Another major lapse in government competence is demonstrated almost daily.  We, of course, know that what we hear about is just the very tip of the iceberg of incompetence.  It is for this reason RR argues that we should minimize the role of government wherever we can.

Now we hear that over the last year and a half 17 Afghan pilot trainees have gone missing in the United States, and somewhere between 6 and 10 (the government reports conflict) are still missing.  And the government does not consider this to be a national security matter, but an “immigration violation”.  The dufus index on this one is pretty much off the scale, but not to worry.  They’re extending the scale for next time.

To illustrate how tangled is the current national debate on ‘immigration’, there is no clear conception of the types and status of aliens currently residing in the US.  An effort was made here to structure and highlight this mish-mash of perception and policy.

These Afghans never were immigrants and are not now 'illegal immigrants'.  They were technically aliens here on work visas the conditions for which they have now violated.  That makes them simply illegal aliens and fugitives from our law.

The fact that they’re Muslims also makes them a national security threat in a Bayesian sense (profiling and all that, gasp!) given the history and experience with Islam’s use of terror against the west.  There is at least one member of Congress (Senator John Cornyn, R TX) who understands this.

Meanwhile the federal inepts mumble, cover up, and argue to take over more of our economy and lives with programs staffed by the dumbest of the dumb placed into organizational structures that have never worked.  And half of us are cheering them on.

A “related” graphic? A rural county’s funding in Northern California and AWOL Afghans. How illogical of a leap is that? Wow.

The casual yet intelligent RR reader understands that this post is really about broad spectrum government incompetence and confusion, noting and citing a number of examples, and not about AWOL Afghanis. The breadth of such incompetency reaches to the niggardly dispensing of ARRA monies to Nevada County for which no reasonable basis has been supplied over the last year plus. Unfortunately for other readers, the press of time does not permit such posts to be supplied with amplifying and/or edifying explanatory endnotes that would make the materials more widely accessible.

The problem with your analysis George is that IT IS WRONG about the amount of ARRA funding which I have pointed out to you many times, and backed up with links to state and federal sources you could use to check or elaborate on the County’s data that you are using.
This is what got me kicked off your blog to begin with: I am directing you to more accurate numbers, you are continuing to use inaccurate numbers. I can only conclude that this is intentional in order to prove your point that the ARRA funding coming to Nevada County is ‘niggardly’.
The intentional spreading of inaccurate information is a lie.
    Period.

SteveF, I take it your correspondence with Nevada County government is equally copious and vehement. Perhaps you could advise us all as to their response.
Again for the edification of you and yours –

Again, I have not communicated with Nevada County government, and the vehement nature of this communication is a result of your responses, not the County’s. This may be an accurate representation of what the COUNTY applied for, but it is not an accurate representation what has been applied for pertaining to the county. Private entities, collaboratives, regional organizations, state government and non-profits can apply for and receive ARRA funding, and many have. But then they must all just be “the dumbest of the dumb”. (My guess is that counts as name calling, a vice you are quick to charge ‘liberals’ with, but hypocritically ignore when you are the perpetrator)
For the edification of your readers–you can go back and look at the links and specific information I sent you previously.
Here is the deal, I am a reader, I brought to your attention a flaw and the DATA, you ignored the data to serve your own propaganda purposes.
As the AUTHOR you have a responsibility to be accurate.

    You’re welcome Mikeymcd.
SteveF, I have made clear that I make no other representation about the ARRA funding to Nevada County than does the county’s government on the startpage of its website. If you wish to provide another accounting of ARRA funding for Nevada County, then do so and I will gladly publish it. Your unwillingness to confront your elected representatives speaks volumes, and your unchanging comments on this blog have become tiresome.

    Steve,
I’d be interested to know the percentage of natural gas extracted through fracking methods, as opposed to the regular way (i.e. just let the natural psi send it to the holding tanks). No doubt fracking can foul the water table when used inconsiderately.
Just got back from Concours d’Elegance at Carnelian Bay. None of those gorgeous 12-cylinder engines would work w/o light distillates. Gotta hate ’em, gotta love ’em. Watched this baby fire up her twin Allison V-12 aircraft engines and take off for Tahoe City–man, there’s nothing else like it: http://www.thunderbirdlodge.org/theboat.html
My dream is that America can come up with the next round of technological innovation and beauty, represented for example in the boating world, by the perfection of Hacker, Chris-Craft, and Gar Woods.
We’ve lost our edge. How can we lead the 21st century in new technologies that show the rest of the world how to do it, like we did in the 20th? Adaptation is the key.
