OccupiersOaklandJeffery Sachs of Columbia University is a very prominent and celebrated far Left academician who writes extensively in the national media.  For example, he is the spearhead of that august Scientific American having been politicized over the last decade or so (it is now also a much thinner magazine with articles that have definitely turned to ‘science lite’).  Dr Sachs wrote a piece in the 12nov11 NYT that has gained much attention, and is hailed by the liberal media and weblogs as a definitive statement summarizing how things were, are now, and ever shall be.

Capitalism is definitely dead and buried in his new world, socialism is the accepted form of governance, and incomes are collectively equitable.  Taxing the rich will pay the fare for the trip, and the Occupiers are the ones starting our journey to social justice and renewed prosperity.  I draw your attention to it, dear reader, because you need to understand what fills the sails of the liberals who so enthusiastically promote their world on these and similar websites across the land.  They firmly and fully believe the adornment of history that Sachs provides – it is such a straight, obvious, and simple road from here to Man’s destiny – Marx lives!  (Image pilfered from the article.)

You may proceed to read the whole piece – ‘The New Progressive Movement’ – after you have poured yourself a stiff one and fastened your seat belt.  (For those readers yet to install seat belts on their home couches and easy chairs, be forewarned.  This oversight indicates that you have not yet exposed yourself to the full force of collectivist thought.  Brace yourself!)

Oh My, Howling at the wind!
OCCUPY WALL STREET and its allied movements around the country are more than a walk in the park. They are most likely the start of a new era in America.
The Sacramento OWS contingent tromped down to Gov Jerry Brown residence and started some socialist howling. They were clueless that Jerry Brown had left the state on a Thanksgiving Holiday. It seem to me if these useful idiots were as Internet savvy as they claim, a quick smart phone check would have alerted them to Brown’s departure. Oh, it was the socialist howling that was important, not the location.
Those who think that the cold weather will end the protests should think again. A new generation of leaders is just getting started. The new progressive age has begun.

I do not know of a single person who thinks of Jeffrey Sachs as, “far left”. Here is the wiki info on him.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Sachs
I have read both of his books and I cannot think of a anyone in the field more committed to transitioning socialist economies to market based economies, to privatizing property in former socialists countries, or instituting western capitalistic stock markets and ownership structures as a means of reform. The basic premise of his books on poverty is institute capitalism quickly and vigorously and poverty will be reduced.

Steve – it doesn’t matter what your small circle of friends think, Jeff is very far left. Just read the freakin’ article. He is so committed to his left wing views that he fabricates a ridiculous reality of the fed budget. He tries to tell us that the fed budget is shrinking down to nothing! Considering that revenue is up, I wonder how he explains the soaring deficits? I’ve read several articles by him and it’s all about ‘social justice’ and redistribution of wealth.

SteveF – with all due respect, I do think that he started out that way when he was an international economics consultant to countries like Poland and Chile. But something happened in the interval. I have now been reading his columns for some years in the Scientific American, and reading about his apparent epiphany to collectivism. He no longer prescribes environments where capitalism can survive, and IMHO that is the danger of his lure. In the final analysis, progressivism will not tolerate either individual freedoms or individual enterprise, and Jefferey Sachs is now a self-proclaimed progressivist.

I am not shocked by the article in the least. Sick people say, do and think sick things. From within to without. If you lie down with dogs, you are going to get fleas. Seems the left is clamoring for their bailout. Pisses them off big time that bailouts went to Banks, AIG, Solar Panel Manufacturing EVIL Corporations (which burn energy from coal fired plants to make solar panels, ROTFLOL), Evil GM and Bullet Trains to Nowhere. Makes them pissed to the max and messes with their superior mental capacity. They want THEIR bailout. “Bail me out from my student debt. Gimme me a job. Gimme me shelter and force somebody else to pay for it, anybody but me!” Libs always want to take my money and give it to lazy brain dead ash holes and call that fairness. Take my work ethic and leave my money alone. Don’t tread on me or you will get a hot lead sandwich, you anti-2nd Amendment Professors of Dribble. Hey, shit for brains, it is my money. Not your money. Bail your own sorry selves out. Libs have never, never, ever seen a government program they did not love and never have seen seen a budget cut they didn’t hate. “No cuts!!! Spend, spend, spend. Shop til we drop” is their mantra. One thing that gets them more riled up than a goat’s butt in a hot pepper patch is ATM fees. That gets them to take their gloves off and put their bongs aside. Everything is a lib’s twisted pathetic mind should be free. Free. Libs even think free food tastes better, especially since they don’t like to tip. Oh, they like tips alright, tips on how to get stuff without earning it. Nope, not taken back by this article having been around some real nut cases in my time. Hey libbies, if you think health care is expensive now, just wait until its free.

Jeffery Sachs was a primary advisor on transitioning post Soviet economies in eastern Europe and hyper-inflated economies in South America.

    D. King, not all of us 99%ers stay in $700.00/night hotel rooms. That’s only 21k/month, which is about what Nancy charges the taxpayers for her office rent in her beautiful sanctuary city by the Bay. But, Nancy is not a 99%er. I like most of the 99%ers. I like the hard working folk who comprise most of the 99%ers, like the law enforcement officers who get up every day and show up for work and gas the OWSers. Those 99%ers I really like and they aren’t asking for nuthin’ but the fruit of their own labor.

SPAIN’S SOCIALISTS lose in a landslide. Spanish voters, tired of war, got rid of Aznar and brought in people promising hope and change. Now they’re broke, and the Socialists are out and the conservativs are back in power. The problem will be restoring the damage done by the socialist before the Spanish voters get tired of waiting. Unemployment is well over 22%. Going Green destroyed the economy and it is going to be a very diffcult recovery.

There is something about this whole Occupy Oakland, Occupy Portland, and Occupy Wall Street stuff that has been eerily familiar in my memory banks. Can’t quite put my finger on it as it keeps pointing me back to the 7th grade. Finally, I am starting to make the connection. The 7th grade required reading list included Animal Farm, Lord of the Flies and Looking Backwards. Surreal is right. Animal Farm combined with Lord of the Flies now going on in the streets. Looking Backwards reminds me of the naive statements on D. King’s video he so graciously shared. Personally, I enjoyed reading The Call of the Wild, Animal Farm (very funny) and Lord of the Flies more than Looking Backwards, The Last of the Mohicans and Silent Spring, but that’s just me. Figured it out. OWS is like being in 7th grade again. Even 7th grade had its cliques and hierarchy and…..birds of a feather flock together. Guess there is nothing new under the sun.

In fact, anyone who watches Comedy Central on a regular basis will find plenty of politically incorrect humor. Hard to believe the Spaniards were recruited by Hannibal and they kicked the Romans butts a few times. Nice to see the Green Agenda caused them to return to sanity?

I watched the Dan Blather interview of Dr Sachs. His view of Wall Street financial firms equals a pig-stupid white cracker racist’s views of Black Americans.
In other words he is full of hatred and prejudice. He doesn’t like them because they all broke the law. Well – so has Jeffy Sachs and the OWS crowd either broken the law or condoned it, so what’s the difference? He makes sweeping declarations of fact without a shred of evidence. His view of wealth accumulation is that you must be greedy or crocked or both. Sorry – he’s a totally bigoted left wing zealot.

I read the article from KOS that Thornton posted at 9:04. I’m thinking that my wife and I are at around 4 times the amount the ‘middle class’ have on average. Even though our combined incomes were never in anything higher than the lowest amount to be considered middle income. It was due to choices we made in our lives and how we managed our money. If the middle class want to impose on themselves punishing taxes through govt fees and overly burdensome regulations, then it’s going to cost them. It wasn’t anyone on Wall Street that did that. Just the cost of getting a permit to build a house in Nevada County is around $60,000. Once that is financed, it’s over $100,000. Hello, idiots! $100K and that doesn’t cover the first stick of house. Others just save and pay $100K to buy an entire house. The middle class voted to have that. Wall Street didn’t do that – they did it to themselves. Wall Street folks are, on average much better than the average middle class person in America at managing money and personal finance. They got that way because they expended the effort to acquire the knowledge and exercise fiscal restraint. The average middle class American can’t be bothered. They keep re-electing crooks like Princess Pelosi because she whispers sweet things in their ear that they like the sound of and can’t be bothered to take the time to read the facts. I don’t care what anyone makes or how much some one has as long as I’m free to make my way in this country with out having to drag along deadbeats, whiners, socialist govts and lay-abouts. If I end up with less than some one else it doesn’t bother me in the slightest as long as they didn’t use the govt to take my money. And that would be the govts fault for taking it from me – not the crooks fault for accepting it from the govt.

Now that I have puffed up my personal wealth like a swinging pinata for the govt to swat at, how do I protect myself from the thieves in Sac and Wash? I find that I am now an evil person according to the left and need to have my unfair gains ‘re-destributed’. Already the Sac crowd has started the ball rolling with the CalFire ‘fee’ that only the conservative districts pay. Libs in the Oakland Hills and Malibu Hills etal have and will get CaFire coverage and will not pay this fee. If this illegal tax is passed by the courts, the land values will diminish even further. Middle class holdings will diminish and then the libs will again blame Wall Street.

So your paraphrasing, and taking my statement out of context, does not apply here. I was not referring to the US economy as a socialist economy, I was referring to eastern European post Soviet economies as socialist economies.
Regarding Sachs’ analysis of what happened in the US as ‘liberal’ is totally inaccurate–there is not one statement he made in the interview linked above that false–he roundly blamed both the Democrats and the Republicans for the 2008 financial collapse, and actually mimicked many of the Tea Party critiques of the economic crises.
I don’t expect you, or anyone here to ever agree with that analysis, but it is the truth.

Liberals don’t play by the same rules and always leave in a huff, muttering something about murdering turkeys this time a year. It is just the way it is. Two wrongs never make one single Right.
