A post-American president sees the job of President of the United States as a stepping stone to higher office.
“And you would place your lance where?” my friend and blogging partner Russ Steele (NC MediaWatch) asked me in a recent email exchange. I had taken to task his reporting of the latest piece of hard science and data analysis that had been placed in the public record through conferences, technical papers, and numerous websites contradicting global warmists. I didn’t criticize his presentation of the technical conclusions, but focused on the fundamental strategy of the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) catastrophe skeptics of whom I am one.
I just don’t think that putting all efforts in science-based counter arguments is the correct strategy. Wasting no crisis, AGW is the celebrated cause and the perfect storm to usher in worldwide collectivism. It is the culminating argument that the most hindered intellects everywhere can understand and answer correctly – ‘do you want to be free and cause an end to life as we know it, or do you want to work together (under state control) so that we can save the earth?’. Gore, Obama, and the one-world socialists, are correct that debate is over; their ‘science’ has won because the people don’t understand science, they understand slogans.
But that reality doesn’t mean that these radical left elitists want us skeptics (to them ‘deniers’) to quit tilting at their carefully constructed windmills (see picture). On the contrary, the more busy we are in shoring up the scientific arguments countering AGW, the less energy and resources we have left for the part of the battle that still matters. Please don’t misunderstand here. I believe the work that both scientists and bloggers (i.e. Anthony Watts, Russ Steele, and others) are doing to expose the holes in AGW ‘science’ is important and should continue. But that effort, being necessary to counter global collectivism, does not mean that it is also sufficient to achieve success.
Promoting AGW and its proposed fixes rests on three legs – the science, the economics, and the geo-politics. If the mind of the masses is to be illuminated, we have also to bring up on everyone’s radar the perfidy behind economic and ideological ‘solutions’. The socialists in the global leadership cliques have had dreams of ‘uniting the people’ since at least the French Revolution. That their attempts have crashed and burned while killing hundreds of millions has always been successfully blamed on the faulty version of the latest collectivist ideology. And their argument for trying it the next time is the perennial ‘well that piece of social engineering was a bit flawed, but now that we’ve made some changes, everything will work out.’
Over the last fifty years this tack has become threadbare. Even the man in the street (of either gender) today sees that it will lead only to the next incarnation of autocracy then tyranny. The elites have discovered that the effective path to controlling all the world’s worker bees has to appear ideology-free so that no one can point out the historical failures. And what can be more free of ideology and have an unquestioned uniting force than a worldwide disaster? But the aliens didn’t arrive, the impacting asteroids are tardy, so that leaves only catastrophic climate change.
Since earth’s climate is complex, always changing, and hard to pin down, anyone can say anything about it to circus-diverted folks innumerate and innocent of science. It’s like a glob of play dough that you can fashion into any shape you want, all you need is the money to repeat your message. And here paraphrased, Lenin’s words inform the conspiring elitists that ‘the people themselves will pay to be convinced that they should become our serfs.’ All they need is to hold up the fabricated holy icon of impending climate catastrophe, blame human greed and insensitivity for its arrival, and then showcase ‘the only way out’ of the calamity.
All during this time the abject failures of subsidized green technologies will be kept out of the public eye by our government and their compliant news media. For example the formerly touted, now silent ethanol program has been an ecological and economic disaster. Unsubsidized, the fuel is uncompetitive in the marketplace, and ecologically it is at least as carbon intensive on the environment as fossil fuels. It is a typical big government boondoggle (more here) with global ramifications.
So I conclude that the new offensives have to focus on the economic and political agendas, like the proposed Copenhagen treaty, that will be foisted on the world this December. Our national corollary to that piece of work is the Waxman-Markey cap and tax bill now hanging fire in Congress. Putting the treaty and bill together will launch a precursor world government that will have the power to monitor and fine formerly sovereign nation-states for carbon infractions, and redistribute their wealth through a global bureaucracy elected by no one. The predictable and widespread disasters this will cause will lay the needed groundwork for the next inevitable step – the formalization of the long awaited world government.
Why do I say ‘inevitable’? Because Waxman-Markey and Copenhagen, working hand in glove, is designed first and foremost to destroy the wealth generating capacity of the United States, and make us into a second rate nation. As such we will no longer be the world’s hegemon (read sheriff), since then we will not have the resources to field the twelve carrier strike groups and seven amphibious ready groups (each capable of deploying and supporting a marine expeditionary force) that today allow us to quickly project power anywhere in the world. Once this capability is reduced or gone, for the first time in history America becomes a military peer of Russia and China. Meanwhile China is rapidly building up its strategic force projection naval units, and EU-spurned Turkey will accelerate its overtures to become the Islamic hegemon in the underbelly of Europe and Russia.
When we become a military peer – one among many equals – to then accomplish global security objectives, the United States must come under the control of a super-national command authority that will have an agenda guaranteed to be at cross purposes to American national interests. With our weakened economy and insurmountable debt, the US dollar will no longer be the world’s reserve currency. At that time we will be grateful to have it included in the basket of currencies making up the Special Drawing Rights replacement reserve currency even now being discussed among the other big financial players.
In this light, it is the battle to make our electorate aware of the real dangers of managed climate change hysteria to which I commit my lance.
