As reported in the 6aug09 Union (details here), the next Sacramento tea party will be on 28 August 2009 with four busses leaving Nevada City at 10AM.  Bring chairs, vittles, and liquids; and, of course, the most communicative signs you can muster to get your personal message out.  Important to note that bus tickets must be purchased before 5PM on 13 August 2009.

TeaPartyOrig

(Full Disclosure – this notice was motivated by the tons of crap coming out of Washington designed to convert America into a second rate autocracy, and paid for by the monies still left to Jo Ann and George Rebane from their life’s work, savings, and investments which now stand in danger of being taxed and inflated to oblivion.  Any contributions from rightwing conspiracies, protest manufacturers, corporations large and small, and faith-based organizations will be gratefully accepted and applied fully to keeping the TypePad blog server bills for Rebane’s Ruminations paid.)

    George,
See my post at NC Media Watch in the morning (10 August) on the 28th Tea Party. You have to read the foreign press to find out what is going on in our own back yard.

Good digging Russ! Well, this means that there is more of a reason to be there than ever. Maybe all of us from the several coalitions will get the message into the heads of the leftwing nuts that if they don’t straighten out and fly right, they’ll wind up having to get a real job for which none of them are qualified.

Geoerge, the Tea Party mission is get the “leftwing nuts”? Isn’t the Tea Party effort promoted as a bipartisan effort?
Haven’t there been any “rightwing nuts” past or present that have been screwing things up by spending money we don’t have?
What about the 8 years of the President Bush? What about the “R’s” that helped Bush expand government, spending and our national debt? What about the “R’s” that are in office today, voting for more spending? This seems to be one sided and political, vs. inclusive and bipartisan.
I thought the Tea Party was a bipartisan effort. But the montra is we gotta get them “leftwing nuts”.

You’re right Steve, we’ve also had rightwing nuts in power who have continued spending monies we don’t have. Today’s Republicans are suffering from their sins while in power. Today the scale is tilted toward the leftwingers who are not too swift on what is required to create wealth – the recent history of California could be viewed as Exhibit A on what the entire nation now has in store for it. The proposed spending of Team Obama and his Congress is setting unsustainable records that makes that of W and all previous presidents look absolutely frugal – war and all.
To the extent that anyone – liberals, conservatives, independents – are for limited government, fiscal responsibility, and lower taxes, they have a hearty welcome at all Tea Party Patriot gatherings. For those tending in the opposite direction, there are already plenty of forums to which they can lend their voice, or even start a new one.
Not sure about whose mantra is to “get them leftwing nuts”. Perhaps, that was your use of the term “get” to mean something along the line of ‘communicate to’.

I am a tea party “member.” I could be considered a “left wing nut” or a “right wing nut” depending on the question/litmus test administered.
I think the Tea Party’s exist because no one can tell the difference between the right (BUSH and admin) and the left (Obama and admin). This is the frustration. Both sign blank checks and trash our liberty.

George, one of my big concerns is inflation. I think we have a very good chance that we will see a whole lot of inflation in our future. What better way of reducing the debt than reducing the value of the dollar? I hope we don’t see it, but I’ll bet that we do.
I really feel the Tea Party folks and groups would be better served by dropping the “left wing”, commie-lib talk as it dettracks from the stated position of the “Party” being a bipartisan effort. If the “Party” wants to stake out middle ground and be inclusive then the smart thing to do would be to be bipartisan in the messages and discussions. Address those currently holding the majority, but don’t leave out how we got to where we are at.
Where’s Ron Paul when you need him? I like Ron Paul, my gun rights, clean water and air and I want an energy independent USA so we don’t need to kiss the butts of folks we should not be in bed with.

I fall victim to same appellations as Mikey; all depends on the question and the issue.
But Steve, your points are excellent:
Inflation – as I have written many a time on these pages, inflation is indelibly in our future. The fed’s unfunded liabilities are over $100 trillion and they will not be met with any feasible growth of the economy that can be taxed at reasonable rates. I believe the left won’t allow it; you may have other explanations which I’d like to hear. The only alternative remaining is the destruction of the dollar through inflation. Keep your eye on the debt service to GDP ratio, it’s the only important one and few realize it.
Tea Party bipartisanship – agreed that ad hoc and ad hominem cross aisle attacks are not productive as far as increasing the membership for the message or informing the debate. But what we need at this point to break the logjam is for coalitions of traditionally liberal folks to stand up and say ‘All things considered, on these issues we stand together.’ This would disarm the highlighting of the seemingly natural division that exists between the right and left. Something similar to the ‘Jews for Jesus’ approach (I’m reaching here) that disarms the most radical of thumpers from their traditional response to Judaism.
Also I would like for the bi-partisan effort to put up a Q&A website where serious questions for and allegations against Obamacare (once it’s description is stabilized – there are still five) can be posted and answered by the Congressional Democrats so that charges of “rampant misinformation” can be laid aside. The questions and answers can categorized and searchable. The technology to do this is straightforward and accessible, it just requires the political will of the side that is promoting this brave new world to accede to it. Putting up a unilateral website where one side both asks and answers questions will not and has not worked.
Ron Paul and energy – Steve, I think that in even your younger lifetime, energy independence for the US is not a feasible goal unless we crack the code on controlled fusion (then all bets are off). We can only achieve energy independence with foreseeable technologies if we are willing to unilaterally accept a path to second rate statehood and live at the edge of poverty in a land bereft of liberty. And to many of us on the libertarian-conservative side of the boat, that’s what it appears that our current ‘hurry up and change the country in ways no one understands or has time to digest’ administration is promoting. I believe that to change we must make haste slowly, while never intentionally giving up our role as the world’s first undisputed if shaky hegemon. In the meanwhile we’re up to our ass in hock.

Ok Steve a nice post for a change, you are correct that the Teaparty’s are considered Right wing extremists – but who did that ?? It the was the liberials who don’t want to acknowledge any opposition ie: the health care issue. They really are not even Rupblicans or anything else but it makes good press to rally the troops. I have never seen anything like this since the Nam war and this is much more basic.
You are very correct on the inflation call though it will happen and at least as bad as the Carter years, which not knowing how old you are were exciting.

Share on Facebook | printer-friendly House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, along with Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, wrote an interesting op-ed column in USA Today, calling the increasing numbers of Americans who are asking tough questions about the Democrats’ health-care scheme “un-American.” I know “interesting” probably isn’t the first adjective most people reading this would choose to describe it. It is interesting, though. It’s a desperate play by nervous politicians to extinguish resistance to a massive takeover they’re drooling with eagerness to complete. It’s the arrogant response of a political elite that sees itself as royalty, clad in the unimpeachable moral authority of democracy – a ruling class of philosopher-kings that only expects to be challenged once every couple of years, in carefully controlled local races they have a 90% chance of winning. Pelosi was elected from San Francisco in 1987, while Hoyer has been perched atop the 5th Congressional District of Maryland since 1981. To say that neither of them is used to sustained, energetic, effective resistance to their agendas would be an understatement.
The most interesting thing about Pelosi and Hoyer’s brand of McCarthyism is how pathetically ineffective it is. To their great surprise, calling the protesters “un-American” isn’t shutting them up. Today’s USA Today op-ed is the latest variation on one of the oldest plays in the Left’s playbook: painting their opposition as fundamentally illegitimate. It’s time for them to replace that page in their playbook, because it will never work again.
Declaring your opponents to be illegitimate is a lazy way to avoid having to debate them. No one expects powerful political leaders to lower themselves to debates with fringe lunatics. Much of the public will automatically ignore the ravings of madmen, without feeling any need to examine their arguments at length. If you discount the illegitimate opinions of all those insurance company shills, Republican party operatives, and racists thronging the town hall meetings, why, ObamaCare enjoys overwhelming support!
You can see this cynical ploy running in reverse, if you watch the dim light flickering behind Janeane Garofaolo’s eyes. Only racist Nazis could possibly oppose the magnificent agenda of Barack Obama, the modern Prometheus who dares to snatch universal health care from the evil gods of the insurance industry… therefore, everyone who opposes Obama must be a racist Nazi. Thus, the Tea Party movement stands revealed as a cleverly disguised Klan rally, with brainwashed race traitors distributing “Don’t Tread On Me” flags. Ken Gladney might have been black on the outside, but he had pools of Red State neo-fascism leaking out of him, by the time the SEIU goons were finished questioning his legitimacy.
The Democrats are accustomed to deploying this strategy without much effort, since they had the enthusiastic support of the media. When you have total control over camera placement, it’s easy to film someone like Cindy Sheehan and her tiny band of crackpots as a huge grassroots movement with absolute moral integrity. It’s equally easy to point the cameras away from gigantic pro-life rallies in Washington, and pretend they didn’t happen. Unfortunately for them, Democrats now live in a world where they don’t have complete control over the cinematography, script, and soundtrack of the American epic any more… and they will never get it back.
They began losing it during the 2004 election, most notably in the case of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. It was remarkable to watch Democrat media shills take to the air within minutes of the Swift Boat Vets being thrust into the national spotlight, declaring them “discredited” and floating the usual dark insinuations about their character and motives. For the first time in recent political history, it didn’t work. The 2004 campaign ended with those Democrat operatives weeping in frustration, unable to figure out why repeatedly calling them “the discredited Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” didn’t discredit them. Frustration turned to horror when the rising alternative media had the impudence to question the legitimacy of Dan Rather, the designated heir to Walter Cronkite, and bring his phony National Guard document scam crashing down in flames.
The cultural and media landscape has changed enough to deprive Democrats and their media allies of the power to rule their opponents out-of-bounds easily. It’s darkly amusing to watch them fumble across this new, less slanted landscape, shrieking the devil words they think will scare voters out of questioning them. If you look beyond the squalid little insinuations about swastikas and un-American fifth columns, even the less hysterical challenges to the legitimacy of their opponents are revealing. The accusation that people asking questions at town hall meetings are paid operatives of the insurance companies supposes the superior virtue of politicians to private industry. When Obama’s political staff sends out marching orders to supporters, along with scripts for how to look credible and concerned while advocating state-run health care, it is considered to be noble “community organizing.” If insurance companies were to assist with any kind of organized resistance to Obama’s agenda, it would be denounced as sleazy and sinister.
To appreciate this mindset, you must embrace the central tenet of socialism: the State is caring, compassionate, and wise, far beyond the vile and money-grubbing businessmen of the private sector. The insurance industry couldn’t possibly know anything useful about insuring people, could it? Of course not. Only their greed prevents them from showering Americans with cheap, universal coverage. The same dynamic is at play when liberals sneer at the idea of allowing energy companies to have any say in energy policy. It’s also why the Left loves to extol the virtues of “working Americans,” while offering only hatred to the business owners who employ them, and arrogant contempt for the consumerist culture that purchases the products they create. On any given topic, the only legitimate voices belong to politicians and their supporters. Businessmen are expected to sit quietly in their cells and await judgment.
The Left’s challenge to the legitimacy of its opponents stands reality on its head. In truth, there is no greed as boundless and vicious as a politician’s lust for power… and unlike the energetic pursuit of the profit motive, the greed of a Nancy Pelosi produces nothing useful as a side effect. There is no class of people less qualified to run any industry than the political class, whose priorities never include the health of the industries they run into the ground. No one cares less about their “employees” and “customers” than a liberal politician. No one should be allowed to “buy” controlling interest in any industry with a stack of ballots, because the Constitutional restraints on government were not meant as minor inconveniences for the State to navigate around. Elections may have consequences, but the suspension of anyone’s right to property or free speech should never be among them.
In the end, health insurance is like any other commodity. There are only two ways to obtain it: buy it, or force someone else to give it to you. The people who understand this cold truth do not sacrifice the legitimacy of their dissent by acting outraged in the face of an outrage.

    “rightwing nuts” past or present
How about Arnold Schwarzeneggar and John McCain. They both believe Al Gore is a straight shooter.
    Nuts…
    More then a little.
Hey George, I read some disturbing stuff about soup kitchen lines a mile long in the San Joaquin because of all the unemployed farm workers.
    We need pictures of that!
Pic is worth a thousand gallons of ink. What say you get in contact with your friends in the tea party, see if they can scare some up?

    Obama’s Katrina – That’s where I read it George.
I gave it a look on google news. Couldn’t find any visuals.
    That’s kind of strange.
Maybe the author of the piece, Scott Ruppert, is padding the drama a little bit?
I know they are hard pressed by the governor declaired water emergency (not warranted by the facts on the ground in my opinion).
The names of the players are checking out. The District Court Judge Oliver Wanger is the real guy who closed off their access to water.
Since Ag is the biggest employer in California maybe we’re all feeling the crunch already with the shrinking tax base, except we’re too dumb to know it.
Hope you’ll have better luck with your tea party contacts.

Hey I don’t want to loose my 3,000 mile salads, please get this traightened out
Steve – the Tea partiers are not calling out Democrats specifiaclly, just big Gov and out of control spending, I don’t think I have ever heard anything like “get the leftwing nuts” from them.
Now the Liberal left believes in that, so if your not with them you are the enemy and a rightwing nut – attacking the downtrodden – the victim card, they love to be the victim.
