secretary of State rushes to fill the consulates with sexual abnormalities.
Washington begins to make a Weimar bordello look like Mormon Sunday school. I picture myself showing up at some embassy for an interview and being told, “The ambassador will be with you in a moment. Just now, he’s fucking a sheep.”
Male or female? The sheep, I mean. With the ambassador, it would probably be hard to tell.
I am losing track of the various weirdities whose tiny concerns and wounded vanities are now the chief concern of policy domestic and foreign. It used to be only homosexuals. Now we must reverence bisexuals, transsexuals, transgendered (what is the difference?), transvestites, sadomasochistic hobbyists, perhaps bisexual transsexual homosexuals, and so on. I often see initials like LBGT, which I at first understood to be a sandwich (Lettuce, Bacon, Tomato, Garlic….) Can bestiality be far behind (so to speak)?
What is an actual man like Vladimir Putin going to think of an American ambassadress when he knows that she has a surgically implanted silicone penis and a hairy chest from testosterone injections?
“Oh please, cut off my willy/
I know you think it’s silly/
But Sally wants a schlong/
Says she was born all wrong/
/o get me my bottle of Elmer’s Glu-u-u-ue….”
Excuse me. I am a frustrated Milton.
This is nuts. It is one thing, and a good thing, for a decent society to leave the sexually disturbed in peace, for the police not to harass homosexuals or raid known but discrete “gay” bars. (Though, if we can have homosexual bars in which the normal are not welcome, why can we not have normal bars in which homosexuals are not welcome? Can we not choose with whom we want to drink?) (No.) If discrete (that word again) sex shops deep in the city wants to sell motorized dildos, hig-fashion whips, and male chastity belts, well…the buyers do no harm to others. It is another thing to turn the whole damn country into Caligula’s bedroom.
Apparently the greatest transgression in America today is “homophobia.” The word is etymologically absurd as well as linguistically inaccurate, but these are concerns for the literate, who are rapidly going out of existence. “Homophobia” ought to mean “fear of homos,” but nobody is afraid of them, just tired of endlessly hearing about them. Go in peace, but go. Or just shut up.
Next we have the firing of the commander of the Navy’s Blue Angels precision-flying team. Why? Well, someone complained. These days, someone is always complaining. Anyway, says the Washington Post: “The complaint described an atmosphere rife with sexually explicit speech, the open display of pornography and jokes about sexual orientation.”
I nearly spewed coffee on my keyboard on reading this. Did some iddle-widdle person, or personette, get his, or her, or its, or to-be-determined, or some of each, knickers in a knot because…soldiers talk dirty? Did someone, some heartless, you know, male, make a joke about not bending over in the shower while Jim Bob was around? Oh, the heartlessness of these…Ohhhh! It makesth me want to hiss! And they look at dirty pictures of girls!
Clearly the only course is to recruit transgendered, bifurcate, cross-dressing and surgically modified fliers in a nonviolent military. We need compassionate fighter pilots, none of this horrible masculinist aggressiveness.
The military is rotten with this stuff. I maybe first noticed it perhaps twenty years ago when some girl Marine complained that she couldn’t keep up on morning runs, and it made her feel uncomfortable, or devalued, or unesteemed, or something. (It would have made me feel slow, but that’s much too straightforward.) I think she was a lieutenant, but she backed the commanding general down. The runs were abolished. The purpose of the military is to make women, incompetent minorities, and the sexually baroque feel good.
The generals know that putting girls in the military is a terrible idea, but they all belong to the Order of the Empty Jockstrap, and may well have a cocktail dress or two in a hidden corner of their closets. I have more respect for Third-World generals gorgeous as cockatoos in flashy uniforms with feathers. They at least have the courage of their corruption and do not pretend to be serious soldiers.
Next we have the browning of America, which has become a sort of geographic toaster-oven. The country is merging with Mexico, as hard as it can. It is an astonishing thing to do for no particular reason. Nobody can quite explain why. At the highest level, it makes sense: We have a black president and attorney general who do not like white people, whom they believe to have mistreated blacks. What sweeter revenge than to turn their country a nice mahogany color? And businessmen want cheap labor. But to drastically changes the nature and prospects of what was the world’s leading nation so that McDonald’s can have its burgers flipped at lesser cost—here is a marvel new under the sun. Countries deserve what they tolerate, and this one will tolerate anything. Except freedom of association or expression, or civilized levels of schooling.
Finally, we have criminalization of children. If a little boy points his finger and sys “Bang!” he is handcuffed by the police and dragged from school, to be subjected to psychiatry. This in the planet’s most militarily aggressive country, in which said little boy is constantly exposed to war movies and murderous video games. Dodge ball is violence, but join the Marines and be a man among men. Oh god, I said it. No. I mean be a transgendered transvestite caring person among persons.
What has gone wrong with the continental asylum? Dunno, but it’s a hell of a show. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Now let me get this straight. Hobby Lobby says the First Amendment covers their concerns and the left and the femi-nazis are crying “war on women”. And the “right to privacy” as Roe V Wade protects is not in the Constitution yet trumps? Hmmm. I guess this is a very confusing thing.
Also, if the “right to privacy” keeps anyone else out of the woman’s womb, why then do the taxpayers have to pay for placing a pharmaceutical into the women’s body? I though they had the absolute right to tell everyone else to stay the hell out! So JoeK, I am actually in agreement that the government should not tell anyone or any business they have to cover anything regarding my private body. Good call.
Oh, but I am not a misogynist JoeK. I love women, especially those at TSA stations. LOL!

“The Green family has no moral objection to the use of 16 of 20 preventive contraceptives required in the mandate, and Hobby Lobby will continue its longstanding practice of covering these preventive contraceptives for its employees. However, the Green family cannot provide or pay for four potentially life-threatening drugs and devices. These drugs include Plan B and Ella, the so-called morning-after pill and the week-after pill. Covering these drugs and devices would violate their deeply held religious belief that life begins at the moment of conception, when an egg is fertilized.”

So Joe,,, how many women need protection “from your woody”? ( my guess is,,, not many.)
Poor Joe has let his real issue out of the wrapper. “It’s OK for me to get my pharmaceutical woody for free”. Really Joe? You need to “BIG phama” to help out ” Little Joe”? A little more info than we needed to hear.
Since it appears you take the “little blue willy helper” tell us.. Is that 4 hour cat scratching post myth true? If so, tie the LIB flag to it and march proudly in front of the Democrat float in the next parade. It will go well with the ” Freedom FROM religion ” sign that’s always appears on the local Socialist Democrat party band wagon.
Now beware of “male enhancement ” mail order scams.(It will make you look bigger!) The last sucker got a magnifying glass in the mail, with the warning,” don’t use in direct sunlight.”
