[This is the transcript of my regular KVMR commentary broadcast on 28 February 2014.]

It is election season again, and, frankly, it is becoming so that election season has become a perennial pageant.  With the troubles of Obamacare, Benghazi, IRS political targetings, DoJ’s fast and furious selective enforcement of laws, militarizing of federal departments, the economy’s doldrums, foreign policy fiascoes, and no end in sight for deficits and borrowing, …, you’d think that the Republicans would enjoy and easy sail to November and beyond.  Not so.

By the way, if you haven’t heard about half of the preceding litany, then you’ve been too glued to the dying embers of outlets like MSNBC and CNN.

But back to business.  Last October the GOP had its head handed to it by the Democrats when both sides could not come to an agreement on the continuing resolution to appropriate budgetless funds in return for spending limits.  Remember that?  Team Obama was able to put the whole blame on the Right, and with the help of the lamestream media, Americans lapped it up hook, line, and sinker.  Led by Boehner, McConnel, and other luminaries of the Right, the mainstream Republicans slinked away from that encounter mumbling ‘Never Again’.

And just to prove that they had learned their lesson, enough House Republicans voted for the new but still cynically named ‘Farm Bill’ to let it fly through Congress without so much as a meaningful dent into the Democrats’ agenda.  The big hope of the Right was to maintain the possibility of separating food stamps from ag subsidies.  But the Democrats said ‘boo’, and showed Boehner a picture of his head on a platter from last October, and the 80% food stamps part of the farm bill was wedded to farm subsidies forever.

Well, it turns out that not everyone was ready to play the ‘you gotta go along to get along’ game.  The so-called Tea Party faction of the House continued to spout conservative principles and oppose the Republican leadership.  Led by freshman Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, we heard Republicans start saying some mean things about other Republicans, and a whole bunch of primaries this spring will see some serious scrapping between the ‘get along’ and the ‘not any more’ wings of the party.

So what is the ‘get along’ gang’s plan forward?  The best that one can tell is that they have adopted the ‘make no waves’ policy in Congress, believing that being on good behavior will maybe get them a pat on the head from the Democrats.  The big thought seems to be that we’ll lay low until we can get veto proof majorities into both houses of Congress, and then suddenly we’ll hoist our principles up the flag pole again.  Boy, that would sure surprise them liberals!

On the other hand, the Tea Party faction’s plan seems to be ‘Damn the Democrats, if we have to go down, we’re going down with our principles.’  Their long term thinking is that if the Democrats are loudly opposed as they implement heavier doses of socialism – more regulations, higher taxes, redistribution of wealth, income equality – you know the drill; then the country will hit the skids and people in the bread lines will abandon progressivism and vote in the Republicans, who will promptly point the way to the shining city on the hill.  In short, the Tea Partiers are saying to fellow Republicans, we gotta take her all the way down before we can start the climb back up.  The Democrats, of course, are delighted.

This coming Monday night you have a chance to hear all this in person at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.  There the Nevada County Tea Party is sponsoring an evening with Pastor Rafael Cruz, Senator Ted’s dad and number one fan.  The event will be held in Ponderosa Hall 6:30 – 9 PM.  These meetings are always well attended and fun, and you can even bring your own questions for the good pastor.  More information is available on the NC Tea Party website, and, of course also on Rebane’s Ruminations.

My name is Rebane, and I also expand on this and related themes on NCTV and georgerebane.com where the transcript of this commentary is posted with relevant links, and where such issues are debated extensively.  However my views are not necessarily shared by KVMR.  Thank you for listening.

[Addendum]  The comment stream below again corroborates the one-sided attempt from the Left to silence any and all media voices from the Right, especially those they consider effective in exposing audiences to viewpoints that are diverse and differ from their own.  On KVMR mine is a commentary invited by the station’s Board and management; although afforded a bi-weekly slot on the evening news, it is clearly introduced as a commentary that purports to offer only my views on subjects I select that may be of interest to KVMR’s audience.  I am a volunteer, as are so many others at the station, and Jo Ann and I also support that non-profit community outlet.  I am grateful to be the station’s lone conservative commentator, and in these past years I have continued in those efforts solely at the pleasure of the station’s Board and management.

(Mr Marc Cuniberti on KVMR focuses on financial news and advice.  However, I am told that his counsel seeps of sufficient capitalism and constitutionalism at times to also raise the ire of the same intolerant collectivist voices in the community.)

But from a broader view, in our national forum the Left enjoys a distinct advantage in the public’s mind by its ability to disguise and deny the constant din of its ideological promotions.  These come under the guise of social good and public benefits, and are presented in the form of events, forums, exhibits, shows, concerts, workgroups, festivals, etc sponsored by leftwing organizations with ‘pro bono’ names like ‘Save the xx’, ‘Friends of the xx’, ‘People for xx’, ‘Stop the xx’, … .  In promoting these gatherings, the lamestream media never identify the ideological message and the prescriptions for achieving their common goals, which always invite larger government, higher taxes and fees, ever more encompassing controls and regulations, the mandated altruistic surrender of individual liberties (oxymoron recognized), and the glorification of this or that collective.  None of these activities nor their media promotions are deemed by the Left as furthering their ideology.

Closer to home, KVMR is an admittedly left-leaning voice.  Its editorial content espouses collectivist causes throughout its broadcast day, including more extended programming – some lasting an hour – that blatantly promote progressive ideals and causes.  My lonely conservetarian voice makes up about 0.002% of its air time.

Finally, my own hope is for KVMR to some day become an outlet for more diverse ideological content that better reflects the political make-up of the community it serves.  In spite of that, I would never criticize KVMR’s right to continue promoting the worldview of its Board, management, volunteer staff, and the sponsors who pay its bills.

[3mar14 update]  We attended the Nevada County Tea Party gathering tonight in Ponderosa Hall at the fairgrounds.  It was a soldout event with over 300 people attending, some driving quite a distance on a rainy day from other northern California counties.  The featured speakers were TP co-founder Mark Meckler (currently with Citizens for Self-Governance), Republican candidate for governor Tim Connelly, and, of course, Pastor Rafael Cruz.

The event was organized by the NCTP leadership that included Nancy (past NCTP president) and Eddie Garcia who hosted Pastor Cruz’s stay in the county.   We arrived a bit early and I was fortunate to be introduced by Nancy to Pastor Cruz.  The Pastor and I had a chance to chat a bit, and the three of us had our picture taken by a friend.

Cruz_TP3mar14
Mark gave a short talk updating his activities to warm up the crowd.  Then Tim Connelly, whom I had not heard before, talked to us about the state of California’s economy, drought, and what was required to stop the outflow and repatriate lost businesses.  He is a good speaker, energetic and very knowledgeable about California.  Nevertheless, he has a hard road ahead to beat Jerry Brown going for his victory lap.

The main event was the barn-burner delivered by Pastor Cruz.  His was a story that celebrated America’s founding glory, diagnosed and mourned its current departure from what made us great, and prescribed a path of redemption and return that centered on getting the Christian community off its collective ass and into the voting booths.  The sad statistic that he focused on was that only about half the nation’s Christians (Protestants and Catholics) are registered to vote, and half of those registered actually do vote.  He put the lion’s share of the blame on the Christian clergy who eschew political issues and “hide behind their 501c3 pulpits.”

After his long and comprehensive talk, filled with citations from our founding documents and the Bible, Pastor Cruz answered questions from the audience.  The man is a refugee from communist Cuba, sharp as a nail, and has energy to burn in taking his message across the country to meetings like ours and to numerous pastors’ conferences where he excoriates his colleagues and does his best to light a fire under them.

Does KVMR think it can pay for its expanded offices when it runs this B.S. on its news hour, complete with a plug for Pastor Ruiz? Memo to KVMR board: Enough with the comments on this blog, let’s compare notes in a few months.

Very good George. I wish good things for the event. It appears the flatlander blogger is not too happy though. Watch out. Oh, I posted some corrections on his blog an he exercised his rights to boot them. But that is him, and you are you. His ridiculous musings here will not be booted. He is simply a common type dictator. No one is allowed to disagree.
Regarding KVMR being attacked by the FUE. Isn’t that precious? He allows every nutball socialist to post on his blog but complains when the Un ion, KNCO and now KVMR allow a retired military man to speak his piece. What a guy that FUE. Thank God that is his title!

Thanks George. Also, it was very nice to see you tonight, as it has been a while. I don’t think that limiting speech in a free society is the way to go. This experiment in democracy has succeeded based upon the free flow of ideas…an idea in itself that our local leftists and their leader (Cartman/Pelline) are determined to trash. Thank you also to KVMR for promoting the ideals of free speech which have made this country great.

Barry and Todd do not speak for the community, not by a longshot. Nor did they or ever or will they contribute a dime to KVMR. Or could they even afford it. The KVMR board needs to think more deeply about letting George Rebane spout his endless stream of B.S. on the KVMR news hour. Watch. And wait.

If Paul wants a check, all he has to do is call me. The vast majority of the community supports free speech. While I may disagree with points of view expressed in The Union or KVMR, I will fight until my last breath for their right to say it. A free society can work in no other way. Kudos to KVMR for standing up for such lofty and elegant ideals.

Maybe Russia is more suited to Pelline’s proclivities than Nevada County. Pravda is probably hiring. Have a wonderful weekend stewing over why KVMR is airing free speech…

The best that one can tell is that they have adopted the ‘make no waves’ policy in Congress, believing that being on good behavior will maybe get them a pat on the head from the Democrats.” -GR
That “one” has it all wrong. It isn’t about getting a pat on the head from Democrats, but rather not getting the unwashed middle pissed off at Republicans for “shutting down the government” which is all they’d hear from now until November. It’s the swing voters who are in play and, unless the GOP blows it, they may well give the GOP the Senate in Jan 2015.
“Barry and Todd do not speak for the community, not by a longshot. Nor did they or ever or will they contribute a dime to KVMR” -the FUE (aka Fat and Furious)
Barry, Todd and George speak for themselves, and Jeff, that’s all you speak for, too. Yourself. If you want to speak for the community, run for Mayor, Supervisor, city council. Something. Barring that, maybe even publish a real magazine, something people are willing to pay for, if only a quarter or two. Todd ran and won a significant office. Barry ran and lost and you give him nothing but abuse about it but think of it this way: every vote Pruett got was more than any vote Jeff Pelline got at the ballot box.
Put your money where your mouth is, Jeff. Fancy being a County Supervisor or, gasp! a Nevada City councilcritter. Maybe mayor someday. Mayor Pelline. How does that sound?
I hear “preposterous” being whispered, and they’re probably right. A Pelline run for anything would also inevitably be compared to Pruett’s result. How do you think you would do compared to Barry for any elected office, Jeff?

I think the FUE has shoen everyone here why he is the FUE. As a flatlander of short tenure I would expect his ignorance in the value of the people here. Perhaps he should go recline his carcass at the “boardwalk” and pose as the “thinker”. Pondering his ways.
I watched the NCTV and the folks who testified about the “boardwalk” he so dearly loves. Yet, I saw not one thing about what Greg Cook said regarding his desire to see the thing go. The FUE, AKA, the “flatlander” wrote not a smidgen in his rag about Greg’s comments. Now wouldn’t the owner of the Friat Tuck’s get a note? I guess he may not buy ads in the FUE’s mag-rag so he gets nothing? But the worm farmer using taxpayer money gets praises.
Regarding representing anyone. I represent myself and no one else. I do have many people who like me though. Perhaps being the FUE is a lonely life. Try and be nice and people may take to you. I did once have the privilege of serving the people and I am grateful. As far as donations. I noticed the FUE mentioned he was part of a 1.3 billion dollar sale of a biz to CBS? Well la-de-da. I guess the “silver spoon” got turned into a gold one. I did not see his carcass at the Red Light Ball so I guess based on the FUE’s way of thinking, he does not support the cops or the firemen.
You are a sad sack FUE. You are an angry bitter man and you were that way long before you came and polluted the County of Nevada with your hate. I will pray for you.

re Gregory’s 959pm – That “it’s the swing voters who are in play” is a longstanding tautology, oft referenced on these pages. For some years now the electorate has been around R:D:I=30:30:40, so it isn’t rocket science to conclude that both sides need to appeal to the independents. What my commentary tried to point out is that today Republicans perceive the Democrats (including their leftwing lamestream) to be the gatekeepers to Independents’ attitudes. This assessment has a reasonable basis given the events since 2006. It is for that reason that Repubs are sensitive to ire of the Dems in Congress. Apologies that this wasn’t clear from my short commentary.

Batty, what is so funny about the FUE’s views here is he never attends the functions where there are hundreds of people. Does he have a phobia? Anyway, I see you, George and Russ and hundreds of others out at functions that raise lots of money for military folks and there families and others. Never see the rich guy at them. It is my experience that you, Barry, and your wife Kim are very well liked and many people consider you friends. I am also honored that many say the same for me here. What is fascinating though is how so many people dislike the Pelline. If he traveled outside the front room he would be greatly disappointed at how he is perceived so negatively.

We are the main sponsors of the Foothills Celebration in Grass Valley today, along with Tri Counties Bank. Tonight, we are going to the Cioppino Feed fundraiser at the Fairgrounds. We have many friends and business contacts in the community. We are happy, successful and thriving — in our business and our personal lives. On a personal note, I have been happily married for more than 20 years. Our son is a straight-A student with a diverse group of friends. This ongoing attempt of you to belittle my life because you disagree with my views is getting old. You also open up scrutiny to your own life, faith, integrity, business success, which is a real “can of worms,” judging from your behavior.

The Nevada County Cartman has posted the six craziest quotes by Rafael Cruz, via The Daily Beast, which is a left wing blog. Once you get past the inflaming headlines on the quotes, I find that I can agree with most of the good Pastor views on government. These quotes were spread over many years, and one is left wondering what were the words in between that riled the Daily Beast and the other lefties, like the Cartman. Looking forward hearing those in between words.

George, the ability of the press to blame the GOP for a Democratic President refusing to sign a GOP budget goes back to the tarring of Gingrich circa ’95. It isn’t a tautology. In this case, there was absolutely no chance of winning the fight Cruz wanted to fight. Zero. Not even a Pyhrric victory would have been in the cards. All it would have done is possibly destroy the GOP’s chances to take the Senate elections next November which right now look pretty damn good. Contested states are going to see “If you like your insurance you can keep your insurance” over and over, and not blather about fighting the GOP to get them to reopen the national parks and cemeteries and feed the starving.
This was not the time for the fight, as the basic arithmetic remains GOP 1 (the Speakership) and the Dems 2 (Senate and Presidency). Elections have consequences, and Senate elections take three cycles to clean up. Cruz steered them to the fight last fall. Didn’t work. Patience, grasshopper.

First, the “Tea Party” is not trying to get anyone elected. The campaign forums are designed to educate voters on candidates. Nothing more, nothing less. Had Pelline actually attended he would have known applause were handed out quite evenly.
Second and in the context of education, ten times the amount of observers attend the TP forums as opposed to the local League.
Good for the League doing forums too. The more speech the better.

As we can read the FUE, the flatlander, has quite the thin skin. Anyone who does not believe in the radical leftwing ideals of the fellow is a target of his, self described “personal blog”. And of course, he threatens all who disagree. The house he lives in is made of glass yet he throws stones at everyone and makes excuses no one believes. In all the years I have attended functions here, I have never seen him at one. He is too large to miss so he must be fibbing.

Jeff is at best a “sham.” He speaks of his business thriving, yet as I mentioned before, in past issues of his blog, he ran unauthorized and outdated ads in his magazine to bolster his page count. He mentions that he is a “major sponsor” of the Foothills Celebration event, similar in Scope to Tri-Counties. But the truth is that his money is not where his mouth is, as he probably just donated empty space in his magazine to the cause, rather than a significant monetary donation that Tri-Counties ponied up. His approach is hypocritical at best, as he slanders Dr. Rebane for voicing his viewpoints, while simultaneously attacking our aging demographic, whom support the grand majority of our local businesses that actually “employ” people. I also find it ludicrous that he views conservative viewpoints as extreme. I raise a family of four on a strict budget, I guess it makes me extreme to expect city, state, and federal governments to do the same. Jeff’s sage advice is misleading, not all of us millenials raising children want to leave a broken America to our future generations. Obama’s progressive nature may fool the public for a few years, but when the bill comes due and unemployment soars, you will see a return to the hard-working tenets that our country was built on. If I were an advertiser of Jeff’s, I would reconsider my approach, as he too often lets his personal blog (read “ego”) interfere with his business relations. If he doesn’t like the small circle that comments here (which by the way, the overall readership is always higher than those that actually comment) perhaps he could go back to his own blog, as I don’t recall anybody here specifically requesting his presence. Make no mistake about it, his vitriolic nature was never liked during his days at The Union (both by the community and his fellow employees), which is why he was given the curb. This dented his ego, and fuels his need to attack the community to this day.

His own blog is clearly showing the effects of his rancor in that he has almost no discourse, which is likely why he comes here. Bull. Jeff, you remain upset that Crabb chose a fat cartoon character to stand in for you and that isn’t “ridiculing your personal appearance” any more than any editorial page cartoon is meant as ridicule; it’s done so the audience has a clue as to who the target is. Anyone your size (just guessing, a supersized BMI of 50 or more) should have their body image reconciled with reality. I chose to highlight your immenseness only because you got on Crabb’s case for choosing a fat caricature (anything else would cause him to lose membership in the Political Cartoonist’s Society), and that if you can make lies up about me in defamations (for example, your fabricated story of a temper tantrum that never happened), I can highlight your immenseness at will.
Cartman was a perfect image to modify for the occasion, brilliant work by RL.
Face it, Jeff, you are the fattest guy I’ve ever seen waddling down Broad Street. I can stand to lose quite a bit of weight myself; if you’d like some exercise, I again challenge you to a footrace from the steps of the NCPD on Broad Street to The National, starting with putting on socks and shoes without assistance, tying the laces (no velcro, no sandals) and hustling down the hill. Video of the whole thing to be placed on youtube. Piece of cake… or, better yet, no cake. I’ll even buy you a drink afterwards.
Jeff likes to use caveman images to tar those who don’t share his politics on global warming. People with a background in science may enjoy reading the transcript of an American Physical Society workshop on crafting a new statement on climate change. The first one, from 2007, was crafted in secret by a self appointed group of officials, without any investigation into the real state of the science. This time it’s in the open, probably because of the public resignations of a few physicists, including one Nobelist. Here’s the transcript followed by a discussion by one of the participants:

573 pages, took me awhile to read it, in detail in some places, glancing in others. Jeff, if you need help understanding anything there, let me know. Help is available.

    Gregory,
It is not “bull.” You just don’t like the answer. Ridiculing a person’s personal appearance is neither brilliant nor intellectually compelling. The behavior here is truly abnormal.

There is no discourse here, just a roomful of like-minded guys.
Ah….more of your incessant whining about “divisiveness in our community”.
What exactly are you looking for Jeff? The spirited and frequently venomous back and forth that occurs here or the proggie affirmation “circle jerk” that I see regularly at your site?

Oh there’s another one, “fish.” I’m having a conversation with “John,” “keen observer” and “fish.” Like I said the behavior here is truly aberrant.

Jeff, your demanding of a normal weight cartoon caricature was over the top.
Truth about your corpulence beats your defamatory words, and Pruett (I’ve not met him myself, we just don’t travel in the same circles) at least had the courage to run for office. Try it yourself, if you can stand actually putting your popularity to a vote.

    Gregory,
I’ve lived all over the country and traveled all over the world, but I never knew people like you existed until I moved to this community. Many thanks for broadening my horizons.

I post as “fish” here and have explained why on multiple occasions. I don’t post at your site because you don’t allow it….no problem with that…. house rules.
If you find you find it unpleasant here, you can always slink back to your sandbox where the debate is always pleasant and to your liking.

For a great list of aberrant behavior, here’s the seven deadly sins of narcissism:

Can anyone here identify one that the FUE has not exhibited with some regularity?

    Gregory,
Are you seriously denying that the behavior being exhibited in this thread is anything but aberrant? For your sake, I hope your future employer doesn’t read it. LOL.

Why, you’re welcome, Jeff. Yes, in the real world, smart people, when hit by ugly Friscoid political mudballs, hit back. Eye for an eye, truth against lies.
Don’t take my word on your popularity; Jeff, run for office. Maybe you’ll be lucky; Pruett might run for the same one and you’ll have an easy win. [chuckle]
