    George,
That was 75 years ago, and we’re still here.
This is the kind of hyperbole that doesn’t do much for constructive community dialog.
How about if we go out just 15 years and ask: “Am I better off now than I was 15 years ago?”

I have a better idea, lets think about what we have to do to make sure we are better off 15 years from now, and take the necessary action. Learning from history should be one of things we think about.

Has the government done more to protect or attack our liberties since ’34?
Has the government planning or capitalism produced improvements to our standard of living since ’34?

After reading your comments, I have to ask if some of you noticed there’s something wrong with our economy? If not, then what’s all the Budget fuss about? And then there’s the bailout trend to nationalize certain industries and our money supply. Kind of reminds me of the pattern followed by early last century Socialists Russia and Germany depicted in the cartoon. The Encyclopedia Britt shows the steps required to accomplish the task. Revolutions sometimes take a little longer than fifty years. Beginning by gaining control of all means of education, including the media… climaxed by destroying the economy. Consequently, both socialist countries were ruled by their labor union parties…Russia’s Communist Party, and Germany’s Nazi Party. Sorry to poke holes in your reasoning, but thought you needed a little recent history refresher you seemed to have forgotten.
