Mr Paul Emery – KVMR news director, musical personage extraordinaire, bringer of arts, and erudite RR discussant – and I have been invited by the Nevada County TPP to engage in a moderated ‘civil discourse’ on issues of current interest as their featured special program for September.  The event will be held on the eve of 27 September in the Horseman’s Club lodge off Brunswick Road.

As readers may be aware, I am both a member of the NC TPP and a regular KVMR commentator.  However, both of us will be speaking as private individuals, neither claiming to represent the views of KVMR or the NC TPP.

The intent of the discussion and Q&A is to provide and explore today’s perspectives held by people of conservative and liberal persuasions in these contentious times.  (Paul and I are a self-declared ‘green libertarian’ and ‘conservetarian’ respectively.)  There will be no intent to make the exchange into a debate, but to keep it simply at the level of a comparative explication.

As a footnote of interest to this event, I want to draw your attention to the reaction of the local left after NC TPP announced the event and invited its attendance.  I was made aware by a regular reader that my participation in such an undertaking caused quite a dust-up on the blog of our former Union editor, Mr Jeff Pelline (here).  My correspondent supplied a copy of a comment stream from that blog which is faithfully replicated herein below.

Furthermore, I was also informed that progressives of many stripes presented themselves last week at the NC TPP’s fair booth to protest that the likes of me would be allowed to share a stage with Paul Emery.

Now what I find most interesting is that such people, who are virulently opposed to the very existence of the tea party movement and consider organizations like the NC TPP to be ‘terrorists’ and ‘hijackers’ of good governance, deign to publicly inject themselves as juries and judges of how the NC TPP may properly compose and undertake its gatherings.  Don’t get me wrong, such attempts to assess and control what is 'good, correct, and proper' in society is of a piece in the public implementation of progressive ideology.  Nevertheless, it is an illuminating confirmation to see it also being played out right here in Nevada County.

And below is the view from Mr Pelline’s blog, a left-shoulder venue that often and ardently proclaims its residence in the middle of the road.  The verbiage and vituperation is by Mr Steven Frisch, CEO of the Sierra Business Council, leading light of the county's left, and RR commenter.  The reader is, of course, invited to validate from these pages Mr Frisch’s vitriolic allegations.

Do you think Paul will ask George about:
1) his continued use of the term ‘raghead’
2) his contention that Islam is a religion of hate and thus must be resisted by American ‘patriots’
3) his contention that western civilization faces a threat the equal of the invasion of Europe by Muslims beginning in the 9th century and his comparison of modern times to the Crusades
4) his use of racial stereotypes to describe and refer to the President of the United States
5) his condoning the use of the term ‘jiggaboo’ on his web site
6) his believe in and promotion of separatism through the advancement of the concept of ‘the great divide’
7) his characterization of anyone who does not accept his radical right wing philosophy as a communist   his use of ‘dog whistle’ messages to relay one thing to true believers while appearing to be rational to the uninitiated
9) precisely what he means by “The right of a culture to endure and thrive in its homeland.”
Let me make one thing perfectly clear, I am an American, I do not have a Fatherland, I have a country that I have worked for and love, not a belief system that must predominate over others in order to cement my identity.
I fear that civil means ‘kid-glove’.
WE CAN NOT keep treating these people with kid gloves. They are promoting a radical agenda, that is antithetical to core American values, that will lead to the destruction and dissolution of our nation.
They are not Patriots. They do not own that word.

I’m actually wondering why Paul would do this with George rather than a board member or officer?
Here are the board members:
Stan Meckler – President
Nancy Garcia – Vice President
Donna Burley – Secretary
Jodi Davis – Treasurer
Lou Wilson – Events
Randi Briggs – Mail/Phone
David Swift – Communications
Shelly Rose – Next Generation
Rick Briggs – Phone Tree
Sue McGuire – Volunteers
Elaine Meckler – At Large
Eddie Garcia – At Large
Jerry Cadick – At Large
My guess is that George will be able to shield the impact of his statements on the broader group, should there be a ‘macaca moment’, by stating up front that he is not speaking on behalf of the NCTPP.
In which case this is just window dressing bullshit.
I want the KVMR news director to do some old fashioned NEWS.
You know, hard news; like what is the real agenda of the TPP relative to Mark Meckler’s 40 year plan that is available on You Tube? where did the $1 million the California TPP’s get come from? What is the relationship between Don Blankenship, Massey Energy and Verizon and the TPP? How about Freedom Works?
If the Tea Party movement is all about transparency in government why do they maintain a distributed network (kind of like terrorist cells) that make it impossible to understand the relationship between the groups?
Or issues like what is their tax status and can we see their 990′s and audited financial statements? if they are a 501c-4, how can they say they are not a political organization since the intent of a c-4, or ‘social welfare organization’ is to engage in politics? if they are ‘non-partisan’ why do they only endorse Republicans? how can they say they are not a political organization when the definition of powers for a c-4 is: “501(c)(4) organizations may lobby for legislation, and unlike 501(c)(3) organizations they may also participate in political campaigns and elections, as long as campaigning is not the organization’s primary purpose.” Can they honestly say that the organizations primary purpose is not campaigning? how can we see that?
Hey Tea Party, do you share George’s desire for a culturally pure homeland?
How about a little less commentary from a wanna be intellectual and some more hard friggin’ hard NEWS?

Here is good example of the attack on diversity found on George’s blog:
“British social scientists are quietly starting to ascribe the cause of the ongoing riots in the UK to multi-culturalism (gasp!). It seems that there is insufficient reason to suspect deprivation of this sort or that since Great Britain is one of the most socially generous and culture-compliant countries in the world. The rioters have been mostly black Africans who have attacked the shops and businesses of other ethnic groups in UK’s major cities. (The police shot one of their gang members.) In response, the target ethnics – Pakistanis, Sikhs, Turks, … – have coagulated into defensive ethno-centric vigilante platoons since police protection is sparse and late. Prime Minister Cameron and other European leaders have already gone public with their assessments of how mulikulti affects their respective countries. Tough reporting job for the leftwing press.”
http://rebaneruminations.typepad.com/rebanes_ruminations/2011/08/ruminations-11aug2011.html#comments
Notice there is no reference to which ‘British social scientists’ are ascribing the cause of the rioting to multiculturalism. Notice that George discounts “deprivation” as a cause, even though numerous British sources have pointed directly at the austerity plans, and anger over them, as a cause (call me on it and I will cite sources). Notice that George implies that European leaders are ascribing these riots to race, when in reality David Cameron has been quite clear that he ascribes them to criminality. Notice that George calls protecting ones property “defensive ethno-centirc vigilante platoons”; one wonders if, as a property rights advocate, he would define white middle-class residents the same way? Notice that George ignores the fact that MANY of the rioters arrested were white, middle class, opportunists, rather than people motivated by some multicultural revenge agenda.
This is once again an example of how George engages in dog whistle racist political messages.
I know a racist, a religious bigot, and an intellectually dishonest propagandist, when I see one.

The more powerful the Tea Party becomes in the fight for liberty the louder, angrier, more hypocritical and hateful the progressives will become.
George, it takes intelligence and bravery to be a leader in the fight for liberty- thank you for all you do to promote freedom.

Here is the problem with Mr. Frisch’s dog whistle, he is the one that decides if he likes the pitch, tone and whine of the whistle.
According to Wiki : Dog-whistle politics, also known as the use of code words, is a term for a type of political campaigning or speechmaking which employs coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has a different or more specific meaning for a targeted subgroup of the audience.
I would also add there is sub-group of liberals, like Mr Frisch and many over on Mr Pelline’s blog, like the over the top Kait and Curtis Walker, who spend an inordinate amount of time slicing and dicing every written word and utterance of George, all in an effort to find a word or phrase they define as a “dog whistle” code word. Note, these would be liberal definitions of code words, not something that George embedded in his prose, code words are something that they seem to have an in-depth knowledge of, and strong affinity for. Tweet, tweet!

I think PaulE is also brave to be doing this get together. Paul is never told here that he should shut up or is told what he can and can’t say. Yes, we all get into loud discussions sometimes but the difference between this blog and most of the rest of the right’s blogs is we don’t act like a Frisch, or a Kate Hancock. They are simply vile machines of leftwing hate. Pelline enjoys their slim apparently since he never seems to chastise or moderate them and their ilk. Why? Because he is one of them. George in my opinion is a much more intelligent person than them, especially the Faux intellect of Frisch. He is as bad as the politicians he excoriates for hypocrisy. George and Paul will be trashed by the left because they choose to discuss current issues and political ideology. The left wants to shut them up beacuase it undermines their hateful tactics. The fact the left came to the TPP booth to do their nasty is the best example and it seems to be a tactic now being used even by Obama.

Hey, lets not hijack America by engaging in the exchange of ideas in a civil manner. Sounds like some want to try the old distraction ploy of shooting the messenger before the message gets out. Sickest trick in the book. Glad that neither George nor Paul hold public office and have agreed to meet in a open forum. George will probably be booed and have to defend the word “raghead” endlessly while Paul twiddles his thumbs waiting for a chance to put forth his points. Hope not, but the scenario is a possibility if the sharks smell blood and the censorship committee is out in force. Personally, I blame the unrest in Britain solely on the caustic words used by some of our current “public servants” to incite class warfare. A despicable lot they are. George and Paul will be predictably civil. The messenger shooters may be most uncivil in tone and words. Never mind our economy is in free fall.

Steve doesn’t seem to understand why there is a Tea Party, or why they are so angry. Back when Gov. Jerry took the reins of government, he was optimistic that the Dems and Repubbys would make a compromise deal on the budget. It was the kind of deal Dems have been making for years; write up a phony unworkable plan, and sell it to a couple of starving rural districts by bribing the reps with earmarks. Jerry and Steve apparently haven’t been paying attention, because all those assemblymen and senators have been purged by the majority of voters in the hinterlands. There never was going to be a deal.
Despite the fact that California is among the most heavily taxed states in the union, they can never balance a budget without tricks and passing it on to next group of boobs who get elected from the affluent urban areas.
That’s why they’re angry, and race doesn’t have anything to do with it.

They do not own that word.’ Well Steven, they’re the ones that rose up and made us realize that our “Bill of Rights” (human rights) is the one common thread capable of bringing all Americans together…again. Thousands of people gave their lives to make freedom possible, and the Tea Party Patriots are reminding us of how important it is. Consequently, they’re the ones now being stoned and spit on by the political status quo, just as Jesus Christ and all the human rights advocates have always been treated.”

With a couple of known Repub flippers in the Wisc Senate Gov Walker will now become kinder and gentler since he’s dying in the polls and a recall next year is already in the works. Overreaching and shrillness does not create sustainable change. Gov Perry is already being scolded by Repub pro’s for his big mouth and swagger. The Dems are licking their chops right now and keeping their fingers crossed that he gets the nomination. Jeff P’s repeated broken record question should be addressed on Mr. Steele’s blog. I thought I was on Dr. Rebane’s blog, but after all this confusing drivel I might be on some other blog. Just like at our modern universities, free speech and the open untethered exchange of ideas is something to be squelched, shouted down, feared and hated. Would have been nice if Mr. P addressed the debt, the deficit, the history of the left promising spending cuts out one side of their mouths and raising spending and maxing out the credit card out the other, or even how taking money out of the private sector and giving it to government creates jobs, jobs, jobs. Even Reagen got fooled by believing the promises of the Pillsbury Dough Boy Tippy O’Neal. Fool us twice, shame on…..

On the other hand, I don’t know if that will translate on the big board come 2012. Paul,
President Obama may become so unpopular that he is unelectable regarless of the exceptionally weak field of Republican candidates. He is underwater in New York, New Jersey, and Portland Oregon.
That poll showing Barack Obama underwater in New York may not have been an outlier after all.  Quinnipiac finds Obama’s approval plunging neighboring — and nearly-as-blue — New Jersey.
This Survey USA poll in Portland, Oregon doesn’t bode well for Obama, either.  In a deep-blue West Coast city like Portland, Obama’s favorability rating is … 41/45.  Among independents, it’s 34/49, and it’s only 67/18 among Democrats.  Obama manages to be underwater among both men and women, too.
Things are not going in the right direction for “The One.” The economy is not recovering, and jobs are becoming the major issue of the campaign. His new jobs “plan” will just be Porklus II in drag.

Wow! I missed the fireworks! We live in a system with a golden rule (free speech), and I will step forward to support George’s blog and even to support the extreme leftwinger blog of Pelline too. Both of these ideologues are free to speak as they please. I agree with neither of them all of the time…in fact I, like all of the readers of this blog, do not agree with anyone all of the time.
Intimidation and retaliation is a tenet of the local left winger.
An example of Pelline’s tactics is here. http://barrypruett.blogspot.com/2010/08/intimidation-and-retaliation-tactics.html
We should not be intimidated by Pelline’s Alinsky tactics and rhetoric. Such tactics have marginalized Pelline’s influence with local elected officials from both sides of the aisle. Local conservatives are taken to task for being conservative. Local liberals are taken to task for moderating their positions.
We can disagree in a civil manner. We can discuss issues and remain friends afterwards. For Pelline, the debate is a war that he must always win. For others, like myself, we just like to debate the issues and maybe bring a few to our side of thinking.
Having met virtually all of the posters here in person, I like them all. Despite our political agreements at times, they are all good people who are advocating what they truly believe to be best deep in their heart.

Paul what was your position on Presidential candidates in 2000 and 2004? How about 1980 and 88′? Predictions made on bad information and personal bias don’t usually pan out. When the left was trashing the Wisconsin state house and their union thugs were marching the streets we heard a lot of bluster and predictions of doom for the Senate recalls there. Well, now that their attempt to hijack Wisconsin failed, where are all those chest thumpers? Oh, now they are targeting Walker. But I have read other articles that the libs are not going to proceed because the voters are weary of the overreach by the employee unions. No, you can ridicule the R’s in Wisconsin and the R’s Presidential candidates but you cannot foretell the future just as we could not when the voters elected a little known fellow from Chicago. The Obama administration has wrecked the place and the people will be voting his sorry butt out because they want real hope and change, change in their pocket. It’s the economy.

Barry, you are right on the money with your post. Pelline comes to town and it appears he has brought his city ways to our little hamlet and most people don’t care for that, NH2020 was bust and created a lot of problems because it was a “big city” solution to small town problems and we see the result. The city folks thought they could shove their ideology down the throats of the rubes here and they got spanked. I saw an unknown named Robin Sutherland take out Izzy Martin who was and still is, the darling of socialist landuse policy. Why? Because the local rubes don’t like people like Pelline coming to town and trying to take over the idyllic lives of local folks. Pelline is a fine example of a leftwing bomb thrower and one only needs to read his posts here and the posts of the nuts on his blog to understand why he and they are marginal characters here. No one likes them because they have no respect for anyone that is not a lefty and they are not nice people. Even the picture on his blog of I guess him driving his expensive boat on Tahoe shows he is out of touch with the people. I would say his attempt to become important character here in our little backwoods county has failed and he is now just a “character”.
Barry has tried to bury the hatchet with him and his lefty pals but they will have none of it. After working the republican booth at the fair I have to say Pelline is totally wrong on his political assessment of our county and its voters. It is a conservative place and to declare anything else is ridiculous.
As we can see here even when Paul and George are given a venue to discuss current events, Pelline and his lapdog Frisch go apoplectic. Paul and RL say many things I disagree with but I would not try and shut them down as the left does.
So let’s keep the threads open, duke it out when we disagree but always keep the threads open.

I must note that George has not actually countered one of my contentions that his position is inherently bigoted against Muslims, separatist in nature, and uses code to defame the President.
Nice work George. George Orwell would have loved you.

    Todd,
You never answered why even Russ Steele won’t link to your blog?

By the way, is it really true that we have a meeting of the minds between the news director of KVMR, who does not represent KVMR, and a proud Nevada County Tea Party Patriot, who does not represent the Tea Party? at the Tea Party gathering?
Don’t get me wrong, I respect anyone’s right to meet and chat, but really, are we so enamored with these two that they become the Tim Leary and G. Gordon Liddy of Nevada County?
What is really the point of a ‘meeting of minds” where no one represents anybody, your respective groups don’t sanction the positions, and everyone has plausible deniability?
The security blanket is a sham.
I notice that I enjoy no such treatment here; every comment of mine is treated as though it is on behalf of my organization, even though I speak here as an individual. So much so that George even went out of his way to point out my affiliation. Why is that George?
Come on boys, grow a set!
