I am astonished at the growing pace of federal diktaats – they are now gushing out of Washington daily.  And ‘We the Sheeple’ raise neither hew nor cry.

California is on its collective butt fiscally and sinking deeper.  Its government is looking high and low for ways to bring its spending deficits under control.  Schwarzenegger has included some wage cuts for state health workers in the effort, but didn’t know that he was goring a federal holy cow.  The 8may09 LA Times reported –

Reporting from Sacramento — The Obama administration is threatening to rescind billions of dollars in federal stimulus money if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers do not restore wage cuts to unionized home healthcare workers approved in February as part of the budget. (more here) 

So get this, because these votes had been bought fair and square last November, it doesn’t matter what the Constitution (10th Amendment) says.  Obama will dictate California’s internal affairs simply because he can.  At least his supporters can say that he’s living up to his promise to go through with the payoff for those votes, no matter who or what law he has to trample in the process.

But the Community Organizer in Chief is not done with us yet.  Obama continues to enforce his vision for an America that is still foreign to a diminishing few of us.  His new budget specifically removes funding for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) that compensates states for incarcerating illegal aliens that is the feds’ responsibility to keep out of the country (more here).  Now this is one program that the good people of Ohio should want to chip in for because it affects the whole of these United States, and not just the border states.

And seeing Obama’s 2010 budget with its deep cuts in defense programs, Australia’s Prime Minister Rudd today is telling his country (here) that it must beef up its defense capabilities in southeast Asia because it’s clear that America is starting to pull out.  Even Rudd the Socialist is a bit shaken by what his American ally and fellow ideologue is doing.  I, Rudd, and everyone else expected that America would continue as the pillar of civilization in that part of the world by maintaining its “unipolar moment” of force projection over the last several decades. 

Meanwhile most of us on the local level are now busy chasing after as much of the latest package of stimulus funds as we can make a case for with a straight face.  What a great opportunity are these times for those seeking the fast track toward One World.

[update]  Cory Miller, American entrepreneur and businessman, wrote this letter to Obama on the eve of his election.  As one who has walked this walk, it choked me up a bit to read it.  The letter concludes with –

In short, Mr. Obama, your political philosophies represent everything that is wrong with our country. You represent the culture of government dependence instead of self reliance; Entitlement mentality instead of personal achievement; Penalization of the successful to reward the unmotivated; Political correctness instead of open mindedness and open debate. If you are successful, you may preside over the final transformation of America from being the greatest and most self-reliant culture on earth, to just another country of whiners and wimps, who sit around looking to the government to solve their problems. Like all of western Europe. All countries on the decline. All countries that, because of liberal socialistic mentalities, have a little less to offer mankind every year.

Given the road that we have been put on, I wonder what kind of letter he would write to our President today.  I just wanted to include this to show that some people still do something besides sitting on their ‘so busy with other things’ rear ends while muttering in their favorite adult beverage.  Does Obama or another one of the electeds need to hear your story?  Thanks to an RR reader in Nevada for this.
