SowellThomasIn his 19feb14 column on Townhall.com, national commentator and academic Thomas Sowell takes a disquieting look at the prominent freshman Senator Ted Cruz, who he claims is weakening the Republican Party with his man-the-barricades, no compromise stance against the Democrats’ rampant expansion of government that is led by President Obama who has clearly thrown the Constitution under the bus.  He sees a strong Republican Party as the last great hope to save the Republic.

In Obama’s accreting unbridled power to the presidency, Sowell points to the parallels of the bit by piece process with which Hitler and the Nazis subverted the German state after gaining a minority position in the Bundestag in 1933.  In his analysis Sowell repeats the very points I have made on RR, using the exact analogue he now warns us against.  And on another parallel track Sowell wonders if the tipping point to violence and the fundamental transformation of America has not already been passed.  I remain convinced that it has.

It is interesting to compare the hysterical and accusatory comment streams on RR when I first introduced these notions.  Now it seems that a lot of what I and other bloggers saw as the disastrous path of our nation, is finally becoming visible to the acknowledged socio-political sages of our time.  I believe that they remained wrapped in their measured responses too long as the obvious unfolded across the land.  Apparently for the Sowells, Krauthammers, and Wills the time has now come to start running after a train that left the station long ago.

Don’t conclude from this that I am not an admirer of Thomas Sowell, Charles Krauthammer, and George Will.  I most certainly am, and have here demonstrated my admiration.  But I do take them to task on their rather dignified absorption rates of what has come to pass, and for foregoing the hope that earlier and less nuanced warnings from their pens may have made a difference.

So Paul knows about this secret ruling elite but can only name one person – Cruz – who ran on a platform against the cabal that tricked the mainstream voters into voting for a Tea Party person and then they kicked him out because he voted against the cabal just as he said he would.
Paul – as I said before – if you can’t explain what the heck you’re talking about, I’d say you really have no idea of what is going on.
You are trying to say that the Koch bros and Soros get together and plan a scheme to get rich and powerful at our expense.
Come up with some specifics, and then we’ll have something to chew over. Until then, just saying they want wealth and power doesn’t quite differentiate them from almost anyone walking down the street. If some sort of crime has been committed, then please give us details and names and the laws they broke.

Ruling elite? Heck, just look at the Ukraine right now. There is one crowd protesting for closer ties with Mother Russia. Then there is another crowd protesting for closer ties with the West. But behind it all is the sheer unbridled out in the open opulence of the ruling elite and their mind blowing wealth while the rest go poor. Talk about the 1%ers and class warfare. Don’t know how it will all work out, but I am reminded for the old Russia Proverb “Go West young man”.
Want to see what happens when you step out of line? Just Google Ted Cruz and you will find tons of articles and pictures lampooning him and the Tea Party as crazier than a blue veiner in a nudist colony. Crazier than buttons on a dish rag. Boy, the left and the mainstream media downright hate the Tea Party Patriots. Taxed enough already? The nail that stands up is pounded down.

Bill – don’t be taken in by these obvious schemes. Those articles and cartoons are just all part of the secret plan. OWS and the Tea Party and the Green Party and the NAACP are all part of the plan to ruin Paul’s life. He has all the details and knows who they are, but if it’s revealed they’d hunt him down and – well… you know what Soros and the Koch bros can do.

All kidding aside, folks – you see the problem here? Paul has advanced the idea – one shared by many – that there is this sinister ruling class that works together to unfairly gain power and wealth at the public’s expense. When pressed for details, names and agendas – he has none. Other than Ted Cruz. Glad I wasn’t drinking milk when I read that. Is this terrible cabal pushing the AGW nonsense or are they against it? Are they for the Fed or against them? Are they for a bigger govt or smaller?
He can’t go into specifics because as soon as he does, the whole plot falls apart. It’s basically a lazy way to appear intelligent and knowing by ascribing the cause of anything that happens that is bad to ‘the banksters’ or to the ‘ruling elite’. And with the crowd he runs with that’s the end of it. Sorry – the world is far more nuanced and complicated than that. The villains and heroes come from every walk of life in any given circumstance of conflict or failure in society. And sometimes there are no villains or heroes. And sometimes it’s millions of stupid folks being themselves.

Do you need proof that water runs downhill? Okay. Let’s start with Big Pharma, the medical industry and the vampire lawyers that leach off the living that spend a Trillion every year to influence legislation through lobbying and campaign contributions to insure their bloated profits. Just a reminder that we spend the highest percent of GDP on health care of any country in the world. Do you think that kind of money doesn’t get results?

    Okay Walt
Comparing Obama and Bush is indeed comparing two very bad and inept Presidents. I give Bush one Iraq wars edge to the bad over Obama. Both are pussycats to the ruling class with different allegiances but the same end result. Bush took a decent economy and basically balanced budget and ran it off the cliff. Obama used full throttle and trillions in debt keeping us in the mud with no traction to get up the hill. Bush had no plan for health care, Obama had a bad one. Both support the Patriot Act and all of its trimmings (NSA spying etc) Obama gives good speech and does nothing, Bush cant finish sentences and does nothing.
If they were high picks in the NFL draft they would have been busts within two years and playing Arena football or coaching high school. Instead they were both re-elected.

Paul gave an excellent articulation on his view points. Gotta him a hi-high five for that. The only thing I would add to Paul’s synopsis is that Bush supported the Patriot Act after 9/11 and Obama took it into the stratosphere, well beyond the law and intent of the law per Obama’s MO. Bush refused to strike Taliban and Al Qaeda at funerals per international law….Obama starts salivating when he hears the clothheads are gathering to say their last respects….time and time again.
Don’t think Bush ever went off on Fox News, even after Fox broke the story of Bush’s DUI on the eve of the election. Come to thing of it, don’t think Bush blamed anybody. Well, Paul, you don’t have to worry about Bush finishing a sentence. He has been a rather quiet ex prez. He ain’t craving the spotlight like Bubba before him. I happen to like Bush and his wife with her kind gentle modest spirit. Opps, Bush just came out and said we have to do something to help the unemployed vets. I was wrong. He broke his silence….6 years later.
The only reason I have 2 brain cells left and turned my life around is because a certain Governor George W Bush of Texas sealed my records and gave this peon a fresh start and a ray of hope. Call me bias and most definitely grateful. And if you believe that, I feel sorry for ya. 🙂

YUP, that takes some powerful people. Someone had to give the order for the IRS to go after the Tea Party,, “O” could have “never” come up with that on his own.
The one thing you need to explain, how come these “rulers” are Leftists? Thay have done a GREAT job of keeping people with a “D” next to their name in control of things. When was the last time Repubs had a controlling majority? I get it,, Bush was a fluke.

Walt, I would not hammer Mr. Paul too hard on this topic, IMHO. All my life I have heard whispers, rumors, and innuendos that there are a group of people that pull the strings. Trilateral Commission, Masons, Rothschilds, pick your poison. Rumors were really big when Jimmy Carter was Prez and him and Kissinger were part of “the group”. “They” are very secret and powerful…Some say George W’s granpappy was in the secret cabal. Mr. Walt, it ain’t beyond the realm of possibility. Maybe not now, but maybe once upon a time. There sure are a ton of theories out there.
And now to your astute observation. Hillary had the nomination/election hands down against McCain and then late in the race (late meaning February of the election year), some unknown freshman senator with only 2 years under his belt wins the whole enchilada. First he got the Kennedys to toss their weight behind him and then Harry Reid told his beloved Hillary long time no come see. Harry was correct. Obama is “an articulate Negro.” Heck, we know one thousand times more about Sarah Paline’s school records, roommates, what classes she took, her professors at U of Idaho than we will ever know about this current man shitting on the Oval Throne.

Pesky Tea Party types and their equivalence on the other side are treated much like a controlled burn. You let it burn but protect the valuable assets. The kickback from big business when the Cruz types got a little frisky was to threaten to cut off he flow of dough. That was the end of that. They (the powers that be} would rather have more debt because they can stretch it out for a long time and will jump ship when the time is right.
The powers that be (i’ll use that for now instead of ruling class] is not a bunch of schemers meeting in secret places. I suggest reading Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins for a look at how they operate. There are many threads of the powers that be. That is only one example.

No, its not that they have been issued the death sentence because of BarryOcare. No, its not BarryOcare in and of itself. What is this one other thing that the soon to be deceased have in common after losing their doctors, specialists and medicine????
Answer: After going on the airwaves, they ALL have suddenly got audited by the non corrupt IRS for prior years. Worried sick about dying and not receiving life saving care and now they get hit by the IRS just to mess with them.
The message is clear: Don’t criticize the Scared Cow, aka, Joemomma Obama’s most single piece of legacy legislation.

Wow – Paul gets down to specifics. ‘Big Pharma’ – funny, I looked up that company and I couldn’t find it.
They do bad things, apparently, but Paul doesn’t give us much to work with there.
I’m well aware of the gross imbalance of what America spends on health care and the results of that expenditure of capital.
Paul’s astute reasoning follows that of a drunken red neck declaring that ‘crime’ is the result of allowing n-words and hippies to populate the town.
I’m afraid, Paul, your ability to gather facts and reason through a social problem lies a few fathoms below that necessary to have a reasoned discourse. Not trying to be insulting, but I’ve asked you several times for names and illegal actions and you just come up with Mother Jones talking points.
We do have several ways to lower the cost of health care in this country and the left adamantly refuses to hear any of it. Part of the problem is the govt and the way it treats private businesses in the field of health care. Most of the ‘people’ as the left refers to them, would not tolerate for one second a Euro-style health care system in this country.
How about we follow the Euros and get the lawyers out of medicine. Care to look at the statistics of the percent of health care money in Euro-countries that end up in the pockets of lawyers compared to this country?
Want to change that? Every left wing group in this country will be at your throat. ie: ‘The People’.
It’s a huge long gravy train and if you want to point fingers of blame, you haven’t got enough fingers.
Hospitals charge you 50 bucks for a bandage because they have to treat everyone that walks in the door. A lot don’t have any money and the govt doesn’t reimburse at anything close to a realistic rate.
Yes we have a problem in health care in this country.
Solving it will take open minds that can acquire knowledge and work for a solution based on reason, not left-wing bigotry and prejudice.

Come on Scott you know what I’m talking about. It’s the influence of big money on our political process. Big Phamra and the medical-legal complex contribute a billion a year through lobbying and political contributions. Of course they expect favorable results or they will pull their dough much like the US Chamber threatened to do when the Cruz types were feeling their oats. The Republicrats are bought and sold though you have a few mavericks that try.
“Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) introduced the amendment allowing drugs to be imported through Canadian online pharmacies with the support of Senators Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine). McCain bitterly blamed industry lobbyists for pressuring Senate members to reject the amendment which failed 43-54.
Before the vote took place, McCain said, “In a normal world this would probably require a voice vote, but what we’re about to see is the incredible influence of the special interests, particularly pharma, here in Washington, that keeps people who cannot — that have to make a choice between eating and medicine.”

It may have come down to the moneyed interests being institutional in nature rather than identifiable individuals who cannot be identified. These then would consist of corporations, industry groups, private sector unions, public sector unions, professional organizations, charitable foundations, special interest foundations, NGOs, social-order advocacy groups (e.g. environmentalists, income equalization, etc), and so on.
It isn’t clear which of these voices should be silenced, and through what means. However, my experience is that the Left wants to selectively silence all voices that oppose their ideology and objectives. And the Right wants the government to stay out of prescribing who may talk to it when and how.

You would have dictatorial powers over who can contact our elected representatives. You and the left constantly advocate for rules and laws that benefit ‘big whatever’ and hurt the small businesses on a regular basis. You want ‘single payer’. That is taking our health care in the worst direction possible and it’s what the big businesses are praying for. Concentrating power as you want goes against what you claim to want. I don’t think that you have any idea of how things work in this world.
Your example of the vote on what drugs can be sold in our country has been reduced by you as ‘I didn’t get what I want and I have decided to blame some one who has money’. We can play that game all day long both ways. What about the laws being passed that you like being backed by big money?

Maybe we could get rid of cancer by thinking happy thoughts.
Paul – are you really so far gone in your world that you actually have no conception of the fact that what you think is a good ‘independent’ representative is my idea of a candidate for mandatory mental health treatment or just target practice material? Do you really think that only you know what is best for all of us?
We all have different opinions, Paul. And my guy and your guy (or gals) with out any outside money or influence would soon be at each others’ throats about 2 days after they were sworn into office. I want a govt that will follow the Constitution and only charge me what it costs to keep that limited govt running – you want a govt to wipe your bottom and blow your nose.
We just don’t agree. At least with my arrangement there won’t be nearly as much govt for the wealthy to play with and they’ll get bored and go away. You want a bigger playground for the crooks to screw with and then think somehow it will magically get better.
