Supervisor John Spencer emailed me a heads up on the progress of Nevada County’s massive influx of ARRA funds. Obama’s American Redistribution and Re-election Act of 2009 (or something like that) was supposed to get money into the shovel-ready hinterlands double quick. The county records our progress on the homepage of its website MyNevadaCounty.com. We add that the county has and continues to spend monies up front, in hopes of getting the promised ARRA reimbursements. I wonder if those reimbursements will be calculated with the time value of money taken into account. Not much to report yet, but RR is starting a plot of how we are faring in this effort to muscle our way up to the trough. Here’s what the plot will look like with past data from the county CEO’s office (thank you Leann Whitaker).
Some cultural memories are long, as witnessed by the nearby photo of our latest war memorial somewhere up in Washington state. This was sent by an RR reader and Vietnam vet with whom I had the pleasure to serve in Germany. I believe that other states over the years have also established monuments of similar functionality to Tokyo Rose, Axis Sally, and, of course, our own Hanoi Jane.
