In ‘A Fair and Just Tipping Point’ RR covered the issue of what happens when most of our citizens become wards of the state – i.e. wards of those who pay taxes. Now the cry rising from the successfully employed part of the nation is that the tipping point has already been passed, and that most eligible voters are already standing in line at the trough (29oct08 WSJ). Yesterday Joe Biden’s galloping gums let the cat further out of the bag by revealing a lower threshold in the Obama tax plan for those “patriots” whose job is to fill the trough. So the result is indeed that most of us will have representation without taxation, which begs the question – when would we ever want to stop being the walletsuckers of the “rich”?
Garrett Hardin, a friend of neither the right nor the left, answered that question in “The Tragedy of the Commons”.
