WSJβs Neil King Jr in his βPolitical Perceptions: The Red-Blue Economic Viewsβ is a bit confused when he structures his argument that only one side can be right in their opposing partisan views on the economy. He says, βDigging deeper into the data, one finds the same phenomenon noted by Purple Strategies: that views on the economy are anything but impartial. Obama voters overwhelmingly think the economy is getting better, and Romney supporters think it is getting worse.β
There is no dichotomy here, both sides looking at the same economy and the growth of obamunistic policies should the President be re-elected, are spot on. Obamaβs supporters in anticipation as recipients of bigger government checks ("the President's stash") see an economy with excellent portents. And Romneyβs supporters, seeing themselves as having to write those checks, are looking at a bad economy. No problem at all, capice?
PS. Itβs those middle roaders, those that canβt figure out whether theyβll be the receivers or writers, who have a problem.
