Sarahpalin The Democrats’ first attack on John McCain’s veep choice was that she didn’t have enough foreign affairs experience.  For some odd reason I thought that bringing that up would be the last thing Obama would want to do – sort of like the kettle calling the pot black.  Oh well, the silly season is in full swing.

I was surprised like the rest of us by the pick and still don’t know the lady very well.  But hell, as a fellow NRA member and basketball player, she can’t be all bad.  And as a no-nonsense, corruption fighting, give-me-your-best-shot politician – who’s as far away from Washington as you can get and not have to learn Russian – she will be great.  Obama’s got himself a well-worn beltway insider to help “fix” Washington – a guy who spent the last thirty-plus years breaking it.  Go figger.

Musings from a couple of correspondents in this election season are worth repeating.

“My wife and I are thrilled about McCain’s choice for VP.  Our overwhelming belief is that she is as American as baseball (baseball before steroids) and apple pie.  She strikes us both as an unpolluted leader; she appears to hold values and ideals that have not been tainted by a life in politics.  She has fought corruption which we all know is rampant in the lives of today’s “leaders”, she backs the constitution, has deep experience dealing with energy, and most importantly to us appears to be the most grounded Christian of the bunch. I was planning on writing in Ron Paul or Mickey Mouse (like I did 4 years ago) until today’s nomination invigorated me.   Only in America. God Bless America.”

Hillary “Have you ever noticed how Hillary, after being introduced, and while acknowledging applause, always acts pleasantly surprised to see someone she recognizes in the first few rows?

Well, I think it’s fake! It’s a stage affectation to help her look animated. How many friends in the front rows can you be surprised to see? And she does it all the time.
Perhaps other speakers do it too. I’ve just noticed her.

On the other hand perhaps she’s especially acknowledging Mr/Mrs/Ms GottBucks (who else can afford first few rows?) who are flattered by the special recognition. Sort of like the stripper winking at the bald guy at the burlesque show.”

And finally, Jo Ann and I picked up a little black kitty from the Animal Shelter this afternoon to give Leo, our old black cat, some social life and prepare for the advent of our new puppy sometime soon.  Driving home, we puzzled over what to name her.  Finally it hit us that it should be something relevant to this time in history.  Please welcome little Sarah.

    George,
Enjoyed all your blogs this week, especially today’s. Give Sarah a cuddle for us. She is a pretty little one. Lots of purring, and warm curled up kitten.

This is my first comment to a blog ever. I just needed to share my excitement. I have never been so proud of my country. I just watched Gov Sarah on CNBC with my husband. She is so smart. With the exception of her ability to speak so well, she is a normal American, not a politician. From what I have seen already Gov. Sarah is a role model (where Michele and Hillary were not) that I will encourage my daughters to mimic.

I went from a reluctant voter to a voter that would post a sign in my front yard in favor of Sarah! Not sense Ron Paul threw his hat in the ring have I been so excited. BTW, we recently returned from a dinner party. The nominee of Sarah was the Buzz. The nominee was described as “a brilliant choice”, “impressive”, “the difference”, “smokin’ hot.” Having heard her speak again tonight, holy cow, she is the straw that broke BO’s back! I literally got goose bumps reading your post this evening, well done George.
The Mcd’s gladly welcome both Sarah and Sarah into our life.

Let the record show: It was Sarah Palin (thank you John McCain) that brought hope and change into our house.

Ellen and I have been talking about Sarah Palin’s new role in life most of the day, checking blogs and observing videos, some of which were recorded before Sarah Palin’s selection as GOP VP. She comes across as one smart lady, who has here head screwed, is tough and very conservative. Check out the People interview with Sarah/Todd/John/Cindy. I fell out of my chair when Todd answered this question:
PEOPLE: Mr. Palin, what does Sen. McCain need to know about working with your wife?
TODD PALIN: She’s a hard worker and she’s not wired normal. (Laughter), and then this
SARAH PALIN: Morning person. Yup. We don’t sleep much. Too much to do. What I’ve had to do, though, is in the middle of the night, put down the BlackBerries and pick up the breast pump. Do a couple of things different and still get it all done. More than one Blackberry! She is not wired normal! But, she is as American as apple pie, as is the favorite food at the Palin household. “Our favorite is moose hot dogs, caribou hot dogs. We get caribou, get ’em ground up and put them into hot dogs. They’re Polish, said Todd in People. Todd gave up a hunting trip this weekend to be Mr Dad, while Sara campaigns with McCain. I could never vote for McCain, but I could vote for McCain/Palin.

The stakes are high. BO has promised change (with no specifics) and may puppeteer a socialist house/senate too. A great warning in the WSJ of what this “team” will mean for us liberty lovin’ taxpayers:
“… a united president and Congress can, as a practical matter, do all or any of the following (plus much more): take your money and give it to someone else; tell businesses what to produce and sell, who to hire and what wages to pay; set all commodity, wholesale and retail prices; control all energy supplies, communication networks and financial markets; replace all private health-care with a government system; prescribe the curriculum for all schools; determine which students get a slot in elite universities; diminish political and other speech; and enroll all citizens above the age of 17 either in the military or in civilian corps for periodic instruction and service. Children could be required to spend the summer in government “youth” camps.”
