Last year a polarized Congress came up with Satan’s Sequester as the compromise for raising the debt ceiling and not shutting down the government. That infamous sequester was not a plan anyone expected to execute, it was just to let everyone get on with electioneering in hopes of winning the spending cut and tax increase battles during the 2012 campaign. It’s important to recall who brought what to the compromise. The Repubs put massive entitlement cuts on the table with no tax increases; the Dems would only play if there would be tax increases, less cuts in transfer payments, and a massive cut in military spending. The Dems won that one as the Repubs were scared into being again blamed for ‘shutting down government’. They made a deal with the Devil.
Now that Taxmageddon and Satan’s Sequester are barreling down on us, the called for military cut backs will actually gut our military as Obama’s SecDef continues to point out. Meanwhile, to divert attention from the Dems maintaining their vote buying transfer payments, they and their union chorus are hollering that the Repubs now “own” gutting the military because of their “buy in” to the total sequester package. Moreover, the Dems seem quite happy to actually allow the sequester to take effect and hobble our already inadequate strategic weapons systems from maintaining pace with the greatly increased military spending by China and Russia.
There doesn’t seem to be any plan from either Obama or congressional Dems to pull the nation out of its insane power dive. Obama will then finally get the economically devastated and globally compliant nation that has been the single objective of his administration. That end will give the feds all the “flexibility” they need to put the final muzzles on individual liberty and private enterprise. For a view from another angle, read ‘Are Entitlements Corrupting Us?’. (With apologies to Clint Eastwood, we have augmented his empty chair with an empty suit so as to leave as little as possible to the imagination.)
In search of the ‘hard right’ – our nation’s Lefties continue to parade their emotionally charged yet intellectually empty attacks against effigies of their own making. They have no clue as to what the discriminating tenets are in any part of the ideological spectrum. As one of their own discovered and then lamented, liberals are forever focused on “issue activism” (cf. ‘Liberals’ Intellectually Baseless Ideology’). Consequently they are bereft of the prerequisietes for reasoned debate. An invitation to disprove the good progressive professor’s findings on RR stands.
The 1sep12 WSJ takes Romney to task for saving his administration’s agenda for post-convention campaigning. It’s true, Romney/Ryan have a very extensive and detailed set of proposals for the next four years, but during the convention there was only so much time in which to scrape off the ad hominem lies on which Obama blew his pre-convention ad cash. It was a hard call, but I would side with Romney – his convention speech was a rare opportunity to introduce himself to a very large audience that usually doesn’t pay attention before voting. Today we are already seeing Obama taking Romney to task on that while not giving anything of substance in return. We have to recall that most people cannot tell objectives from elements of a plan to achieve such objectives, and therefore continually accept objectives as ‘the plan’.
A correspondent sent me a copy of a local lefty’s blog post wherein he takes me to task under the rubric of Repubs “eating their own” (you guessed it, it was the FUE who must again be having trouble with his numbers). It seems that my consuming sin was pointing out a Supervisor’s remark about not connecting his opposition to Prop31 to also opposing the elements of Agenda21 (see my 31aug12 KVMR commentary).
What in the aggregate eludes these leftwingers is that in conservative circles we don’t have to dance the Liberal Lockstep and hew to the party line – witness everything from the rise of the Tea Parties, to the above cited 1sep12 WSJ editorial.
Apparently in progressive circles anything approaching such criticism of fellow progressives is anathema, immediately falling into the category of a “rant” that raises visions of ‘throwing under the bus.’ It is always instructive to point out such substantive differences between us in everything ranging from the meaning of simple words like ‘conspiracy’, to discerning the difference between secure borders and being anti immigration, and women’s health and federally subsidized abortion. Yet the search for common ground goes on.
And finally, here’s just a touch of western civilization that has given the world so much, and that now stands more abandoned than ever against assaults from within and without.
