[This is the transcript of my regular KVMR commentary broadcast on 28 February 2014.]

It is election season again, and, frankly, it is becoming so that election season has become a perennial pageant.  With the troubles of Obamacare, Benghazi, IRS political targetings, DoJ’s fast and furious selective enforcement of laws, militarizing of federal departments, the economy’s doldrums, foreign policy fiascoes, and no end in sight for deficits and borrowing, …, you’d think that the Republicans would enjoy and easy sail to November and beyond.  Not so.

By the way, if you haven’t heard about half of the preceding litany, then you’ve been too glued to the dying embers of outlets like MSNBC and CNN.

But back to business.  Last October the GOP had its head handed to it by the Democrats when both sides could not come to an agreement on the continuing resolution to appropriate budgetless funds in return for spending limits.  Remember that?  Team Obama was able to put the whole blame on the Right, and with the help of the lamestream media, Americans lapped it up hook, line, and sinker.  Led by Boehner, McConnel, and other luminaries of the Right, the mainstream Republicans slinked away from that encounter mumbling ‘Never Again’.

And just to prove that they had learned their lesson, enough House Republicans voted for the new but still cynically named ‘Farm Bill’ to let it fly through Congress without so much as a meaningful dent into the Democrats’ agenda.  The big hope of the Right was to maintain the possibility of separating food stamps from ag subsidies.  But the Democrats said ‘boo’, and showed Boehner a picture of his head on a platter from last October, and the 80% food stamps part of the farm bill was wedded to farm subsidies forever.

Well, it turns out that not everyone was ready to play the ‘you gotta go along to get along’ game.  The so-called Tea Party faction of the House continued to spout conservative principles and oppose the Republican leadership.  Led by freshman Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, we heard Republicans start saying some mean things about other Republicans, and a whole bunch of primaries this spring will see some serious scrapping between the ‘get along’ and the ‘not any more’ wings of the party.

So what is the ‘get along’ gang’s plan forward?  The best that one can tell is that they have adopted the ‘make no waves’ policy in Congress, believing that being on good behavior will maybe get them a pat on the head from the Democrats.  The big thought seems to be that we’ll lay low until we can get veto proof majorities into both houses of Congress, and then suddenly we’ll hoist our principles up the flag pole again.  Boy, that would sure surprise them liberals!

On the other hand, the Tea Party faction’s plan seems to be ‘Damn the Democrats, if we have to go down, we’re going down with our principles.’  Their long term thinking is that if the Democrats are loudly opposed as they implement heavier doses of socialism – more regulations, higher taxes, redistribution of wealth, income equality – you know the drill; then the country will hit the skids and people in the bread lines will abandon progressivism and vote in the Republicans, who will promptly point the way to the shining city on the hill.  In short, the Tea Partiers are saying to fellow Republicans, we gotta take her all the way down before we can start the climb back up.  The Democrats, of course, are delighted.

This coming Monday night you have a chance to hear all this in person at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.  There the Nevada County Tea Party is sponsoring an evening with Pastor Rafael Cruz, Senator Ted’s dad and number one fan.  The event will be held in Ponderosa Hall 6:30 – 9 PM.  These meetings are always well attended and fun, and you can even bring your own questions for the good pastor.  More information is available on the NC Tea Party website, and, of course also on Rebane’s Ruminations.

My name is Rebane, and I also expand on this and related themes on NCTV and georgerebane.com where the transcript of this commentary is posted with relevant links, and where such issues are debated extensively.  However my views are not necessarily shared by KVMR.  Thank you for listening.

[Addendum]  The comment stream below again corroborates the one-sided attempt from the Left to silence any and all media voices from the Right, especially those they consider effective in exposing audiences to viewpoints that are diverse and differ from their own.  On KVMR mine is a commentary invited by the station’s Board and management; although afforded a bi-weekly slot on the evening news, it is clearly introduced as a commentary that purports to offer only my views on subjects I select that may be of interest to KVMR’s audience.  I am a volunteer, as are so many others at the station, and Jo Ann and I also support that non-profit community outlet.  I am grateful to be the station’s lone conservative commentator, and in these past years I have continued in those efforts solely at the pleasure of the station’s Board and management.

(Mr Marc Cuniberti on KVMR focuses on financial news and advice.  However, I am told that his counsel seeps of sufficient capitalism and constitutionalism at times to also raise the ire of the same intolerant collectivist voices in the community.)

But from a broader view, in our national forum the Left enjoys a distinct advantage in the public’s mind by its ability to disguise and deny the constant din of its ideological promotions.  These come under the guise of social good and public benefits, and are presented in the form of events, forums, exhibits, shows, concerts, workgroups, festivals, etc sponsored by leftwing organizations with ‘pro bono’ names like ‘Save the xx’, ‘Friends of the xx’, ‘People for xx’, ‘Stop the xx’, … .  In promoting these gatherings, the lamestream media never identify the ideological message and the prescriptions for achieving their common goals, which always invite larger government, higher taxes and fees, ever more encompassing controls and regulations, the mandated altruistic surrender of individual liberties (oxymoron recognized), and the glorification of this or that collective.  None of these activities nor their media promotions are deemed by the Left as furthering their ideology.

Closer to home, KVMR is an admittedly left-leaning voice.  Its editorial content espouses collectivist causes throughout its broadcast day, including more extended programming – some lasting an hour – that blatantly promote progressive ideals and causes.  My lonely conservetarian voice makes up about 0.002% of its air time.

Finally, my own hope is for KVMR to some day become an outlet for more diverse ideological content that better reflects the political make-up of the community it serves.  In spite of that, I would never criticize KVMR’s right to continue promoting the worldview of its Board, management, volunteer staff, and the sponsors who pay its bills.

[3mar14 update]  We attended the Nevada County Tea Party gathering tonight in Ponderosa Hall at the fairgrounds.  It was a soldout event with over 300 people attending, some driving quite a distance on a rainy day from other northern California counties.  The featured speakers were TP co-founder Mark Meckler (currently with Citizens for Self-Governance), Republican candidate for governor Tim Connelly, and, of course, Pastor Rafael Cruz.

The event was organized by the NCTP leadership that included Nancy (past NCTP president) and Eddie Garcia who hosted Pastor Cruz’s stay in the county.   We arrived a bit early and I was fortunate to be introduced by Nancy to Pastor Cruz.  The Pastor and I had a chance to chat a bit, and the three of us had our picture taken by a friend.

Cruz_TP3mar14
Mark gave a short talk updating his activities to warm up the crowd.  Then Tim Connelly, whom I had not heard before, talked to us about the state of California’s economy, drought, and what was required to stop the outflow and repatriate lost businesses.  He is a good speaker, energetic and very knowledgeable about California.  Nevertheless, he has a hard road ahead to beat Jerry Brown going for his victory lap.

The main event was the barn-burner delivered by Pastor Cruz.  His was a story that celebrated America’s founding glory, diagnosed and mourned its current departure from what made us great, and prescribed a path of redemption and return that centered on getting the Christian community off its collective ass and into the voting booths.  The sad statistic that he focused on was that only about half the nation’s Christians (Protestants and Catholics) are registered to vote, and half of those registered actually do vote.  He put the lion’s share of the blame on the Christian clergy who eschew political issues and “hide behind their 501c3 pulpits.”

After his long and comprehensive talk, filled with citations from our founding documents and the Bible, Pastor Cruz answered questions from the audience.  The man is a refugee from communist Cuba, sharp as a nail, and has energy to burn in taking his message across the country to meetings like ours and to numerous pastors’ conferences where he excoriates his colleagues and does his best to light a fire under them.

Rebane thinks people want to silence his “voice,” because he goes on the KVMR Evening News to advertise a tea party gathering. This is a theme of his: quashing his “First Amendment rights.” No, I want George and KVMR to show better judgment and discretion and advertise their political gatherings on a show. What makes George “special” compared to all the other local KVMR volunteer programmers, who have a show? I’m beginning to wonder about this. I’d like KVMR to develop some guidelines for its News Hour vs. its shows.

JeffP, you can actually go purchase a FM bandwidth now and start your pwn radio shows. Then you can tell everyone how important you are over your own airwaves!
Now, back to your 2:18 PM denigrating and childish comments about George. Let me see. While you were in diapers and being fed by the silver spoon of pablum, George was in the military protecting your freedom that you so want to curtail now. Same with Russ and same with Paul Emery. You should shut your trap before you have alienated all the folks of our fair county. But you won’t, you are the most important thing in your life. What a waste.

“something vaguely substantive.” OMG. The lightbulb is going off!
Comparing politician Ted Cruz to “Grandpa” is not the same as the vitriol expressed here.
There’s also a big difference between advertising a tea-party gathering on the KVMR News Hour and a show.

You’re right. This group will never “own” up to anything. It’s like talking to a “troll.” LOL. I will draft a letter to the KVMR board and development director. George should have a voice on KVMR, just like anybody. But advertising a political gathering on the News Hour crosses a line. Again what makes George “special”?

Before you slink away to pen your letter perhaps you would indulge me as to your obsession over peoples names? Surely a CNet veteran like yourself knows a little sumpin, sumpin about internet comment threads and how a degree of anonymity fosters debate. Sure it’s not the safe tepid debate that you prefer but I’m sure that someone as well educated (Cal, Northwestern) as yourself is aware of the historical requirements for getting ideas out there with fear of reprisal.

Nice addendum, Dr. Rebane. Dr. Rebane is not saying anybody is trying to silence him. Never has once for those that read the white on the page instead of the black. I am saying one poster here does the Scanners thang everytime George is given a voice on a tiny, tiny FM band radio station. Well, at least one person is listening to Dr. Rebane’s commentaries.
Dr. Rebane’s big sin? Oh, yeah, informing people of a Tea Party event that he will be attending. OMG, call the Governor! Bring out the National Guard and haul Dr. Rebane and his gracious wife to the Tree of Woe. Sting him up and rip out his entrails while he is still sucking your air.
I, too, have noticed that Mr Marc Cuniberti takes some flack. I read his commentaries and thoughts on the economy on some local free newspaper found all around Penn Valley. Mostly the paper is all about Sutter/Yuba County news and always publishes their local Tea Party events. Since I can see the Sutter Buttes unobstructed out the back deck, I figure I need to stay abreast of events. Always with the free newspaper one can find stacks of a great fantastic magazine about Sierra Dining and Events. Nice glossy free mag out of Auburn I believe. Covers a large area, including Nevada County. Very thorough, classy, informative, and professional, but I digress again. I like Mr. Marc Cuniberti’s ideas and infor, but I am into 100% low cost no fee index funds, not a stock market swapper.
Now, I am really going off topic. Well, Mr. Marc Cuniberti was my window of opportunity to off topic. Cal-Pers announced that is it going to move into low cost no fee index funds. Why pay all that money to beat the market when you can kick back, surf the web for porn and match the market for the same pay. My strategy for a few years now. Welcome to the club Cal-Pers.

I know Jeff Pelline has lied in the past for argument’s sake, and there’s no reason to decide this can’t be a lie, either. Jeff also knows I can prove this assertion so I have no expectation I’ll hear from his lawyer.
Jeff, you are a liar, although “thrive” is a loose term. One can be said to be thriving if there’s a business plan that expects to lose money for 10 years and one has only been losing money for 5.
Back to the George’s piece that has Pelline’s panties in a knot, George’s opinion pieces have been in the same slot for quite a while, no? Why is Jeff so pissed that he chose to mention a local event that George thinks is important? Personally, I think the Cruz’s are a big mistake for the GOP and Dem’s interested in winning in November would be wise to let the Rebanes cheer them on.

Mr. Gregory, I won’t not be too harsh on Mr. Pelline’s last statement. Although I have never read Mr. Pelline’s magazine nor frequent his blog, one can only imagine that that magazine business is a lot of work, effort, and time involved. I hate cold sales and getting advertisers cannot be a pleasant experience. Whether the magazine is profitable or not, I hold fast to the idea that all work has value. If the magazine is not profitable, then it is in good company of a lot of periodicals and print media currently. If not profitable, then it may be in the future. Any business has its ups and downs and at least Mr. Pelline is following his dreams.
I sat in the house of the deceased Max Foster on 3 occasions when he was still alive. A modest house he built long ago. 850 square feet, the house he died in. He went belly up peddling eggs out of the back of his pickup in 1948. Bankrupt. Before he died, he was a billionaire. Had the largest privately owned fleet of trucks in America. Owned hillsides of land where he grew his grain in Colorado and had his own railroad bring in the grain to feed his chickens in California. Engine had a big egg painted on it. He grew tired of chickens and started a cottage cheese plant. Dairy items and ice cream and even jugs of water. Max Foster of Foster Farms. Even if he went belly up again (he didn’t), he would get up every morning at 5am, put on his coveralls, drive his pick up to his cottage cheese plant and nurse that baby. Looked like a custodian or maintenance worker. Did everything on a handshake. I never signed any papers and he paid my bill promptly.
Don’t really care if a magazine is profitable or not as long as its his passion. Some make it, most fail. The American Dream is not just for us rugged individualists. Is for everybody, even Mr. Pelline the resentful.

The second image is spot on; the whole “politically correct” movement that has now replaced university free speech with censorship of anything but progressive thought that won’t upset any group they deem protected.
The list of people Jeff claims I’ve wronged rhetorically are all folks who, at one time or another, have gone ballistic at my arguments contrary to the fake consensus of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming. Jeffie even spent an entire post (I shared it recently) calling me a “Boob” for not seeing the storm du jour, the weather of the day, as evidence cAGW is real.
Jeff apparently believes any bad weather is caused by CO2 emissions. Hot or cold, wet or dry, breezy or calm.
There was an interesting OP-ED in the WSJ recently on the subject of AGW politics, here’s the opening:
“Surely, some kind of ending is upon us. Last week climate protesters demanded the silencing of Charles Krauthammer for a Washington Post column that notices uncertainties in the global warming hypothesis. In coming weeks a libel trial gets under way brought by Penn State’s Michael Mann, author of the famed hockey stick, against National Review, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, writer Rand Simberg and roving commentator Mark Steyn for making wisecracks about his climate work. The New York Times runs a cartoon of a climate “denier” being stabbed with an icicle.
These are indications of a political movement turned to defending its self-image as its cause goes down the drain.”

Google “Jenkins: Personal Score-Settling Is the New Climate Agenda”
We also had that scientific great John Kerry reiterating the hard line a few days ago, and John Holdren, the prez’s science advisor, defaming IPCC author Dr. Roger Pielke, Jr., who testified to Congress recently, as being “out of the mainstream”. Pielke’s response is here:
    http://rogerpielkejr.blogspot.com/2014/03/john-holdrens-epic-fail.html
It’s going to get uglier as time to November counts down. The season is upon us, and his Purpleness is going to be working overtime to marginalize and delegitimize the people he loves to hate.

    Checking, Pelline’s latest, titled ”

A lovely lass who is having a hard time speaking her mind with that tape over her mouth.
The FUE then rants, stating “Does KVMR condone this? What do KVMR’s customers (readers and advertisers) think? Does George moderate his blog? What are his standards?”
Jeff, do you understand the young lady in the photo is a stand-in for folks who often agree with the Rebanes of the world, the impediment to her speech was slapped over her mouth by people like you, and you’re asking KVMR to do just that to Rebane?

I don’t know about any other parent here, but I’m pretty sure my kid was never instructed to lie about an absence reason, nor ever taken out of school just for a fun family outing. In fact, I think the only time he was allowed to skip school besides his illness was when his mom was dying at home under hospice care and he was adamant he wasn’t going to school. Skipped about a month and Mt.St.Mary’s knew just where he was, and why. Still graduated two years later with the math and science medals, promoted out of the 8th grade with algebra and geometry so there didn’t seem to be any lasting ill effects on his academic progress.

I say “ears” cause the closed minded intolerant liberals never open their eyes and are most content to live with contempt prior to investigation.
This may be on topic for once, concerning spending and debt. Maybe, maybe not.

More from Ben “the conscience of a nation” Emery.
Straight from the horses mouth is a great way for people to hear a small minority point of view, racist comments and all.
You couldn’t/wouldn’t back up your FASCIST/CORPORATIST/AUTHORITARIAN charges……nor can you back up this. Now that you’re off your feet (Please though….get better soon) you should have plenty of time to document your accusations.

WOW, sounds like fireworks at the event! Packed crowd. That is to be excepted of course, per normal. The small “tiny” minority gathered together and refused to go off to hide under the rocks waiting for the Grim Reaper and be silenced.
Fish, forget about Brother BM for the moment. Racists? Hey, sometimes I give them what they want to hear after toying with them for awhile. Strike that. Most times. Then they run off in glee and gloat that they found proof and delight in their “gotcha” moment of glory. Figure it is funny to see them run pack to their tree fort and hop on the keyboards. Hey Brother Ben, I am a racist, sexist, bigoted, card carrying member of The Flat Earth Society. And the Good Lord gave me long arms so include knuckle dragger. But I ain’t no homophobic. To be candid, I am one of those buy-sexual types you read about. At my age if I want sex I buy it. Misogynist? Oui? Can’t even pronounce that highfaluting newfangled word. Have to have the girls (daughters) explain that one to me or the housemaid I keep with the pool boys down in the basement. Gawd, you would think they would keep the dungeon cleaner and eat up all the rats by now. Hard to find good indentured servants nowadays.

I rather doubt that this is emotionally healthy…..the enabling of so much unearned self righteousness. Well maybe it inspires Ben to recover more rapidly….

Mr. Fish, good point there I have not considered. Enabling is not healthy for the enabler nor the enablee. Hmmm, what to do, what to do? But….but…but…they are so little and vulnerable and so cute. Plus, they need our help with their broken thinker syndrome. Its not their fault they were born white. Its just so hard for me to walk away when their sad little eyes are looking at me with their button noses pressed against the window.
This is going to be tough. No is a complete sentence and all that stuff. But they are so helpless. Alas, what to do?

Mr. Fish, The Spoon comes here now and then and throws a few jabs hoping somebody will slip up so he can run his fat meat hooks across the keyboard and post Dr. Rebane’s many sins….Dr. Rebane’s main sin is not giving me the boot long ago. 🙂
He was just hanging out here too long. Of course he twisted everything. He was getting irked that I kept saying “waddle” and I finally changed the Door’s song to “no time to waddle in the mire” instead of wallow in the mire. Of course his readers cannot have access to both pics I posted, just the latter one. That is how a person with evil intent operates. But, he can’t get to me because I know his kind.
The Spoon used to toss about the possibility of libel suits and other such ridiculous nonsense. He was collecting his files alright. Building big dossiers on us slanderous extremists, or claiming to do so. So, I said (paraphrase), just CALL him a fat tub of lard and he will have to sue and prove in court he is not a fat tub of lard.
Just wish he could let things go. Harboring such resentment and egomania competitiveness is not normal nor healthy. The Spoon simply does not have enough tools in his kit, mainly the needed tools of forgiveness, overcoming resentments, anger management over butt hurt feelings, and handling slights, real, perceived, or imagined.
Resentment means to “re-feel”, and every time Dr. Rebane speaks on the air instead of him, he feels it all over again and again and again. Hey! I got the scoop on the story, not YOU! Hey, pick me, pick me!!! We all like to be recognized and have a degree of prestige, but The Spoon never learned respect is earned, not given. He never learned so much. His toolbox is half full. Sad, sad, pathetic story. But, like all of us, The Spoon is not all evil or 100% Polly Purebread.
Personally, I (not being a devote religious man) found wisdom in King Salomon’s Proverbs or whoever wrote it. I love the passage “It is to a man’s honor to overlook a slight.” Much freedom in that sentence. Much wisdom and a key to human relations, IMHO.

George wears a cloak of ‘intellectualism’ while possessing the most anti-intellectual character traits imaginable. He empowers bullies, allows and engages in personal attacks, ignores facts and evidence that do not support his ideology, misrepresents science to advance his ideology, and belittles people who possess a different point of view or unpopular physical traits. George embraces the stance of the populist against the academic and political ‘elites’ and fancies himself a champion of the average Joe, as a means of advancing his ideology.
Mr. Frisch taking the high road over at Pellines…….just what is your true ideology George….apparently Steve thinks that there is some hidden nefarious goal behind letting us rant here.
Oh how cruelly you have manipulated us all!
    Still it’s an argument.
The personal attacks on Jeff shows the character we are dealing with over at the authoritarian fascist/ corporatist blog and other right wing blogs.
While poor Ben merely repeats his college dorm room bull session chants.
Racist…Sexist….Anti Gay….George and his Fab Five minions go away………!

fish 854am – I believe you’d be hard put to find another blog whose publisher has so explicitly revealed his credo as have I on RR. What a lot of people (most certainly of the liberal persuasion) have problems with is considering a corpus of output; they demand that what they can consume at the moment must answer all questions and concerns as if it were the only dissertation on the subject. My social, political, economic, technological, and even religious beliefs have been laid bare in these pages over the last seven years. I am long past debating with people who keep asking the same answered questions over and over again. The paucity of my detractors’ arguments lies mainly in their inability to use my own words against me, and instead harangue me for the absence of such explanations in every post, or worse, substituting their own ‘I know what he was really thinking’ interpretations.
Besides disclosures like the Bastiat Triangle, Glossary & Semantics, and numerous posts listing specific tenets of belief and recommended policies, I attempt to define newly introduced terms and concepts as operationally as possible at every turn. Yet your implied question has merit, perhaps it’s time for a new compendium of a conservetarian credo that is always available in the top right sidebar.
Finally, as I’ve said before, RR is not meant to be an easy blog for a wide readership. I’m too lazy to make it so, and therefore write only for the discerning reader. I like to imagine that those who take seriously the ideas presented here are people with whom I would enjoy spending a few hours with a glass of wine in hand. This itself gives rise to a self-selection of both readers and commenters. As you can see, these come in all ideological flavors and in this microcosm reflect and illustrate the state of our nation (world?). Let me give the ‘conservetarian credo’ notion a bit more thought, and thanks for collecting those comments from other blogs.

Steve Frisch and his ilk on the left are very warped in their logic about “slights”. They have no problem calling their opponents all kinds of denigrating names, fascists, extremists, etc., yet het their panties in a wad when they are called out on their physical appearance. That is why I don’t care about their outrage. Is it better or worse to defame a person’s intelligence or their appearance?

defamation is defamation regardless of what form it takes. When that becomes the argument of last resort it means you really don’t have anything worthwhile to say.
