Anyone have any money on Obama actually going to Indonesia in June, or any time soon in a blue moon?  Cancelling the double delayed Sunday departure is smart, the scars where his statues were have not yet overgrown with weeds.  And the last we heard, they were still painting his welcoming signs.

ObamaPelosi Bret Baier of Fox News conducted one of the most effective interviews of a sitting President that I have seen in my lifetime (here).  He claimed ownership of โ€œmy billโ€ and had no idea what was in it.  But he did agree with the Speakerโ€™s proclamation that we need to first pass it (whatever โ€˜itโ€™ is) so we can find out what weโ€™ve passed.  All in all Obamaโ€™s non/answers did not sway any true believers, but for the rest of us (independents and knuckledraggers) the interview piled more evidence on to the stack labeled โ€˜Inexperienced socialist community organizer in chargeโ€™.

Meanwhile in the bowels of the Capitol, the Legion of Liberal Liars is going for the Guinness book of records on Obamacare.  In addition to their messiah, Pelosi informed us today that CBOโ€™s latest estimate of $940 billion is even less than the $871 figure they gave the Senateโ€™s bill last December.  And they still donโ€™t have the votes that they have claimed all week that they have.  Nancyโ€™s nose is going to need a splint to keep it up above her waist.

Of course, during all this, everyone on the progressive side is also combing through House books on arcane rules and hidden histories to come up with something even more nasty than Slaughterโ€™s โ€˜deem and passโ€™.  It boggles the mind to fathom what the House gave the CBO to โ€˜scoreโ€™; no one has yet voted on anything โ€“ neither the Senate bill, nor any announced set of deemed โ€˜fixesโ€™.

Historians are going to have a field day on this travesty when they study the fall of Pax Americana.  Sociologists and anthropologists will have even more fun putting together our profile as the double dummies who sat on their collective ass, and let the whole thing transpire while mumbling, โ€˜But we had to do something.โ€™

[update] Here’s an analysis of the actual healthcare from the Heritage Foundation.  This afternoon I was struck again with the serious demeanor with which the CBO numbers on deficit reductions, or for that matter, anything else having to do with the federal budget that is more than three months (yes, THREE MONTHS) out are discussed in the media.  These guys have a demonstrated capability of successfully predicting federal expenditures that is worse than the IPCC clowns have of predicting climate change.  Of course, a lot of it is not their fault because Congress lies to them and/or later does something different.  The White House’s OMB makes the CBO look good.  The OMB projections are an inside job, the big guy calls out the correct answer, and the boys and girls with eye shades back it up with as many mind numbing numbers as you want.  And all of us sheeple just eat it up.

nailed it! = โ€˜Inexperienced socialist community organizer in chargeโ€™
Unfortunately, the socialists will get to write the history books from which our future generations will “learn”… “Historians are going to have a field day on this travesty when they study the fall of Pax Americana.”

Yes, George, we all know what a bunch of inept, corrupt deviants the Democrats are. Like you, I look forward to the day when the country turns its collective gaze back to the Republicans for salvation. And this time, you’ll weed out those sissies who voted for the bailouts in the waning days of the Bush era, so that the entire global financial system could have fallen into the abyss to be reborn in the image of Ayn Rand. Let the big dog eat.
Only when this great nation is controlled by the likes of Michelle Bachman, J.D. Hayworth, Tom Tancredo, etc. etc. will we be able to sacrifice the nation’s auto industry just so we can get rid of the hated unions. The collective I.Q.’s of this group would be hard pressed to power a ten-watt lightbulb.
Even here in the 4th Congressional district, the conservative gene pool is so shallow we had to go to Southern California to find a decent candidate to hold the most conservative district in the state. I look forward to seeing Mr. McClintock’s plan to save healthcare without costing the taxpayers a dime. (And it better not cost even a nickel or he’ll find himself looking for another office to run for.)
We can grind socialist scum like ACORN into the ground. ACORN was villified for registering Mickey Mouse as a voter, but Mickey Mouse is a corporation, which means that he is a legal person in the eyes of the Supreme Court. Why shouldn’t he have a vote? At any rate, the job of helping inner city poor people can be turned over to non-profit churches. I’m sure Pat Robertson is wetting his tailored pants at the prospect.
Only then can we turn our attention to global sabre-rattling and invading countries that look at us crosseyed. That’s where our money should go. We can start with Canada and Mexico, just to protect our borders.
In closing, I just want to say that I agree with everything you said, George. That’s why I reject both of these idiotic political parties.

Whoops!…I forgot to mention Fox News, where unemployed Republicans go to sell their soap. When this country is controlled by the “right” people, Fox will turn their cameras on Mt. Rushmore, where Glenn Beck will personally jackhammer the face of the hated progressive traitor Teddy Roosevelt into the image of Ronald Reagan. Then the monument will truly be fair and balanced.

RL – I have learned to tune out partisan rants from either side. Perhaps you should stick to your more effective cartoons. George Washington warned us of the “baneful effects” of political parties in his farewell address. I think we see the insight in his warning borne out with the travesty underway in Congress right now. I know you deal in biting sarcasm. I do laugh, but not necessarily for the reasons you might imagine.

I agree, Bob. We have to laugh to keep from going insane when we see what partisan politics is doing to this country. I’m just trying to keep the rants fair and balanced.

Indeed, both parties have their progressives and neither are a sure shot to saving the Republic. Additionally, neither party has a long term strategy that works. Congressman Tom McClintock called and gave me the opportunity to bend his ear for well over half an hour. I offered him my arguments (found in these posts) of a starting point for a working, redistributive (gasp!) Republican strategy. I probably did not convince him, but the dialogue has started and I will try again.
BTW, the ‘fair and balanced’ claim always brings a smile to my face. And then it goes away when I think of all the good folks out there who know in their heart what is fair and balanced, and willing to rip each other apart to impose their brand of fair and balanced. As I have stated before in these pages, I am not so blessed and cannot claim to either emit or detect that vaunted attribute that so many of you have. I am an unabashed ideologue, and will try to interpret what I see through the tenets of a well-structured belief system which I hang out there for all to see and help me correct its inevitable errors.
I am most appreciative of my readers, commenters, and the reasonable conversations that these pages support. Thank you.

You said it, George…Neither side has a long term strategy that works. It’s really annoying when you realize that there can be a long term strategy that works, or at least could have worked before we got to where we are now. The question is: are we willing to make the sacrifices and compromises needed to save ourselves, or will we continue to stick to ideologies carved in stone until it is our tombstone.
The best thing about having a mind is the ability to change it.

On a note of hope (and maybe off the subject) I’ve been getting updates from our ex-District Attorney Mike Ferguson on his travels through Europe. He is currently in Moldovia teaching classes on criminal law to the locals. Judging from his reports, they need all the help they can get. It’s always encouraging to hear about someone who is out there trying to make the world a better place.

Good report Bob, maybe we can also send them some of our criminals so they can practice on them ๐Ÿ˜‰
