George Rebane

Russ Steele, pre-eminent Nevada County blogger and author of NC Media Watch , was prominently featured in a NYT article about the impact of social media on blogging.  Russ, who has been an inspiration to many of us lesser lights in Nevada County, spoke for those of us who have not chosen to use Facebook or Twitter when he characterized blogs as the internet medium for more considered and expanded presentation of ideas and commentary.   Of the more abbreviated versions of such communication media, Russ said he is not interested in telling people whenever he goes to the grocery store.  I’ll add an Amen to that.

Congratulations my friend, you cast a long shadow and are an inspiration for the rest of us.  Write on!

Well said, George! Dittos and congratulations to Russ for telling it like it is. People in need of sharing every waking moment of their lives let alone shopping habits have issues requiring special medical attention. These new age social experiments have spawned a lot of narcissists.

Russ of course has the most visited blog in our area ans so I can see why the NYT wnted to interview him rather than any leftwing blog of no renown. Facebook allows you to post the link from your blog. I use it becasue those on my friends list can click and connect easily. It seems to expand the number of visits a lot.

Thanks for sharing George. Kudos to all of the bloggers for the information and debate, which I think is very important in our society. I use facebook regularly, I try not to put my whole life out there for everyone to see, but it is a good way to stay in touch with friends and family from other states and stay tuned on the latest. I think a combination of media sources such as blogs, twitter, facebook, newspaper and radio have given us a plethera of information sources. Blogs and social media have transformed media in the fact that you can get the on-the spot news as it is happening sometimes and get several different points of view.

OK Todd, I’ll follow your lead and start posting RR titles on my Facebook page to see what happens. Thanks.

    George,
Thanks for the post and the kind words. Lisa Howard at Sac Connect asked me to set up a Facebook page for NC Media Watch. She wanted to let my readers know that the Bee had highlighted one of my post in the newspaper using Facebook. I am working on creating that page. I will let you know how it works out.

Perhaps using the social media to announce our more extended scribblings is an acceptable function for old fuddy-duddies like me. I walk in your footsteps.

George, you are no fuddy. We all appreciate your writings. Facebook is simply another tool to get out the truth.

Ditto to whar Todd says George. You are no fuddy duddy. I am trying to pull up an email you sent me last week, through the business of last week’s CR and being out with my back, I have not been able to find it, can you resend? Thanks George.

George, you certainly are no “fuddy duddy”. You give me a headache sometimes, your writings are beyond my intelligence level! I gotta read the articles twice to get a grip.

You can say that again Mike. George has a command of the English language second to none, and he is pretty smart too.
Congrats to Russ for his never ending dedication to keeping the information flowing. Sometimes I wonder if he has any spare time.
