Barneyfrank_2You see, it’s the government’s money, they’re just letting us use some of it for a while. Barney Frank, House Financial Services Committee Chairman on a 20oct08 CNBC interview said –”I think at this point there needs to be a focus on an immediate increase in spending and I think this is a time when deficit fear has to take a second seat . . . I believe later on there should be tax increases. Speaking personally, I think there are a lot of very rich people out there whom we can tax at a point down the road and recover some of the money.” (video here) Note that when the money is earned by private individuals, the government needs to “recover” it so that it again resides with its rightful owner. The dictionary defines recover as “to get back or regain”. That should make it clear how most of Washington thinks about our assets.

From a correspondent – On Barack Obama’s website he has a tax calculator (HERE).  Interesting though that if the calculator results say “You will probably not get a tax cut under the Obama-Biden plan” you are not solicited to join the campaign…  BUT, if you are under the income limits (“not-rich”) and get a result of “Obama Tax Savings of $1,000” you are also solicited to join the cause… the non-rich are asked to “Stay Informed Get updates about the campaign and the issues that are affecting you and your family.”  Note the soothing music.

Profundities from the executive suite department – “Uncertainty by its nature is unpredictable”, Pfizer CEO Jeffrey Kindler on the PBS 21oct08 Nightly Business Report. Well, yes.

[update]  “The American Carol movie will start showing at Sierra Cinemas tommorow, October 24th.  Show times are 1:15pm and 6:30pm.  I know many of you have already gone to Roseville and Auburn to see it but I think it would be a good idea for us to all get together and go see the movie, especially since the Getzes have listened to our requests to bring the movie to town. … ”  This came from a correspondent today. Jo Ann and I will be in the audience to see this spoof of the liberal side; heaven knows, we are constantly bombarded with Hollywood’s version of the conservative experience and thought.  See trailer here.

    George,
Get local: In a few hours, you’ll read a report in The Union about how Sandy Sanderson’s development in Grass Valley is going to be auctioned off on the courthouse steps, pending a last minute deal.
It seems The Union has a lock on what’s really going on in our community, except for the “brain” you know what’s of bloggers et al.
A subscription to The Union is pretty cheap to learn what’s really going onn. Otherwise, you get what you pay for.
(You have three hours to scoop The Union on its scoop, but methings you and your friends at KCNO et al, doesn’t have the details. it’s no wonder The Union celebrates its 144th anniversary this month.

Thank you Jeff, and congratulations to the Union on its anniversary and many happy returns. And as a loyal Union subscriber and visitor to your website, I look forward to reading about your Sanderson development scoop. Keep up the good work.

That’s good. Thank you. But it’s hard to forget the insults you’ve hurled at “The Onion” and its hard-working staff in the past, often with half truths, innuendo and inaccuracies.

Barney Frank is talking about Keynesian deficit spending. It’s a question of forgoing revenue now in order to (theoretically) stimulate the economy and then “recovering” that revenue later. Even supply-siders speak this way. I’m not sure I understand your indignation about the word “recover” outside of a very, very generalized context of “taxes are bad.” Oh wait. I get it now…

Wade, the word “recover” means that socialists/looters like Frank believe the funds were always an asset of the state. Your tone indicates that you agree with this concept. I believe the only thing the “state” owns is the responsibility to protect us from our enemies and enforce the basic laws needed to support capitalism. Frank and Pelosi and BO are trying their damnedest to start class warfare. No one would have to listen to this gang of thieves except that they have all the guns. It is hard to believe that the USA could get anymore socialist, but, most citizens (voters) are educated in a failed (socialist) US education system. Oh ya, taxes are bad (especially when they are used to strip liberties and promote class warfare).

    Mike –
My point is that if it’s “tax revenue,” I think it’s fairly non-controversial to assert that it belongs to the state. That’s kind of, you know, a given with taxes — the state takes them. I’m not sure why Barney Frank, when discussing future vs. present tax revenues is so crazy to speak as if these are in fact state monies…
