** A reader sent this unfortunate yet revealing picture from the Oval Office.

ObamaOvalOffice

** The progressive readers of my 13feb2010 Union column demonstrate again the two worlds we live in.  From their media sources they reveal a total ignorance of and rage against the relevant debt numbers that impact our daily lives while promising a draconian future.  Their happy solutions to all our problems continue to promote the ‘tax the rich until all is well’ school of thought.  They respond most joyously to mandated, subsidized, and unsustainable jobs.  Is there a box I missed checking that would give me liberal answers from government websites that present these deficit, debt, and unfunded liabilities numbers?  Do these people get rosy numbers when they check the ‘I voted for hope and change’ box?

** I found Russ Steele’s NCMW post on Nevada City Mayor Senum’s proposal to be a piece of heroic commentary.   Or maybe it’s just that I’ve been giving myself too much credit for proficiency in the King’s English – after all, it is barely my third language.  To the point, I could understand each individual word Russ quoted from her proposal.  But when looking at them strung all together, I drew an embarrassed blank.  What’s worse, for a lifelong ‘boxes and arrows’ man, I made no sense at all out of the figure she had drawn.  In sum, these thoughts from one of our community’s leading lights passed right over my head.  Maybe for the rest of us, she (or somebody else) could publish a ding-dong school version.  And I’m not kidding.  Looking at the comment stream for that post makes it plain to me that everyone else either understood her perfectly, or didn’t bother to chew on what she had written.

** Every second Friday of the month the Tea Party Patriots gather for lunch.  Yesterday’s lunch at the NC Contractors Association was an overflow crowd again – strictly SRO, late arrivers ate with their plate in their hand.   Plans are afoot to move the gathering to more commodious quarters.  There was a speaker talking about Obamacare, but that clearly was not the draw.  When we attend these TPP functions, it seems to Jo Ann and me that we are among people like ourselves who just want to know that each of us is not alone in our bewilderment and opinions about the direction the country is going.

The Mecklers and others, who do what might be called ‘leadership’ for this large and motley crew, are truly modern day patriots in my book.  It is a labor of love for our country that keeps them going, and digging into their own pockets to make cash-in equal cash-out.  Speaking of which, we all noted that another month went by without a frikkin check from the big corporations, Republicans, and other moneyed interests.  We should really ask some of the MSM mavens, those who keep broadcasting about how our movement is funded by the fat cats, as to who these fat cats are so we can tell them that they are in arrears.  Anyway, Mark Meckler has let us all know that he has pretty much tapped out his family funds paying for travel, hotels, food, etc as he does TPP work around the country.  We and many other TPP members now have the privilege of helping him out.  (More here)

George I saw it at Russ’es to and said the same thing – What the hell did she just say? sounded like some ramblings from some crackpot on the corner about connecting buildings and whatever – maybe one of the Steve’s can translate WTF the plan actually is, that was worse than reading some actual passages from Obamacare.

Great article in the New York Times on the Patriot Movement.
    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/16/us/politics/16teaparty.html?hp=&pagewanted=print
Perhaps we should just call it the “right wing movement dominated by white conspiracy theory fanatics who formerly followed gun toting militia’s who advocate the violent overthrow of the US government” movement.
    Hmmmm.

Thanks for the link to the NYT article Steve. And your interpretation of the overall patriot movement perfectly illustrates why we now fear each other.

NYT article does its best appease the freedom hating readers they serve. It shocks me that folks can be against the values of the TPP: “Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government and Free Markets”.
In contrast those opposed by the peaceful TPP’s must desire more fiscal irresponsibility, a larger unconstitutional government, and enslaving “markets.” Classic case of “good versus evil” if you ask me.
p.s. I agree with the core values of the TPP and I do not watch Glenn Beck (or listen to Rush).

If it walks like a militia, talks like a militia, acts like a militia, associates with a militia, emulates a militia and does not care if people think its a militia, chances are pretty good its a militia.

Frisch, it is scary when folks feel threatened by liberty. You can go on idolizing government (regardless of criminally evil track records) while the reasonable/just among us continue to work for the cause of liberty. A lot of men died ashamed that they helped Mao, Stalin, Hitler, etc get away with their atrocities- I won’t have such weight on my conscience.
In order to sleep better at night I will consider your posts nothing more than failed sarcasm attempts.

To either Steve and/or both – this is an honest question to both if you read this
What do you think of Sarah Palin and what if she becomes President in 2012 – honest answer and I will have no comments, nor will I disclose whether I like her or think she may or may not be ready to be President – just wondering from reading something.

“You can go on idolizing government (regardless of criminally evil track records)” That would be what criminal Prosecution’s? Where can I look up this track record?
Which of our politicians alive or dead do you put in the same box with Mao, Stalin, Hitler?
    Aren’t you guys getting just a little heated over a left-leaning mayor’s remark’s?
** I found Russ Steele’s NCMW post on Nevada City Mayor Senum’s proposal to be a piece of heroic commentary.
WAIT a minute, is this from the link:
    http://ncwatch.typepad.com/media/2010/02/what-is-a-citywide-sustainability-visionruss-steelethe-nevada-city-council-approved-the-development-of-a-citywide-sustainabi.html
    ??????
I must be missing the part that is heroic. Was it this bullet point?
    • Do you think that interconnected green buildings with a zero emissions foot print will ruin Nevada City’s charm?
Or perhaps this amazing assembly of words?
    • Do you think that developing a zero emission village is the best use of our tax dollars, given the pending economic crisis in Nevada City?
When I hear the word heroic I generally don’t think about sentences like the above. Perhaps George you are using a definition of “heroic” I am not familiar with.
    Could it be this one?
“1. behavior or talk that is bold or dramatic, esp. excessively or unexpectedly so :”
I think some heroic stroking is going on here.
