George Rebane

Well, my cover is finally blown.  RR has often been accused by our Lefties as trying to pass itself off as an ‘oh so smart’ blog.  But no more.  My nemesis came this morning when I opened the Tuesday Union to its op-ed page to enjoy Bob’s regular ‘It Takes a Village Idiot’ offering that I share with readers below.

RLCrabb121121
After some considerable study and consultation with my beloved cooking wench, we both came away puzzled, and more importantly, embarrassed.  We didn’t have a clue as to what the Crabb Man was telling us.  As a devoted fan of crabbisms, crabbastications, and divers crabbophilia in general, this was most distressing.  Clearly the graphic intends to convey a deep message to the broad audiences that regularly peruse The Union’s pages for local wisdom and goings on.  And now suddenly I found myself left out, and scratching my shiny pate.

So I’m appealing to Sir Robert himself and any other kind-hearted RR readers to explain, as gently as possible, the meaning of a throng of people bearing torches, pitchforks, and claiming some mandate while assaulting a windowless castle that flies the banner of the (formerly) Almighty Dollar, and is the repository and bastion of something or someone in need of such a formidable redoubt.  To amplify my question mark, I see an occupant wearing a military style hat peering down from the ramparts.

Having now confessed, and hopefully soon in possession of the clarifying explanation, I thereby appeal for reinstatement as a member in good standing of Nevada County’s broad audiences and general public.

    GeorgeR 909am 11/24/12 – “That’s quite a mix and match list.”
Damn straight. I was just funnin’ ya…
Thanks for appreciating the Rosie reference. What I was trying to get at is that you invoke the “S” word constantly, and perhaps you should be more circumspect.

MichaelA 1108pm – I assume your ‘S word’ reference is to ‘socialist’ and ‘socialism’. Actually, I try to use those labels as precisely as I can, and would appreciate any feedback from readers when they feel I have gratuitously stepped out of its Circumspect Corral.
For readers unfamiliar with my use of these S words – which I consider labels for a major plague on the human condition – please refer to the RR glossary, especially the second link under ‘socialism’.

George, I recall a Firing Line where Buckley and company were debating some on the left including Gary Hart(pence). Buckley let loose with the s-word regarding the Congress and was challenged by Hart to name one socialist in office. The response was something like “It would be unfair to any one of the socialists in Congress to be singled out”.
It took a LOT of socialist thinking to get into a 16 trillion (some say it’s well over 200 when you include the debt and promises off the books) debt; one wag made a claim that Dems are socialists and Repub’s are reluctant socialists. The problem with the term in American politics is that Socialism and Soviet Socialism were one and the same in the American mind, so it was hard to be an American Socialist without being seen as a traitor at heart.
I think the european term “social democrat” is probably the least offensive to the folks that want to be socialist but just can’t call their spade a spade.

Gregory 120pm – Agreed. However, as we know, socialism is only a way point on the collectivist road to tyranny with stops to try out various forms of autocracy along the way. The European social democrats continue to illustrate this with only a few having discovered how to proceed at a tolerably dignified pace. But proceed they must, as their debts become ever greater fractions of their GDPs. With our the large fraction of our illiterate, innumerate, and ignorant electorate, we have joined them.

George, sorry for not being more clear. The “S” word I had in mind was “Solyndra.”

MichaelA 140pm – Thank you Michael. As with socialism, I try my best to also us that word properly as I define it in the RR Glossary. Noted infractions appreciated.

You’re reference to the “illiterate, innumerate, and ignorant electorate” must refer to those who thought the Romney-Ryan ticket was an actually electable opposition.

PaulE 1148am – Well it was a fleeting hope as an alternative to the Nasty Naif and Bozo the Clown. Keep your eye on your wallet (unless you can qualify for the Gimme Class), because these two have anything except GDP growth on their agenda for America. And without historical GDP growth rates – starting right NOW – we are going down.
As you and yours are happy dancing in the streets, take a peek at the second graphic in this post – where will their unemployment checks come from?

Do you think any of the Republican Conservative candidates would have done any better than Romney?
Santorum? Gindrich? Bachmann? Paul? Perry? Cain?

PaulE 510pm – No. Romney had the best chance to successfully sail into that electoral gale, and he blew it. (That doesn’t mean that I think that Romney would have made the best President from that group of contenders.)
