Not that there was any chance of doing that during the last thirty years or so.  Huffingtonpost.com summarizes it –

State Democrats have won a supermajority in the legislature (at least 54 Assembly seats and 27 Senate seats), which means they can now reach the two-thirds majority vote needed to overcome filibusters and pass crucial tax revenue laws. It also empowers the party to overturn vetoes handed down by Gov. Jerry Brown.

CaliforniaLegislatureThe certifiable idiots are now fully in charge of the asylum known as the California Legislature.  I believe that Californians are again first in the nation, this time to demonstrate that we are not capable of governing ourselves.

Dear reader, if you thought that AB32 (aka the cynically named ‘Global Warming Solutions Act’) was a disaster when passed, you were among the state’s few prescients.   Today no one will get much credit for predicting the dystopia that now faces our once Golden State.  All I can advise is to keep women, children, and the infirm away from the exits.  We don’t want any more injuries as the rush of the state’s emigrants turns into a torrent.

And then, just when you thought things were already going to hell in a handcart, they upgrade that to high speed rail.

[9nov12 update] The world of liberty and enterprise is beginning to take note of the other disaster that befell our country last Tuesday.  Today’s 9nov12 WSJ observed our state’s calamity with these words.

For Republicans unhappy with Tuesday’s election, we have good news—at least most of you don’t live in California. Not only did Democrats there win voter approval to raise the top tax rate to 13.3%, but they also received a huge surprise—a legislative supermajority. Look out below. … The main check on Sacramento excess has been a constitutional amendment requiring a two-thirds majority of both houses to raise taxes. Although Republicans have been in the minority for four decades, they could impose a modicum of spending restraint by blocking tax increases. If Democratic leads stick in two races where ballots are still being counted, liberals will pick up enough seats to secure a supermajority. Governor Jerry Brown then will be the only chaperone for the Liberals Gone Wild video that is Sacramento.

Noting the ongoing rise in union power in the state that promises to swamp the already unserviceable fiscal burdens, unfunded liabilities, and growing municipal bankruptcies, the WSJ states that “now Californians will experience the joys of one-party, union-run progressive governance.”

However, there is a possible upside for America in this regional storm of electoral dumbth.

The silver lining here is that Americans will be able to see the modern liberal-union state in all its raw ambition. The Sacramento political class thinks it can tax and regulate the private economy endlessly without consequence. As a political experiment it all should be instructive, and at least Californians can still escape to Nevada or Idaho.

TK (Doug Keachie) 9:33, my expectation is the new socks belong to you or Jeff. If parts you would miss are to be removed, the two of you should decide.
No Keach, I don’t have a huge pot of money, it’s just that besides a 45 year old airplane that I use for transportation I don’t have any huge expenses, and that plane costs less to own per month than some of the cars I see at the Rude Center or the NJUHSD parking lots. I know a number of middle class pilots, including the guy you buy your airplane rides from. Some of them are struggling, but are happy to drive ratty cars because they don’t need the false status of a new truck or shiny Prius.
I realize your class warfare message requires envy. Suck it up.
Jeff Pelline, you vow to get back at me for being mean to you, your favorite local climate warrior (who has never taken a class in physical science) and Keach, all of whom threw the first stone at me over that subject. Even this round was started by you when you called me a “boob” safely from your home sandbox and then came over here and started the namecalling all over again. It certainly hasn’t helped me to stand up against the sort of tabloid climatology that the three of you have been promoting and on your campaign to denigrate those who don’t agree.
From the published and available science in 2007 I came to the conclusion that clouds and aerosols were enough of an effect to wipe out all of the catastrophic predictions that were driving the debate. In 2010, even Lovelock was reporting that senior IPCC scientists, in private, were “scared stiff” they got it wrong and the problems were over clouds and aerosols.
The IPCC bandwagon continues to slow, with the musicians jumping to safety, one by one. There’s a brand new published, peer reviewed paper from Dr. Judith Curry, Georgia Tech’s climate science chair, titled “Climate science: no consensus on consensus”. You really should read it, you would learn something. Curry isn’t a “skeptic” but she is a reasoned voice that is clear about the problems in the IPCC brand:

I realize the three of you probably see yourselves as something like the Three Musketeers, but science is on a roll in a different direction and the stooges of the world will be the last ones to notice.
Now, back to the vehicle maintenance chores that kept me from the fun here yesterday.

To all the casual readers here, please go out on your own and read the full record of Lovelock’s comments on climate change, his self described limits to his knowledge of the topic, and his clear statements that he believes the climate is changing, that it is human caused and that we need to take action to mitigate and adapt to the impacts.

In short, Greg is has consistently both overstated Lovelocks objections to AGW theory and misinformed readers about the context of his comments about scientists being afraid ‘they got it wrong”.

It seems to me that the growing debate on AGW and climate change is going to go all over the place without any systematic structure to it from which either progress of understanding or of the locations of schisms can be made.
I outlined a structured approach here that few may grasp and fewer are willing to explore since arbitrary shifts of aspect and argument from which to shout your latest belief is so much more fun. I invite such structured argument here. Please see ‘Climate Change – A Format for Reasoned Dialogue’ and following –

However, for looking at the details of skeptical science that refutes the True Believers in so-called consensus science, I do suggest that you take a look at Russ Steele’s Next Grand Minimum blog as perhaps a better place in which to pursue this whirlwind issue.

George, you really should delete all the “Wang” posts. There should be no place for such parodies at any blog.
Frisch, let’s revisit the Lovelock quote being discussed:
“The great climate science centres around the world are more than well aware how weak their science is. If you talk to them privately they’re scared stiff of the fact that they don’t really know what the clouds and the aerosols are doing. They could be absolutely running the show. We haven’t got the physics worked out yet. One of the chiefs once said to me that he agreed that they should include the biology in their models, but he said they hadn’t got the physics right yet and it would be five years before they do. So why on earth are the politicians spending a fortune of our money when we can least afford it on doing things to prevent events 50 years from now? They’ve employed scientists to tell them what they want to hear.”
This isn’t about Lovelock’s beliefs regarding atmospheric physics. This is Lovelock reporting on what the folks who are the source of the supposed “consensus” what they have to say when speaking to an environmentalist on their side.
Either the science is settled or they are ‘scared stiff they got it wrong’. There isn’t anything in between. They tell the world one thing and James (“Gaia”) Lovelock, a biologist, something else.
I have no reason to doubt Lovelock’s report, since I’m quite sure the chiefs of the “great climate science centres” should be scared stiff they got it wrong.

Todd asked for national by-county results and I am posting it here since I can’t find his original post:

I heard again the claim regarding more R latinos than D latinos elected, and realized my error… it wasn’t the House, it’s everything. Federal, state and local.
“GOP holds advantage over Democrats in electing Latino politicians” -LA Times

That’s just one citation, I picked a hit near the top of the list from an unimpeachably Democratic source.
