We really have the dynamic duo of dummies in the White House. Ol’ Joe Biden has been taking a lot of solo heat for way too long on being the fastest blank shooting lip in Washington. As RR, other conservative sites, media programs, and published pieces have pointed out for almost two years now, El Presidente is the least qualified holder of that august office, perhaps in the country’s history. He even lags a bit as he works his way up to the VP’s level. But he has achieved parity in being able to hip shoot embarrassing blanks.
Earlier in the week (here) Obama announced that the material in the Wikileaks emails from Afghanistan were “old news” and nothing the country should concern itself about. The people in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and at the Pentagon almost tossed their lunch when they heard El Hefe come out with that little piece of interpretive wisdom, and they have been trying to do a little reconstruction of the story without making our Chief Executive look like an absolute idiot. Not to worry folks, Sec Def Gates and his trusty troop have handled the case. But to accomplish that it has required the lame stream media to switch operations into extreme ‘What me worry?’ mode.
NPR reported this morning Gates was pressed to admit that what happened was according to him a “massive breach of security”. It was immediately clear to anyone who has dealt with military security that such raw reports revealed “names, methods, and processes”. (In the early sixties I also served as S-2, intelligence officer in a nuclear artillery battalion, and was privy to such reports from both our and the Soviet side of the curtain. Part of my job was to extract pieces that would impact our battalion’s battle plans and summarize these for my boss, the battalion commander.)
The full impact of this loss will yet be felt, but Gates already has pointed out that it will now be much more difficult to garner “future trust” of current and potential Afghani informants and security forces when they know that their identities are already known or tomorrow will be known to the Taliban. Two murderous retribution attacks by the Taliban have already taken place this week because of the released emails, and there are more to come. Gates is literally begging Wikileaks and anyone else in possession of additional emails to not release them on the web. As the well-read reader knows, the counter-insurgency effort in any country, especially Afghanistan given its history of dealing with foreign forces, depends almost wholly on gaining the trust and co-operation of the indigenous people.
Every day that passes demonstrates how little this president and his trusty sidekick know about how the world works. We do know how little he learned from his work on the south side of Chicago, but only God and the leftwing administrators at Harvard have a clue about his scholastic record and his academic writings now firmly secreted in sealed files. Would that our intelligence reports had received the same care.
The tied bow on all this is again that he is getting another ‘by’ from the liberal media. Had GWB made even one such gaff, he would have been roasted on a spit in the rose garden by the White House press corps and the national commentators on MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN. Motions to impeach for incompetency would have made C-SPAN the most popular daytime viewing for days. Even Fox News would have had to give him more than honorable mention for being stupid. Instead, this president gets huzzahs for going on ‘The View’ during all this.
The only hope that most Americans now keep in their hearts is that the program for his radical leftwing makeover of the country will fail because of the sheer incompetency of the team he has assembled and now so nimbly leads. However, this is thin comfort indeed, and it could use some bolstering in November.
Our own constant reminders of this assessment are the effects of his national nostrums for the economy, and our county’s experience with his $787B American Redistribution and Re-election Act. Perhaps our progressive voices hereabouts have it nailed, Obama believes that Nevada County is strongly swinging left already, and that the money could be more profitably allocated elsewhere.
[update] Oh boy, the examples underlying the means, methods, and mentality of this administration and its bureaucratic cohorts highlighting its broad spectrum incompetence will number in the tens of thousands, each of them costing all of us along every dimension of our civil lives.
Rep Tom McClintock entered into the Congressional record just a short summary of the government’s idiocy in managing the Gulf oil spill. For the umpteenth time the congressman asks, “Before we add more bureaucracies to the equation, shouldn’t we ask how the existing ones did?” You can find it here.
Meanwhile closer to home the local Sierra Business Council is hiring as the agent employer of last resort for the government. And of all things, these new troopers will be draining our wallets doing ‘green jobs’ that promise nothing save increasing the entropy of our universe starting with the local Sierra Nevada. An RR reader and correspondent sent this –
The Sierra Business Council has just announced that they are looking for ten community interns to help local governments in the Sierra Nevada with greenhouse gas inventories.
The positions call for people with experience in community planning, engineering, or facilities services work currently unemployed or “underemployed.” The positions are paid and will provide interns training in emerging greenhouse gas inventory software, a plus for any employer or local government. For more information on these positions, click here or visit their website at sbcouncil.org.
We pass this on as a public service advisory describing yet another of the ratholes (aka “greenhouse gas inventories”) into which tax monies continue to be poured during this recession.
