I had lunch the other day with my editor/publisher Jeff Ackerman.  We talked of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings.  And then the topic of Gloria Zane came up.  It turns out that Gloria has been making the rounds of some local blogs lately and taking a very dim view of The Union and Jeff.  But there seems to be a puzzle about who Gloria really is – apparently she sometimes sounds like a man wearing a dress.

Anyway, Jeff said that he has put out an invitation to have a little coffee with Gloria, check her ID, and settle the matter once and for all.  And if the ‘her’ is a her, he’ll duly apologize for ever doubting the lady’s plumbing.  He also offers to address some of her concerns about the newspaper so that all in all it would be a worthwhile get together.

But now that some time has passed with nothing but the sound of silence, Jeff said what really puzzles him is why Gloria has not accepted this kind offer.  It’s almost as if ‘she’ doesn’t want to be outed.  Hearing all this got my curious up also.  So if it’ll help hurry up the meeting, I’ll even show up to chaperone the pair so that all is on the up and up.

Your time would have been more constructively spent discussing who’s “dirtmover,” “redneck farmer” and the like on theunion.com. Unlike Cheers, “nobody knows your name.” How credible is that for a for-profit newspaper? I always sign my name. Do you? Posts like this sound more and more like desperation. As Russ puts it, maybe it’s time to “move on.”

Ackerman won the “gloria zane” game already.
p.s. I am not, nor have I ever used the name “gloria zane”.

Last week I glimpsed Gloria briefly as she ran across North Bloomfield Road with Big Foot. They disappeared into a UFO piloted by the Easter Bunny. If only I’d had my camera…

Amazing to me that a couple of people who talk so much about freedom are worried about whether or not someone is using a pseudonym.

One person that met up with Mr. Ackerman not too long ago is now being sued by Mr. Ackerman for millions of dollars.
The court papers filed show two different stories about that meeting. The courts will likely work it out sooner or later. The grieving father involved visited Mr. Ackerman at The Union and says Mr. Ackerman put his hands on him first and pushed him. Mr. Ackerman says the father got physical first. The grieving father that lost his young daughter is now being sued by Mr. Ackerman for millions of dollars. It’s a fact that Mr. Ackerman has bragged to folks around town over cocktails that by the time this is over he will own the grieving father’s house.
Mr. Ackernam is well known for flying off the handle and exploding with rage. I (and many others) have some very nasty and angry emails from Mr. Ackerman, send from his Union email address that show this to be true.
Mr. Ackerman has even violated The Union blog use rules and has publicly and, online divulged the real name of a Union blogger that uses an “identity” while blogging on The Union website. Using an avatar while blogging on The Union is allowed by The Union use rules and policies. Some that blog here use an avatar which is allowed by George. Russ Steele also allows the use of avatars on his blog.
The Union website policy states it’s against The Union use rules to divulge the identity of a blog poster. The Union policy states The Union will never divulge the identity of a Union blog poster. It’s sad and telling that Mr. Ackerman has failed to follow The Union’s own privacy use rules.
It’s a 100% fact that Mr. Ackerman has violated The Union blog uses rules and privacy policies and has publicly divulged the identity of at least one Union blogger. After doing so Mr. Ackerman then sent ranting and vile emails stating he doesn’t care what The Union blog use rules and stated privacy policies are. Mr. Ackerman’s violation of The Union’s own use and privacy rules is a sad and telling violation of the fiduciary responsibility he has as the Publisher of The Union. Mr. Ackerman has access to privileged information and the identity of Union bloggers that choose to use an avatar while posting on The Union blog.
The above are facts. I have the proof to back up what I have written above.
So considering Mr. Ackerman’s history and actions and his well know propensity for rage it is very understandable that some bloggers might not want to “meet up” with Mr. Ackerman for a “discussion”.

Neither the gender that lies below the mind, nor the Avatar that shields the privacy, should have any bearing on the worthiness of the thoughts. How sexist can you get? Privacy should be respected, or in my case on The Union, semi-privacy.
The powers that be, at The Union, decided that after I had once revealed my ID, they were under no obligation to honor RA’s on those who chose to keep on revealing it, even though I had chosen a new handle and made it clear I wanted to go entirely private. I have chosen to dilute these reveals by having more Avatars than the average bear.
